my advice re: dust in camera. Give it a month for stock and manufacturing to normalize a bit. I've seen several reports of dust in the camera and if it's a launch thing the last thing you wanna do is go through several units trying to get a perfect one. You may have better luck after things have calmed down a little.

For what it's worth I have a tiny spec of dust in both my front and back camera and I'm gonna just live with it because I'm paranoid about other potential issues with replacements.

that said, you're absolutely right that it's an $1100 phone and it's totally your right to swap it until you're happy
Yeah, been browsing Reddit and MacRumors all night and it seems like this is a pretty common problem. Definitely don't have the time to go through a phone lottery trying to get the perfect phone right now.

I need some help.

I received my phone from Swappa today, and it works great. The only problem is when I go online to check warranty status and buy AppleCare, it says my phone isn't activated. I've made some calls on it already, and they've been great. What do I have to do to activate the phone? I'm on T-Mobile, by the way.

Activated in this instance likely means within Apple's system, not in a cell network.

Any chance it's a stolen phone?

In regards to the attention-aware automatic dimming, does the phone automatically increase brightness when attention is resumed (without touching the display)?

Any way you can post the exact message the website gives you?
Sure thing.

So, I got my third iPhone X today. This is gonna be the one you guys. The screen is noticeably better than the last one.

Not for me.

I don't find the attention awareness to work that great in general tbh

Same here, the volume lowering portion of that feature was especially bad for me. It would play my alarms at full blast volume for 1-2 seconds and then lower the volume to like 50%. Like what's even the point of that? (I assume it's supposed to lower the volume before the alarm/alert fires off, but it never worked right for me).

I disabled the feature.

Cross posting from the better thread:

Flossy is the best reviewer. I'm watching his iPhone X review and it's legit. Absolutely terrible video production. It's just him talking with a phone on the table. Shot doesn't change for ten minutes at all but it's so entertaining. Dude doesn't know the difference between an audio only podcast and a video review but I don't care.

I knew iPhone Plus users who actually thought the iPhone X would be a big screen replacement would be disappointed. I prefer the smaller use size. I just hope they don't downgrade features like they did with the previous models.

He called the notch the LeBron hairline haha. He prefers Android phones. Don't blame him. And yes, when you can get the Essential for $150, the iPhone X price is too gatdamn high.

Hmm, will check it out.

As a plus user the X is smaller than I expected, but not a bad compromise. There is part of it that feels like an awkward middle child. But its dang nice.

the amount of notification badges he has is giving me anxiety.

Ever since I upgraded to my iPhone X my podcasts aren't automatically syncing up with my windows desktop (as in, it remembers the timestamp I was last at in my podcasts without me having to connect the phone). Anyone know how to fix this?

I miss the size of my Plus but I agree the X is a great compromise it's basically the size of the plus screen give or take so it's not a sacrifice to me. Having a hard time going back to my iPad Pro TBH I've gotten so used to no home button now. I kinda can't wait for Apple to release an iPad without a home button.

I also just wanted to endorse this case one last time.

https://www.hardgraft.com/products/grainy-iphonex

It feels amazing in the hand. Today after having my phone in my bag all day and reached in and the sensation really caught me off guard. I know its just textured plastic, but its the nicest textured plastic I've ever felt. It almost feels fuzzy.

Looks very open at the top/bottom. While nice to show off the metal band, does it wrap around enough that a basic drop on either end would be protected?

What case are you using?

Unlike my 6s which I was happy to cover up, this feels wrong to keep wrapped up. For now I have the caudabe lucid clear and orzly screen protector. Still not ideal but at least keeps most of the phone visible
For now, Apple leather case saddle brown. I'm so happy with it, maybe that's one of the reasons. To which I'll join an Apple silicone case white to mix things up.

I held an X for the first time last night. I like the screen size - or can at least put up with it - but I'll happily buy an X Plus if they release one.

Pretty decent and blunt review. Will check a few more after this one finishes.

Whats the battery life looking like? Coming from big phones, the battery is the smaller battery is gonna be a big issue for me.

I get about 4 hours SOT and 14-15 hours total on my Note.

Because I promised to follow up:

Here's my battery for the day. Do note that iOS doesn't record battery usage the same. There is no screen on time. There's standby and usage. Standby is how long it's been since it last was at 100% in total, usage is when the phone was doing something even if the screen was off (like playing music). For example when you're using the phone both the usage and standby will tick up by one minute, when you're not only the standby will tick up.

My final stats for today:

20% remaining
Usage: 11h35m
Standby: 16h14m

I was studying a lot today so a lot of music playing. Top apps are misleading since it's from the last 24 hours not from the last full charge like the battery stats are, but they're Safari, Twitterrific, Automatic (all background tracking), Home and Lock screen, and Music (3 hours playing in the background and only 5% battery impact for the last 24 hours)

My iPhone with Caudabe Lucid Clear fell out of a shallow pocket, about 2 feet off the ground onto tile. Not sure what hit first but it landed on its back. Case cracked open on the top corner. iPhone was undamaged thankfully, but man that's weak. "Bulletproof glass material" my ass

Still loving this phone!

Just noticed one thing though - the "fly-in animation" of the springboard apps after unlocking stutters. I think that wasn't the case during my first days with the phone. With the available hardware power (a11 + 3GB RAM) this shouldn't be the case?

My hope rests on iOS 11.2.

Greetings

That was happening on my 7 as well ever since 11 came out. 11 just seems to have some performance issues right now, I've seen animation stuttering in several places.

I have the same case and there's zero chance this thing saves the phone from more than one drop.

As slim and nice looking at it is - it looks and feels more like it is made out of the same stuff model airplane kit cockpits are - brittle clear plastic.

While I don't mind the case sacrificing itself if that absorbs some force and protects the phone, the Caudabe is too expensive to do that often

I love the reachability action. Extremely easy to do, and less likely to perform accidentally than the touch id double tap.

Another improvement in the same vein is how you don't accidentally go into the home screen anymore when you just want to check your time and/or notifications. Tap to wake is a very good QoL improvement. Always had to reach around and hit the sleep button (or lift it) if I didn't want to unlock and enter the phone.

Although, I'd love if it gave me the option unlock the phone and stay on the lockscreen, when face id fails.

man reviews are overwhelmingly positive. i honestly wasnt expecting this. they all cant be fanboys and paidshills right lol

i feel like pulling the trigger. currently using S8+. was hoping to jump on Pixel Xl2 but with all the issue, i think I will pass.

how does iOS hold up on old hardwares? lets say 2-3 years down the road? how is iOS 11 running on 6 and 6+?

I have iOS11 on my 6+ and it works perfectly fine, same as iOS10. And iOS runs really good on older phones in general. I was still using the 5 when the 7 came out since it still ran fine. Mostly the reason I use iPhones, I can depend on them for a long time.
