I think the combat was clunky earlier because it had me focus on an enemy. But without focusing, it's pretty much standard AC combat, however you want to take that.
The cutscenes are a bit rough though. I'm running it on a PS4 Pro for context. Otherwise, pretty good so far. I've only done side missions, so I haven't progressed much.

Happy accident, the intent was to keep the purple logo, but when we tried the gold, we knew we had to keep the National Geographic vibe strong.
On foot, you're always running unless you nudge analog.
The mount thing bothered me forever until I got a faster horse.

I swear this has been a big issue for Ubi games. Had to get rid of my PS4 Division because of it. Wildlands on XB1 was also bad for me. I think it was present in Watch Dogs 2 too but it wasn't quite as bad.
Cool. I did that and then I found out I needed other things as well, haha. Time to go find it all!
Seriously, it's bad. During the opening fight tutorial it's very noticeable as well. Hmmm....

You get used to it. It was super weird at first especially since I had just come off of replaying Syndicate, but it feels more natural.
Looking forward to impressions. Going to be a long weekend followed by a long week so no point in hoping in for me....yet.

lmao love how the ERA logo looks like the National Geographic logo. I don't know if i should wait to play fresh on my X or start playing tomorrow when amazon gets my copy...HELP ME ERA! (also if someone could tell me how fair the harder difficulties feel thanks)
This is my biggest problem. There is no database of locations and people at all. And Origins has some really big ones. Not as much as Syndicate and Paris overall, but some fairly major ones.
That really sucks. 75% of my enjoyment of AC games comes from exploring and reading the history of the locations.
Of all the AC games, they decide to ditch it for the Egyptian one? The most fascinating era they have covered to date?
I seriously may not have bought this if I knew it was removed. There hasn't been a single AC game that hasn't had an encyclopedia.
It feels so different from past ACs that I actually died fairly quickly. :| It's also just as gorgeous as I'd hope. G

The trick here is making sure the enemy composition isn't bad.
One shield dude, no problem. Three folks without shields, rock. Once you get into other comps (1 Shield, 2 Melee, 2 Archers) (2 Shield, 2 Archers on horseback), you need to start using space to either run or split them up.
The skills I found to be most useful, as one who mainly liked the stealth approach:
Hunter
1. Assassination Loot [Don't have to take your time looting a corpse after stealth killing someone. Useful when there are many enemies around.]
2. Chain Assassination [Good to dispatch of a close range enemy stealthily, and a longer range one afterwards when they're nearby.]
Warrior
1. Regeneration [Get this one asap. I wanted to min-max as a stealth dude, but this game forces you to go in direct confrontations quite a bit, so I was dying a lot in them before I got this upgrade, which changed everything.]
Seer
1. Smoke Screen [Also ignored to get this one for too long. When you're in trouble in combat, this makes it an easy process to evade and regenerate your health before going back in.]
2. Dawn & Dusk [Instead of waiting around for the time of day to naturally change, this just makes it a single button press. QoL upgrade.]
3. Sleep Darts [Extremely effective. Kinda OP. Long range, immediately effective.]
Do not believe in Poison Darts. They suck, especially when the enemy is near your level.

Played about half an hour of it. Really liking it gameplay wise, but there are some weird issues.
Dialogue outside of cutscenes is super muddled, and it seems like all of the sound from the villagers and enemies are slowed way down or something. I have no idea what's going on.
EDIT: Just checked the AC subreddit and it seems to be an issue for others too.
