How dare you compare Master Roshi to Mineta.

They both suck, but at least one pulls/pulled their weight once upon a time... I guess

But that same person also attempted sexual assault, as well as a bunch of other crap, so....

Its just really hard for me not to find that level of patheticness and desperation amusing on some level.

But yeah, they're also kind of super creeps.

No "kind of", they are lol

Clannad 1

Because 200,000 400,000 MAL users can't be wrong.

Special effects and sound design can go a long way. To me, a standout quality of Key works have always been the music and its use. Many tracks seem crafted to portray a fleeting and fragile feeling with faint hope. The character designs, however, are gaudy but I hope I can come around to appreciate their merits (they're pretty jarring). I've actually seen Clannad before and a bit of After Story, but it was long ago and I don't remember much, besides the key details to some arcs. I found Youhei funny when I was younger, but I could do without his antics this time around. Akio is at least still entertaining enough.

Plenty of attention is given to the environment resulting in a pleasantly organic and interactive atmosphere. However, Key characters seem to be heavily limited by their locale and its rules usually. These characters live in small world with strongly established routines and interweaving. Their world has this impending influence over them that can feel quite overbearing and almost contrived; they seem built to either shelter or cage them. This allows for the protagonist to serve the purpose of rectifying the constrictive character settings, gaining the subject's favor in the process. All in all, the creator seems stuck on external or set inhibitions, favoring to protect his or her characters through the intervention of a surrogate (the protagonist) rather than empower them through their own means.

That said, the behavior of a couple of these heroines sure is "unique." They're exaggerated in strange ways. I wouldn't go as far as to call it infantile, but there is definitely a strong child-like quality exhibited by some of the girls' characters, appearances aside. All the key elements here seem meant to tug at heartstrings—some would argue to point of overreaching manipulation. Still, even if I didn't know this was based on a visual novel, I'd say it definitely feels that way. The monologues are well-integrated but still feels intrusive overall. From the transitions to the dialogue, everything feels noticeably structured in segmented chunks, or scenes. I'm going to try to power through to After Story now.

One of the things I wasn't looking forward to when getting back into MHA was Bakugo.

As someone who suffered at the hands of bullies (verbally, emotionally and physically), both in the form of my older brother and other kids when I was young, I really really hate this character. if this was a western superhero story, he would become a villain but you can tell since this is anime, he's going to be "redeemed".

He's a character that I really want to see get his comeuppance and for Midori not to disturbingly take his psychotic abuse while reflecting on how awesome and great he actually is.

That was a good episode. I'm glad they also included that small bit after the credits to complete the connection and hint at things to come.

You know Megalo Box has been dropping so many death flags with every title and end card having the word dead and Ashita no Joe having one of the most famous death scenes in Anime I can see them pulling a swerve and having Joe live since no one would expect it.

Is it a bad sign if I still laugh at characters like Master Roshi and Mineta (from My Hero Academia) in 2018?

I'd probably still be laughing if those kinds of characters weren't super played out. If characters are gonna perv on people, it's gotta be done in new and creative ways to be funny like the way Prison School does it.

It's weird how the Captain Tsubasa remake was moving slower than the original at first and is now blowing past it. I can't remember the original too well, but they must be cutting out a bunch of filler in the tournament matches.

Yeah, but the remake was actually slower until around the Misaki episode and then it sped up a lot. Either that or the original slowed down around that point lol.
Always liked how in the original they run forever, like they are running miles through a small green planet and not playing football lol
First thing I noticed in the new anime is that they don't do that anymore and it feels "realistic" relatively

Dimension W. Entertaining premise, but except for one character the show is bad. Don't watch it for her, as she is a side character that barely get any scenes.
Watched the whole show and didn't even recognize her.
In fact I don't remember anything from that show except for steve jobs being one of the bad guys in a shady organization

I remember Clannad coming out at the time of the start of Moe everything in shows. However, it did avoid those traps by having characters with lives and are somewhat likable personalities. I think the major problem Clannad has is that certain parts have pacing issues, cuting a few character's story for what episode they are able to produce at the time.

Nearing the end of MHA season two now.

Villians wanting to join up with the league becuase of Stain doesn't really make any sense but it'll be entertaining enough when he breaks out and starts killing them to their idiotic surprise.

how doesn't it make sense?

Everyone assumed Stain was part of the League. They took advantage of it and were like "oh yeah he was part of it, want to join?"

Having never watched the original, I'm quite happy to report that I went until the day of the finale until someone spoiled me on this. Yay.

Stain hated both villains and heroes. These people just seem psychotic and want to abuse their powers but I suppose it wouldn't be the first time that a crazy person's idea got warped by even crazier people.

9 episodes into Eureka Seven so far, and I'm really enjoying it. Finally got to the part where I feel the story is starting to take off and things are getting quite interesting.

I will finish it today with my buddy. What Was once a cool bicycle anime at the begining is now just... God why did we Start this series back then. This season was weak too imo.

When is the next one? Manga hasnt finished this interhigh yet hmm
I don't know about you guys but I kind of wish I had stopped watching after the first inter-high. I kept going and now I feel like I'm on the hook to finish, even if I won't be satisfied with where it goes.

Megalo Box 13 END

I already guessed that they didn't have the guts to kill anybody off in the final fight (not that Joe or Yuri's death would have any weight with their characterization where they're at now), but the fight itself is still pretty disappointing. The animation is not very impressive, and it skips around very distractingly - they even cram in Yukiko's military subplot in to drive home the "gear is supplement to human" idea as if the whole show hasn't made that clear enough already. Overall the fight feels kinda like an afterthought, which may or may not have been the point since the two of them are content just duking out with each other finally, but still falls short of a climax that has been building for the whole season.

And the fact that I reread the Joe v. Rikishi fight and the final fight of Ashita no Joe manga in anticipation for this just furthers my disappointment with how much superior the characterization in the original material is. But the manga does have more room for that kind of stuff - it is what it is I guess. Maybe 2 cours could've made the anime better, who knows.

All told, nice underdog sport anime that promises way more than it can deliver. Soundtrack of the season tho. 6/10.

Eureka Seven 9-11

Boy is shit escalating rather quickly.

Finding out that Holland's crew were just another part of the military originally was a nice surprise. Things are looking rough for Eureka at the moment.

Megalo Box

I liked Megalo Box overall mainly because of how it looked, the likeable characters, and the soundtrack (even though I generally dislike rap). I'll give it an 8/10 only because it lacked any surprises... It was as simple and predictable a story as could possibly be told for a boxing story.

Nice to see Joe and Yuri together at the end with the rest of the team

Megalo Box 13

I found the end to be kinda... odd? Like it was missing any gravitas.
The one thing would be the final fight putting Yuri in a wheelchair, with the implication that he'll no longer be able to engage in his love of boxing. But there isn't any focus on that, and the impact is lessened since we had already seen a dude with no legs fighting previously.

Joe's acting all cool about not participating in the next Megalonia, but I don't get why. Is the implication that his fight with Yuri satisfied his hunger?

It's just a really happy ending for a series which had some emotional nuance leading up to it.
The final fight, like most others preceding it, wasn't very captivating on the action animation front, but I expected that.

Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai 13 END

Fuckers kept me on tenterhooks all the way through the ending credits, but I had a feeling they'd pull through and they did. WORTH IT.

Now give us a second season that's just Tada and Teresa being a ridiculously adorable couple 100% of the time (with a side of Charles and Alec flirting awkwardly until they actually get together).
