Lots of people playing this on my friends list, but I don't have the Carlos Fandango version, so I'll have to wait till Friday like a peasant.

I could not get any speed in races even during the beta kept getting last place and I just changed the controls THROTTLE LINEARITY moving it all the way to the left T deadzone left T clamping left
and now it was easy to keep up with all the cars and win

I feel so much better now that I can win

Do yourself a favour and turn the driving assistances down. It's pretty well hidden (select car ->performance-> pro settings) but it really makes the driving feel MUCH better.

Yeah, I am not sure why they hid it away, they are global too, so once you've set it, it's done for everything.

Really makes a big difference to the driving.

what exactly do you turn down and how far? Traction Control? ABS? ESP? SLIDE HELP?
everything all the way to the left?

Man I am so interested to see how this game reviews. The beta was really disappointing to me and destroyed most of my enthusiasm for the final game. The handling, the lack of proper online features, the awful performance on O.G. PS4. I'm guessing 65 Metascore.

I havent read any previews from publications that gave it anything other than a big thumbs up. The only people pissing on the game are forumites, and mostly jaded ones at that.

The first one didn't review well, 61 on metacritic, so I don't imagine this one doing much better.

I think most people like to forget just how bad the crew was at launch, 2 is leaps and bounds ahead of that, and I think it's better than 1 in it's current iteration.

The game clearly isn't "finished" (are GaaS ones ever?) but considering just how much of an improvement they made on the first one with patches, I am sure this one will get the same treatment.

Come on, man. It's OK to like this game without just shitting on people with different opinions. It just makes you look like a blind fanboy.

There are a LOT of valid reasons to dislike this game. If you're enjoying it, good for you.

Lol, typical era bullshit. I dont even own the game yet. Im just pointing out most previews are really positive. I mean you say you hated the first game and yet are posting in the OT for the second lol.

This is one of those games where I don't really care what reviewers say at all. I had tons of fun with the first game which felt like it was completely shat on. Not saying the game was great but there was a lot of good that most critics simply overlooked because of the bad.

At least with this sequel pretty much everything has improved by a huge margin and that's good enough for me and I'm sure everyone else who enjoyed the first. Reviewers can focus on the bad all they want, the game is fun as hell regardless of its faults.

I think so, I know quite a few didn't.

I just think back to how bad the crew 1 was at launch................
Yeah Crew 1 was so bad I dropped it fast
I really disliked the original and this is definitely an improvement but still very rough.
Same here didn't like the first one. But I slight improvement won't sell me the game
After all the updates the first is imho better than the second...
Maybe the second after the updates will get better?

The PC version does not. :( Don't know about console.

Nice!
Thx

So glad to hear that

Actually, I am not a hundred percent sure. I fired up the game once in the early morning hours - I think there was a HDR configuration screen at the start.

I'll get home in four hours and reconfirm.

Sorry if I jumped the gun with the confirmation.

in which ways is it "improved by a huge margin"? i don´t know what people mean with this statement when:

Game looks badder than the first, object detail in the world is lower, headlights barely usable at night in the countryside, cars and collisions feel like plastic, wallgrinding (just ram into a curve and slide along) is better than steering, GPS overhead guiding line is missing, white map with blue line is not good for pathfinding, pop in/draw in very noticable, physics are like a PS2 game, cities missing iconic buildings that were in the first, cops not in the game, pvp lobbies delayed to december(!), first person view on motorbikes has you strangely looking down at the road instead of whats ahead, player models looking outdated

here, a video comparison about the graphics from the beta:

there are so many things that are just baffling about this game...have you guys played The Crew 1 in its current state or one time for 15minutes when it released back then? The game is tremendously better nowadays than it was...

"good enough for me" is not objective, that is more like "yeah i am easily satisfied, so whatever"

even NFS 2015 and Payback have better driving feel than this game here.

is there anything improved from the beta or is it the same game? because when it is the same, it´s not a better game than the first TC

Got the gold edition for PS4 on a price error way back when but I haven't updated my payment yet for it to be sent. Still debating on it. Don't know if I want it or not - even with a price error.

Wasn't there an article somewhere comparing The Crew 2 to "Mario Kart in the real world"? Is that comparison true? I never played the first one.

Yeah, I am surprised how much fun I had with the boats, I was expecting to like the planes more.

Looking forward to Friday.

Is this what they call concern trolling?, you've posted the same things multiple times in this, and the beta thread, and I am at a bit of a lose as to why, considering you've stated your distain for the game, you are still posting about it.

Ignore button is your friend ;). Dude has, I guarantee you, spent more time bitching about the game here than he has playing it.

So I've never played the first game, but am always looking for new racing games. Can someone tell me what the appeal of this game is? I love sim games like Assetto Corsa and Project Cars, but love arcade racers like Forza Horizon 3, NFS, Burnout, etc etc.

At it's core, it's a looter, if you like grinding for parts, you'll like it.

It's a driving game secondly.

Game looks gorgeous and drives nicely as well.

Strong praise from someone who does a lot of sim racing.

  1. Arcade racing, earn and spend boost.
  2. Blur-like follower/fan collecting.
  3. Huge landmass to explore and drive.
  4. Multiple different racing disciplines. All kinds of four wheel vehicles, bikes, planes, boats. There's even a hovercraft hidden somewhere, maybe more crazy stuff.
  5. RPG-like system with loot drops and car upgrading.

I have been playing the game for a while now for review and this game on the surface does a couple of things better than the first game but it's a big downgrade in almost every other area.

The open world for example is the exact same except it's missing many areas from the original while also not expanding its scope in anyway.

The open world is also severely lacking in things to do.

I went on a cross travel trip in coop in the Crew and in one trip you would encounter many challenges, slalom events and other things of that nature. In one trip you could level a car and find good loot by simply driving and having a good time.

In the new game I went cross country twice and only encountered one human player and never had a single event occur while on the road.

That combined with no police presence can make the entire open world feel extremely hollow and devoid of anything to do or see. Test Drive Unlimited, Any Forza Horizon and even the first Crew all have much more going on in the open world to help fill it out.

The other biggest downgrade is the car unlock system. Go to the Nissan category for example. You have about 20 something vehicles but only 3 or 4 models. Like the Nissan 370Z. You can buy the street racing version. Or the drift version, or the touring car version. They count the same model but with a different discipline as a different car all together.

Unlike the first game, or any driving game for that matter you can't buy the base car and tune it for the different racing styles. The street racing 370Z, will always be a street racer. You can never tune or customize the car to adapt to the different styles which robs the game of any kind of depth or attachment to investing and leveling the cars.

The planes and boats don't make up for the lack of any variety. All of their events and controls are paper thin and feel like they were brought over from other Ubisoft open world games just to add a gimmick.

It's not all bad however. The disciplines, especially motocross have surprisingly good physics to them. Better than most standalone motocross games as of late. That's about it for a silver lining however.

I am with you guys, I really wanted to love this game especially after seeing how much better the first game got post updates. This game feels like a huge letdown compared to where the Crew left off. And if I even try to compare it to Forza Horizon then it really drops the ball in every way.

I'm hoping Ubi works it's magic and somewhere down the road it gets better. I just think to launch in a much worse state than where they left off is not a good look for them.

I wonder if that's because the amount of events unlocked are tied to your fan level?

Yes you do get more events as you hit the higher levels. Most of them though are off to the side and have to be initiated. Instead I think they tried to replace them with a personal highlight system from a game like Burnout Paradise. In theory if you had lots and lots of friends playing and setting records the world might have more things to do. However that seems unlikely based on how limited the online functionality is this time compared to the first.
