In many games enemies have predictable patterns that you are expected to recognize and respond accordingly to win. Usually, once you've gotten the hang of it you can start pulling off flawless victories against them barring a mistake or two. However, if you're like me, sometimes you'll encounter enemies where you know exactly what they're going to do and you still can't seem to respond in the right way.

Case in point: fucking Primal Aspids from Hollow Knight.

latest

Their pattern is simple. They shoot a spreadshot directly at you (one bullet towards you and two at a diagonal) every once and a while. I know that if I jump right away I'll get hit by the diagonal, but I do it without fail every time. It gets worse when there are multiple of them on screen! If you made one of these things a boss with the exact same moveset and just more HP and damage I'd probably be doomed.

Which enemies are the bane of your existence?

Blood-Starved Beast in Bloodborne took me exactly two weeks to beat, I know because my cousins came to visit and I got to the beast their first day and beat it their last day staying with me. I was cocky because I beat the second boss on my first try. The guy who turns into a werewolf-like creature in a graveyard - since I got the parry mechanic down almost instantly, but I skipped Vicar Amelia so this guy was my third boss... He beat my ass. I will never replay Bloodborne from the beginning because I am terriffied of this guy. I grinded smaller guys just to beat him. Every day I would sit and say "I am feeling it, today is the day"... then nope, nothing.

Such bullshit as it's the final boss (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga). I've gotten past this point maybe once, but if I die in the next phase, then this is basically the biggest hurdle

Like, I know what to do, but those fucks always piss me off and I'm always on edge fighting them, especially in cramped rooms.

Vermintide 2, every enemy has a predictable attack patten but they throw so many of them at you that you will constantly take hits that you anticipated simply because of the sheer number of them at any given moment (speaking about the end game difficultly setting)

Smelter Demon...Dark Souls 2.

I am actually really good at these games, and usually don't have any problem with the bosses...but it was something about the hesitation with his attacks that I could never get down. I was just so twitchy with my dodges and I would get hit. What a frustrating boss....and then you have to fight a blue version of him in the dlc...with no good checkpoint before the fight...ugh..

Beat Dark Souls twice and these bastards always give me more trouble than bosses.

I do not remember this area giving me significant trouble. Then I played Remastered. Breezed through Blighttown.

Anor Londo archers no problem. This shit nearly made me throw my controller through the TV. The Catacombs and Giant's Tomb for some reason were incredibly frustrating this time.

EDIT: Yeah Winter Lanterns too. I could probably play Bloodborne blindfolded at this point but fuck those guys.

Motherfucking frogs in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. Even 1-on-1 they manage to get at least one hit on me every time.

They're basically just the Bloodstained equivalent to Fleamen in Castlevania games, but they are the most recent example that comes to mind.

The bloodborne shark ogre things in the dlc.

The clams in dark souls if there is more than 1 of them at once.

Did you never parry this guy? He turned into a joke once i realized you could parry nearly all of his moves

Certainly a step down in difficulty from what's being discussed here, but it's fresh on my mind since I just beat Horizon ZD last night: rockbreakers are really obnoxious. Even when you think you're dodging at the right time they'll come up underneath you. And disabling their ability to burrow is hard due to the difficulty of targeting their arms.

I found this boss easy to beat. All you need to do is to roll INTO its attacks and it'd never get you, even on the second stage.

Dark Souls 2 - Heide Knights. Let's give a fast enemy the ability to stop any attack you might want to make, weird timing on attacks to make them unpredictable, and then make them almost impossible to stagger. Oh, and make them turn 180 degrees in the middle of an attack if the player tries to circle strafe. Sounds great.

A god damn blemish on an otherwise nearly perfect bestiary of enemies. They're bootleg Jackals from Halo, except 1000x worse with auto-shotguns and they pretty much instakill you. These guys are legit like the only enemies I used the chainsaw on, because I felt like I had to. Their shields just aren't fun to fight against, and they recharge stupidly fast. Halo Jackals at least felt clear in how you were supposed to fight them, but these fuckers just feel like bullet sponges with limited options around them.

Boss in Lost Izalith (hope I spelled it right) , till this day messes with me.
Armored Spider Demons Souls, I end up cheesing it with range attacks.
Omega, in Megaman Zero (extreme difficulty).
Last but not least, I could never repost Gwyn, try as I may, I can't :(

Martyr Logarus - Bloodborne

It took me so long to defeat him. More than any other thing in Bloodborne and it's DLC.

Nightmares from God of War.

They're weak, but goddamn they're a nuisance to kill.
Yeah, they're pretty annoying in the first few hours when Atreus doesn't help much and you don't deal too much damage, especially when they take control of an enemy, rendering them invincible until you beat the Nightmare out of them. They becomes harmless later, but fucking hell did I hate them during the early game.

Also from God of War:
Valkyries
I like that they have a varied moveset, but fucking hell, some of them are easier to handle than others. For a few of them, it took me several tries for me to become fairly comfortable with their patterns and figure a strategy out, they're very fun to fight when you start understanding their patterns though and see improvements in every new attempt.

Whatever my opponent does in rocket league. If I go left they juke right, etc.

But for real, I'ma say Dancer of the borreal valley. The difficulty really came to life in my sl1 run. Tough boss!
