I know African teams don't usually do well in Europe, but this was their worst performance I've ever seen

Do you feel the same about Americans, Australians, South Americans, etc? Numerous national teams in those regions have people who are children of immigrants, or have a gran parent who immigrated from somewhere else. How many of those Saudi players have parents who came from to Saudi Arabia from abroad? Your argument is nuts.

I was replying to the original comment that was in relation to African countries. I never said it doesn't affected other regions, but it's rife in relation to Africa.

So with England now making EIGHT changes to tonight's lineup, what does that mean?

Sending in the B-team to play whatever cus doesn't matter anyway?

Obviously the leader of each nation arm wrestles to see who advances.

I would love to see that.

Bake off, obviously.

The Great World Cup Bake Off haha

No. Your ranking prior to the start of the tournament shouldn't have any impact on a decision like this.

If England deliberately lose to get a better bracket you know they are going to lose to Japan on penalties or something.

If England deliberately loses, they'll face Colombia.

The best chance Africa ever had at a team that could have been a legit contender was that 06 Ivory Coast team.
That team was loaded with talent but unfortunately they had the most difficult group imaginable.

Pickford (goalie) and Stones are the only two starters from Panama to start this game so they won't need to deliberately lose. Of course Belgium will likely make similar changes so this will just be an even match between a bunch of subs.

I think it all comes down to some people viewing the situation as "Rich country takes talent away from poor country" since those players can choose to play for either country but again, since they are free to choose just let them do what they want to do.

You do realise that these players are European born and that almost all of them regard themselves as Europeans? Many of those who end up playing for their parent's home country, do so becuse they want to play international football and can't crack their own national team. Look at the Welsh team and the number of English born players that play for them for example.

But it's not like we're flying them out here when they're 15 just so they can get the nationality and play for us ? They're born here. It's ludicrous to say we're taking them away.

It's crazy, especially when you see the sentiments of players like Lukaku who state emphatically that they are Belgian. Yet they have to face scrutiny from certain Belgians who don't think that they are true Belgians, and scrutiny from foreigners who think that they aren't true Belgians either.

There are a number of players who aren't or choose otherwise (Umtiti was born in Cameroon to name one from a long list). England were all over Zaha but he chose Ivory Coast after all.

This discussion could go on for ages, as it comes down to opinions at the end of the day. Don't agree with me, fair enough.

I mean all of the favorites advanced?
Except for Germany who, considering the form they were in,would probably struggle against the Vatican
Some like Argentina barely managed it. One of Spain/Portugal could have been knocked out on the final day as well. Down to the wire for both teams as well. Favourites have been shaky.
