The domestic candidates are pretty well known at this point. I'm more curious who they'll go after from the international pool.
I think it'll wind up being someone domestic. The federation might be a bit gun shy on someone that hasn't had any MLS experience after Klinsmann. I could see a former player turned coach, Henry might be good but he doesn't have enough coaching experience yet. So probably gonna be Berthalter or Marsch. If it's Marsch he needs to stop overthinking everything in the big games, he might have a bit of a complex about it at this point. I think all the knockout game flame-outs have him second guessing how good his best 11 is, it'll probably get better once we win something though.

even the US team that failed to qualify would've beaten that germany team lol.

tbh though as much as it sucks, in some ways im kinda glad we didnt make it. I feel like the level of play has increased and countries have gotten better in the last 4 years. even if we just squeaked in we probably would've had an 06 repeat.

I think it's more a lot of countries have gotten kinda shit in addition to that. I feel like we aren't the only one that had a bit of a missing generation.

All signs point to him being on the way out. This just also indicates that the coaching search might drag on a bit longer.

This is a good article. That said, I think there are some strong reasons to expect that this projects too high a level for Rooney. Firstly, 3 of Rooney's 10 PL goals were penalties. And his 7 non-penalty goals were buoyed by unsustainable finishing: he was only at ~4 expected goals. Adjusting these numbers down shows Rooney at ~.24 xNPG+A/90, which moves him much farther left on that regression line. Given his low output + extremely low physical level, I'd be very surprised if he ended up coming close to justifying the investment in him.

I think it means the next coach is likely an MLS guy that currently has a job. They'll let him finish out their season then bring them in for a big January camp.

Very good analysis, thanks!

We'll see. MLS based seems likely, but I have no idea who they'll approach from the international pool. Sarachan's contract was going to expire at the end of the month, and it's not like they'll have a coach lined up by then in any case.

If they bring in someone domestic who would you want? Would have to be between Jesse Marsch (I think if he had the chance he would choose USMNT over Leipzig) Gregg Berhalter, Oscar Pareja (But FC Dallas have been trash this year) and Caleb Porter (Turned down OCSC job)

Gregg Berhalter if we still had the old guard, but with us focusing on playing the kids, it has to be Marsch, right? Of all the choices I'd like either of the two. Caleb Porter 100% wants it. I think he always made it pretty clear that was his goal, but I just don't see him being successful at the international level.

I'd want Marsch, but I'm biased. I'd be ok with Berhalter. Tata Martino would be fun, but I doubt he's available. No thanks on Caleb Porter. Vermes is out of the running now?

Marsch needs a trophy first, to get that monkey off his back. I'd rather not have the US coach go galaxy brain in the big matches.

Yeah, I forgot about Vermes. He brought out the best in quite a few players. He resurrected Benny from New England. He brought in a kid like Salloi and is bringing out the best in him as well. Illie, Rubio, Lobato, obviously Besler and Zusi. Dwyer. He brought out the best in Nemeth. Sapong. Kamara.

Does he achieve that with kids like Pulisic, McKennie, Weah, Seargent?

We should also ask, "Will he look for new kids to play?" Because that's where both Arena and Klinsmann went wrong: they both had their guys and that was it. Whoever comes next needs to not play favorites with players or leagues.

How they gonna leave the league assist leader off the All Star team? This game becomes more of a joke with each passing year.

First they came for the GSU and no one cared because they're the GSU, then they came for Sector Latino...

This thread is kicking my ass right now haha.

No Kaku - another terrible omission.

Sector Latino. The pride of Chicago Fire supporter's since the beginning. Some members attacking other fans in the parking lot is gross as fuck. Fuck outta here with that bullshit. Really sad the last few matches without them. Lifeless atmosphere.

I don't know if you all have been watching the last few matches in Bridgeview, but it's incredibly quiet - except for this one woman. Bless her heart. It's so damn quiet you can pick this woman out FOR THE ENTIRE MATCH off-key, drained, singing her heart out trying to get the plebs around her to join in. The last two home games.

It is so fucking hard to support this team, man.

That Collin Martin thread made me all teary-eyed. Love to see the support. Hope he comes off the bench here in the next half.

techera suspended 3 games for offensive language. Apparently towards Fafa Picault of the Union, so i'm assuming it was racist. Techera's been an undisciplined player for awhile (remember the time he went studs up to the balls on a RBNY player in CCL? Or when he got red carded after taking off his shirt in celebration WHILE ALREADY BEING ON A YELLOW?), but this is certainly a new low. If this fucking club gave a damn about the "OUR ALL OUR HONOUR" bullshit slogan, Techera would be outta here.

But they'll probably brush this off as "oh he's just gotta be smarter next time" like they did with him before and with all the countless undisciplined plays made by other players. Nothing will change and we'll continue to be mediocre and keep on watching literally all of our rivals win MLS Cups. :-)))

The fuck, Orlando fans? WE TOLD YOU TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIM AND YOU DO THIS

Speaking of Columbus, Precourt finally appeared last night. In Austin. Speaking about how much he loved Austin.

Crew players really need to start speaking out about their distaste for this whole thing. They've told us off to the side they're not happy about it.
