I am fairly certain that the same people spouted this bullshit two years ago, four years ago, and ten years ago. And yet nothing has happened. It would require an event of stupendous magnitude to spark any kind of a real conflict, and that's just not likely to happen.

Trump is not getting elected as president.
We are not baning Muslim countries.
We won't create a comercial war that tanks the world's economy.
We are not creating concentration camps.

Man, all those impossible scenarios look silly right?
Maybe not an armed Civil War like the last one, but conflict is coming.

You coming in with scenarios I never commented on doesn't stop you from looking like a hysteric. Please don't bother if you're going to be disingenuous up front.

LOL at anyone who actually believes this nonsense. When King tweets shit like that, it's just his way of signaling to the idiots who worship his party to act out.

I mean...in the 60s and 70s violent crime was at an all-time high, politically-motivated bombings and plane high-jackings were happening, the country was ripping itself apart over the Civil Rights movement, politicians and political activists were being assassinated left and right, the President resigned due to corruption, and Russia was trying to spark a race war in the US.

If all of that didn't cause this country to engage in an actual second Civil War - it ain't happening now. Partisanship will certainly get worse, especially as we inch closer to midterms and especially the 2020 election. Things will definitely get uglier, but at some point (no idea when), I think the country in general will tire of it. This is not our first rodeo.

It's outrageous in the short term but I don't think it's super crazy to see some parallels between now and say the 1830s. We could be heading down that path but it's decades away if at all.

Was going to bring up the bombings. If the MOVE bombing didn't jump start a war, I doubt we'll see one now.

I guarantee a good majority of those that think another civil war is brewing are right wing lunatics that are afraid of everything not white. They are likely also hoarding guns.

I'd say things are going to get worse before they get better. But the idea of a full-blown civil war just seems cartoonishly out-of-touch.

This. Plus the heavily armed side is in power. Not that we'd have a civil war even if they weren't, but it makes even less sense when it's the left that's understandably outraged now (myself included) and a huge percentage of us (myself included) don't like or own guns.

Things will keep being divisive and it will only get worse in that sense as the population continues its shift toward whites being a minority by the 2040s, but there's not going to be a civil war. The country survived Nixon, 12 years of Reagan/Bush, 8 years of Dubya, etc. This is worse, but things will swing back around.

Speaks to the level of education, but maybe I'm wrong but for this to happen I imagine a strong prerequisite would be the economy tanking so hard that hunger is hitting the lower income classes. Despite it all it seems pretty clear that social unrest is still far from hitting levels where this is even a remotely realistic scenario.

Uh no he can't. You are vastly overestimating the power the GOP currently has. You would have to amend the constitution for that to happen. The GOP has the upper hand right now but not by THAT much.

2/3 in both the House and Senate to be exact. So you would need Democratic votes which he absolutely would not get.

If there is a civil war, the sides seem as crystal clear as the last one in America. The good versus the bad. Last time the good one. Hopefully that happens again.

Civil War? There doesn't even seem to be much public protest to all the disgusting things going on in America right now...

liberals have been getting assassinated and murdered in broad daylight for years. Nothing will happen until leftists start bombing ICE and Police and Political offices.

If your votes arent heard or are ignored then you have to find someway to speak.

Pure fantasy.

People in this country, generally speaking, are too comfortable for such a thing.

I do anticipate pockets of violence after the 2020 election though (along with MANY very sternly worded Facebook posts) no matter who wins.

The Civil War never ended, it went cold. It's too bad we can't go back with what we learned about denazification and apply it to the Southern states during reconstruction.

I think we'll see the 60's part II. It's going to be very very messy, but it won't quite be a civil war. Mass protests, violence, assassinations are all gauranteed though.

I think talk of civil war is still rather Chicken Little at this stage.

Your politics is getting kinda scary though. For the longest time it was pretty damn funny watching you lot argue over your firearm fetish and whether or not it's a good idea to give medical treatment to sick people, but now it's getting worrying.

Listening to American conservatives and liberals is like listening to people from two different countries. One country is desperately holding the line against hordes of savage Mexican children and has recently scored a great victory against a secret cabal of pizza-eating pedophiles who are going to get arrested any day now. The other country is in the grip of a Nazi regime illegitimately planted by Russian spies intent on conducting an ethnic cleansing campaign. You guys don't seem to be talking to each other. You're not even arguing with each other. You're both separately brewing your own respective brands of crazy.

I swear an actual civil war could break out and there would still be people on Era saying "Come on guys stop overreacting! It's embarrassing! Staaaaaahp."

How dismissive some of you people are over very real issues and problems is fucking ridiculous.

There is too much to lose tbh too many people are just too comfortable.
this is what I think too, there's too many people that just can't be bothered to deviate too far from their day to day monotony for a full on civil war to break out. most people really do just want to go to work and live their lives and spend time with their families and such, they aren't super invested in stuff like a potential civil war between the left and right.

People live boring and miserable lives, and anonymity on the internet makes them feel empowered to say things to scare other people or bring them down to their level.

Get off the internet and go live your goddamn life.

This is a right-wing fantasy. Even in Canada, where the tension is not nearly as high, right-wingers constantly pretend that we're on a brink of civil war because some refugees are crossing the border and trans people can't be discriminated against anymore. Their bubble makes them believe that their hatred and rage is shared by the "silent majority" who's just about to revolt.

That's the vast majority of those who believe it's coming. Because that's what their right-wing media sources have told them to believe. And it will result in many more instances of them acting out violently in the face of civil protest just as they did in Charlottesville.

While horrific, it wasn't unconstitutional, and it was rapidly spoken out against and is in the process of stopping.
Is it now? Could have fooled me. Please present evidence of this being in the process of stopping.
