I mean, a sequel to Sicario is totally unnecessary. But this was never meant to be that. As the article with Sheridan I linked to on this page makes clear, this was never Sicario 2. This was "Soldado" and then marketing fucked it.

At the same time tho they left Emily blunts character in limbo at the ending scene of the first movie so her comin full circle again with del toro again does somewhat warrant a sequel or if the rumor is true they get her for the third movie to complete the trilogy

Thought it was just ok, wasn't bad though at least. Really didn't care for the ending much at all.

Apparently he tried to write her into this movie, and just didn't come up with a compelling story for her continuation from Sicario. Maybe by the time they do a sequel to this, he'll have one.

And Sheridan has gone on record saying there could be something interesting with her further down the line, just not for what this movie is trying to do. I think it would be cool to get her back some day, see how she's grown from being utterly used in the first movie, to someone much more experienced in that world now.

Sicario is my second fave Denis film after 2049, I was always skeptical going into this one, and I thought it was pretty bad. The movie desperately needed an Emily Blunt type character in the third act, cause the movie kinda missed the point of the original completely without her. Honestly, the whole third act is kinda just terrible.

Ok I was home 15 mins before the movie start but then friend decided to go.

Made it in time. My expectations were low because of the reviews, but I enjoyed it

I'm not there for the action but the suspense. Reminded me of Narcos from Netflix

I wish it wasn't called the way it was, because with that ending. You will go. Ooooooh

The third act is
basically the first act to another film, which is why its so weird.

I really enjoyed it! Its a slow burn and it sets up a sequel. But i will say the first half is pretty amazing. The premise it goes for sounds great then the middle drags a bit but the ending is solid. I think the 3rd could be what i wanted this movie to do for half way. Also be warned this movie does not shy from volience there is a scene in the begining that got one person to walk out of my theater.

Watched it earlier and pales in comparison to it's predecessor. Medellin is still a great character though idk of I can say the same for Josh Brolin just hanging out.

I loved the first one, raw and uncompromising. The reactions to this are kinda all over the place... anyone have any spoiler free advice on where I should put my expectations / on what to expect ?

Just glanced at the review snippets in the OP and I'm in no way surprised. I attended an early press screening some weeks ago and came out very disappointed. On the surface it's well made, but it has absolutely nothing to say.

One thing I disliked about the first film is the beginning. The FBI agents raid a house where the drug smugglers had been stationed and find many corpses hidden in the walls. I didn't like that the agents didn't notice the smell. They only found the corpses incidentally. Anyone who has ever encountered a decaying corpse knows that unmistakable stench. And this house had at least ten. It was a glaring oversight on the filmmakers' part.

I liked it. Not as tense as the first movie. And the subplot with that other character felt a stretch especially that ending.

But Damn if I don't love Josh Brolins portrayal.

I think all of the corpses were wrapped multiple times in plastic, but even still, yes the concept is a stretch, definitely artistic license for the shock value.

Keep Emily Blunt's character as far away from these movies as possible. Such a poorly written character.

I loved the first movie. This was just all over the place. The acting is great, the writing is not. The story is good, the pacing is not.

The ending, the very very end, was silly? That character looks like a silly karate kid that was held down and tattooed by rogue Cobra Kai students.

Overall, I would see a third, this feels like they could take in the direction of the Bourne films. But with what they were doing here I feel it might work better as a Netflix show?

Overall it was alright. I thought the whole climax was pretty weak and it seemed to just fizzle out.

That scene was a bit intense except for the part with the woman and child. I am guessing it's because the audience knows there were only 3, but it still came off a bit silly that she would walk towards someone with a bomb on his chest.

Just finished watching it. Pretty much a forgettable film that in no way stands up to the first. In a couple years you'll still be talking about the original Sicario while forgetting they even made a follow up.

Trailers made it seem like an action film but it's a slow burn with lots of tension like the first one. I liked the film, though I didn't get the reasoning behind
the Mexican American kid leaving the truck in disgust only to go back and become a gangster. Nor did I get why Alejandro came to ask him if he wants to be a Sicario.

the ending was a let down

Just watched. It was surprisingly ok, I went in with zero expectations.

What I don't get its why do they speak so much english. Benicio del Toro and the girl speaking english between themselves made no sense.
You can't tell he is not mexican, but he sounds pretty convincing when he tries.

WTF at Taylor Sheridan acting like this movie stand apart from Sicario. This movie relies heavily on having seen the first, and feels like part two of at least three. This is the least stand alone film he's written. It literally feels like a few episodes of a series. I found it watchable if completely unsatisfying, which was sort of the intention. There's no ending here at all.

Man, the third act really drags this movie down. The first 2/3's had great intensity and action, but the back portion just feels like a lot of stretching for a minimal return. Still enjoyed it, but that kept the movie from being as strong as the first.
