Honestly, I think you're 5+ year qualifier is a little too strict, especially when we're talking about 3-4 year dev cycles nowadays.

That means if a dev leaves a franchise, develops a new IP entry and then starts and is two years into development of the old franchise, you'd consider it dead if we knew not what they were doing.

Yeah, I think your 5 year cut off should actually be extended, otherwise we're just lumping in "franchises we haven't seen in a while" with "franchises that have very low chances of making a return".

Yeah i Will make +7 years, i Will edit

The Neverhood. It had 2 releases (The Neverhood on PC and Skullmonkeys on PS1). I don't think we will ever get another game in the series. They released Armikrog but it isn't part of the same universe, and is just a successor.

Wait, Golden Axe should only be in the "Decade" category. Not even that, if we count the slot machine.

Since 3, there was a PS2 remake, a fighting game on Saturn & in arcades, & most recently a 2007 God of War clone starring Tyris, notable for having Gilius Thunderhead (The Dwarf) swear like a sailor.

... I mean, it's all trash, but Golden Axe isn't as dead as it seems. Besides, SEGA put Golden Axe pages in their new coloring book! So maybe more content is incoming?

criminal. such an easy win for nintendo to pop some new levels on switch and include a level creator. lolo still has placement in smash brothers right? this one is a timeless puzzler like tetris, and should never be discarded.

It is criminal. For next release, I wouldn't mind original NES Adventures of Lolo 3 graphics as long as they make some minor QOL-changes (water currents, able to tell which hearts give shots, how many hearts needed for power ups etc) and level editor. It was absolutely fantastic series left to die for no good reason. Shame on you, HAL and Nintendo.

Lolo is by far Nintendo's 2nd best puzzler behind Puzzle League. I won't touch Boxboy, but I'd pick up a new Lolo in a second

I'm not sure about Unreal. If we count the Tournament spin-off series then clearly it is not dead as a new game is in development. If we only count only the mainline series then the series died back in 2003.

Still waiting for 4th Birthday. Say what you want, I enjoyed 3rd birthday just as much as the original and more than 2.

But more so when is the next golden sun! Seriously ending dark dawn on a cliffhanger then nothing. Still bitter all these years later

Boxboy felt like one of those free flash games you find all over the net (though it did have some nice ideas). Wish they could have gone with a new Lolo instead.

Shouldn't Klonoa last game be the Wii Remake? I mean, it's clearly not a port/remaster and it's actually a pretty good game!

Well too soon to call it dead since Zip Lash came out last year along an amiibo. I imagine it sold horribly but I have an hunch they're gonna try one more time on Switch with classic gameplay before killing it off

I really hope so. I think a return to the original form of the game could do really well on Switch.

Pouring one out for Blitz: The League right here.

The prototype for modern story-driven single-player modes in sports games deserved far better than it got.

Name any SNK fighting games that are not KOF. Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, The Last Blade, Samurai Shodown. The last one got resurgence on Xbox 360, but left forgotten again after lukewarm reception. At least some are being ported to consoles these days.

Am I the only one who doesnt think an IP has to continue on forever? I feel like some series are best left the way they were and we can go back and enjoy them as they were instead of beating the series into the ground and turning it into something we no longer love.

I mean I loved Waverace but I'd call Nintendo crazy if they decided to make a new one now.
