To me this sounds like a First Strike-like book. It makes a lot of narrative sense to jump a bit in the games to cement the new status quo, I don't begrudge us getting a book to tide us over.

There's far more people I reckon who are peeved about the fiction having to stand still for the games than people who are annoyed "stuff happens" in the books.
I'd be perfectly happy if they released this thing after 6 is out to cover the interval but c'mon. This just feeds into the narrative surrounding Halo fiction that you need to follow the expanded universe to keep up with the story.

I think it really depends on how you set up those elements in-game. I don't think there was ever much backlash about needing to read First Strike to know what happens between H1 & 2, because the opening of 2 gave you enough context and had its own pressing plot beats. Same with 2 to 3 and Chief jumping off the dreadnought. With Halo 4 a lot of the context for the Forerunner parts of the story was delivered in a single info dump or through terminals you couldn't actually view in game, so people who hadn't kept up with the expanded fiction felt lost. With Halo 5 if you hadn't played Spartan Ops you'd be asking "why is Halsey missing an arm and with the Covenant?" and if you had played Spops but hadn't read Escalation you'd be asking "what happened to the mcguffin that was the key to that whole storyline?"

Excited to see Halo come to my local supermarket checkout.

PASSION & POWER ARMOR
As many of you have seen, we've announced several awesome new Halo stories coming to bookshelves this year, but we're not done yet. Announcing Halo: Dare to Love, our first foray into the sci-fi romance genre. We're excited to open up Halo to a brand-new audience with this impassioned tale of love and war. More details to come.

Fell off Legacy of Onyx early on due to moving when it released, but I went back to it this week and am pretty satisfied with the book.

Sure there were some tired story beats but getting a true civilian's perspective more than made up for it. Things like reading how the Arbiter's speeches were rebroadcast on human networks or getting the official story on the events of the games add so much to the universe for me.

So my current plan is to add tonight...

Books: Cover of Bad Blood and Halo: Silent Storm

Comics: Collateral Damage

And I think that's it?

I also just ordered a bunch of books from Amazon! Ordered Envoy, Legacy of Onyx, Retribution, Warfleets, and pre-ordered Bad Blood.

Edit: The opening post has been updated. :)

Halo: Battle Born set for release sometime in 2016.

"Saskia, Dorian, Evie, and Victor aren't exactly friends at their small high school on the middle-of-nowhere colony world of Meridian. Each has their own problems, from absent parents to supporting their family, getting into a good college to making the next hit holo-film. But those problems were nothing next to the threat now facing their world: The alien alliance known as the Covenant is laying siege to Meridian, for reasons that aren't so easily explained.

With their village in flames, the four teens find themselves stuck above ground, locked out of the town shelter where the rest of the survivors are gathered. Together, Saskia, Dorian, Evie, and Victor are thrust into battle with nothing but a few scavenged weapons and an injured Spartan, one of the UNSC's super-soldiers. What's forged from the destruction will determine the fate of Meridian, and tilt the battle for humanity's survival."

Didn't see anyone talk about this in the thread. Seems good. Cool to see Meridian during the war and not after.

Yeah it looks to be teen-focused but stuff like this make the world seem more alive than just endless military/black ops stuff.

Finished up Bad Blood. Overall I thought it was solid. My main issues with it are how rushed the first section feels; I know they want to get Buck on his own adventure, but getting everyone off Genesis, to Sanghelios, and then onto Infinity felt way too easy, and it feels like the Created status quo is set up way too fast (aka a recurring issue with 343's handling of timeframes.) The fact that it only takes hours to get anywhere in the universe keeps bothering me too; even Star Trek takes days or weeks.

Hm.. I will be beginning Bad Blood this week and will try to finish it up this weekend so I can give my own thoughts.

Still got so much to catch up on. At least I finally own everything to do so.

I can't get over that the Goblin, the Grunt mech, is cannon. I thought it was a joke for Warzone but nope.

Also do we know if Halo: Silent Storm will have any calls to what leads up to Infinite? We know it's a story that takes place a year after contact with the Covenant and will also include some rebels.

What about the new 3 part comic series Halo: Collateral Damage?

I'm just trying to stay caught up on everything.

The beginning was extremely rushed and uneventful. I feel like getting off of Genesis should have been a Battle in itself. The stuff on Sanghelios just seemed so just thrown in just to give a nod to the fact that "Hey gangs all here".

