Indiana Jones will not be riding back into theaters on July 10, 2020.

The fifth film in the adventure series will miss its original release date, Variety has learned. Filming was supposed to begin in April of 2019 in the United Kingdom, but sources close to the production say that shooting will no longer start next spring and will have to be pushed back by months, if not a year. Potential crew members have already been informed of the delay.

Part of the issue is that the key members of the creative team have yet to sign off on a finished script. Collider reported on Thursday that Jonathan Kasdan, son of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" scribe Lawrence Kasdan, has been enlisted to deliver a new draft. A deal has yet to close to bring the writer on board, but it looks as though he will soon join the project. David Koepp ("Jurassic Park") took the first pass at the script. At one point, the fifth Indiana Jones was supposed to hit theaters in 2019.

Insiders stress that both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford remain committed to revisiting the beloved franchise about the globe-trotting archaeologist. Spielberg, however, has a full dance card of projects in development and it's possible one of them will slide in front of the "Indiana Jones" sequel. The Oscar-winning director is in pre-production on a remake of "West Side Story" and is also toying with making "The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara," a historical drama with Mark Rylance.

Good for John Kasdan but I expect this will eventually get canceled. Bad look for LF.

In half a month Harrison Ford will be goddamn 76 year olds. He can appear as a ghost or a zombie in the new movie if it takes them much longer

It's for the best. David Koepp may be Spielberg's golden boy but I never thought he was a good fit for the series. Some of the best stuff in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the Marion Ravenwood stuff which Larry Kasdan actually wrote uncredited. At least John has Larry on speed dial to the character right on last time.

"It turns out creating a pill that reverses the aging process is harder than we thought," a source added.

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand the need for this.

I mean this with no offense, but Harrison Ford isn't exactly a spring chicken, much less when he was in the 4th movie even.

The older he gets, the harder it is to believe that he is still capable of doing all the stunts and action scenes expected from the series. I mean what, are they gonna do a 6th movie afterwards with him in a wheelchair running down Russian soldiers?

If a new one MUST be made, then I think a reboot ala Star Trek or James Bond should be in order.

For fucks sake, another delay by a year? You gotta wonder if Spielberg really wants to make this movie.

they'll probably have Ford's role play like Sean Connery's role in the 3rd film and let a new lead do the heavy lifting. they need to pass the torch either way if they want to keep this franchise going and that involves proving the new lead can live up to Ford in the originals.

Make it a prequel to Raiders and had Harrison Ford tell the story. Get the guy who played him in Solo to play a young Indiana Jones.

You really gonna complain that Spielberg is refusing to move ahead on a Koepp draft that feels undercooked?

This is a good sign for IJ5, if anything.
That is good. What is not good is the long delays, and the fact that Spielberg keeps on adding new projects in front of Indy 5 (The Post and West Side Story). Doesn't really scream enthusiasm about Indy 5.