I love the Goblin that is just amazing. Grunts need a win lol.

As far as we know Silent Storm will not have any calls to Infinite but it's still away out so it might still.

No idea but I heard good things about the first issue.

Also I didn't catch this when I was looking through the book but...

Ancient_Human_cruiser.jpg

So straight up ONI found an Ancient Human ship still intact. Designated Site Yankee-002-G3.

I wonder if this will play into anything.

Considering that they've been following up on a lot of old plot threads (who expected Dural 'Mdama to get mentioned again, let alone the Sharqoui) I'm sure we'll see 343GS sooner rather than later. But I wouldn't really expect that to get followed up in the games.

343GS should be Chief's new AI. :D

Finished Bad Blood the other day, ultimately really ended up enjoying it. The writing for Buck was surprisingly good.

Just finished Silent Storm last night.

It's really, really good. Felt like a bit of a love letter to the original Nylund novels, it was great to revisit that time period again.

Hearing nothing but great things about the book; looking forward to going through it once I'm finished my current read.

So, I just bought an Xbox One X on eBay in order to replay through the entire Halo series. I was diving deep into Destiny's lore and I wanted more, and I'm just itching to play through Halo again. It arrives on Saturday and I could not be more excited to dive back in at 4K. Never played 1 and 2 anniversary or 5, so there will be a lot of new stuff to see. Also plan on digging into the Terminals.

Picked up Halo Mythos as well, seems like a great book. I have a few of the early Halo novels, but if I get hooked, I'll have to pick up some of these newer ones, especially the Greg Bear stuff.

Finally had a chance to read through Bad Blood on a flight yesterday. Solid book and felt like they wrapped up a number of elements based on fan reactions too. Good writing and follow on story events/characters was the sort of Halo book content I like reading.

Seems like Fillion is cutting major games work? Dead in Destiny 2 and basically out of Osiris. Also finding out about the Forerunner tech to hide from Cortana was interesting for where it leads in future events.

Next up for me is Silent Storm, I like the comment it's similar to Nylund.

Find. Claim. Profit. In a post-Covenant War galaxy littered with scrap, it's the salvager's motto—and Rion Forge certainly made her mark on the trade. All she wanted was to grow her business and continue the search for her long-lost father, but her recent discovery of a Forerunner debris field at the edge of human-occupied space has now put her squarely in the crosshairs of the Office of Naval Intelligence and the violent remains of the Covenant. Each faction has a desire to lay claim to the spoils of ancient technology, whatever the cost, sending Rion and the crew of the Ace of Spades on a perilous venture—one that unexpectedly leads them straight into danger far greater than anything they've ever encountered…

What is that robot looking thing? New species?

Imma wild guess something she scrapped together herself for protection and heavy lifting while salvaging. Shit even her last name is Forge.

Also Ace of Spades? I can't get over the crossover of names in Destiny/Halo. It just keeps happening.

The Renegades cover looks like a checklist of a bored marketing consultant.
Also, the Ace of Spades has a little poster/flag of an Ace of Spade at the back. Subtle.

So Renegade has come out and while I don't have it yet apparently people are saying it's AMAZING. It picks up so many loose threads but does it with great care and never feels like forced fan service.

Alright, so in the wake of that awesome Trailer. I really want to catch up on the Lore since the ending of Halo 5 to prepare myself for Halo Infinite next year. What should I read?

Halo Bad Blood and Halo Renegades. Though for Renegades make sure to read the novella Smoke and Shadow beforehand and Halo: Primordium.

Halo New Blood is also good lead into Bad Blood.

Thats, actually not that bad. I'm all caught up on the Forerunner Trillogy by Greg Bear and I've read New Blood.

Thanks! Probably going to start with Bad Blood since New Blood was the last novel I read (granted, awhile back). Then I'll check out Smoke and Shadow's followed by Renegades.

hm... so in the Discover Hope trailer, there's a brief bit during his bootup sequence (must be that Solid Spartan Drive :P)

Armour BIOS // Mjolnir // Ver 12. .1 / ID_117
Created by Materials Group 02.10.2559

Mjolnir Powered Assault Armour System // Generation III

and stuff.

Might have been a line of braille at the start of the sequence?

There are a bunch of hex values tabulated when the SPDR-00x scrolled by too:

--> seems to just be a garbled "believe" message repeating?

Posted it here because stuff was getting lost in the trailer thread. *shrug*
