Maybe they'll just finish book 4 in half a season, and we'll get the beginning of book 5 for the latter half. :P
I don't know, I hope book 5 gets its own season. It's the best of the series and so much happens that I'd hate to see it severely abridged.
Me too. Everything about him just rubed me the wrong way, glad he got squished.Fuck, that was great. Also, holy shit Diogo finally got his. I hated that little smug prick, I actually cheered at the screen when he was squished like the bug he was.
My god that was beautiful. The range of emotion going from sadness at the thought of Drummer yet again sacrificing herself (seriously at this point she better be given immunity), to that little weasel getting his ass squashed, almost gave me battle of the bastards euphoria.Fuck, that was great. Incidentally, my friend described these episodes as "Battle of the Bastards" levels of intense!
That episode seriously needed another hour to flesh out some of the turns that were a bit jarring/make them work better. Flesh out Melba's turn. Flesh out Ashfords changing mindset a little better. Give the 'Fuck it let's blow up a nuke in here' plan a little more context.
I still really liked it, but it just felt super rushed on a few plot threads.
And with better writing. No plot holes and organic story telling on the Expanse as opposed to GOT characters doing stupid things for plot's sake.
We didn't see Diogo's body! He isn't dead! Space marine armor let him hold up the elevator for like an hour while he fumed about how he will get his revenge on Naomi, yet
Fantastic finale, man it would have been pretty blue balls if the show didn't keep trucking on. Although it was a nice little closure to A story, the story of humanity getting outside our solar system. Just not THE story, of what happens next.
I do love the title of the episode (and book), Abaddon's Gate. Abaddon, the Angel of Death and the hebrew bible referring to his domain as the realm of the dead. Sure sync'd up beautifully with that last shot of Miller and Holden standing on a presumably deserted alien planet surrounded by rings and nobody around. Chilling!
I did rewind a few times the last few seconds, SOMETHING happens as Holden transitions through the ring but I can't really tell what that "thing" is that appears. Something weird for sure.
That's what makes it so exciting.I have no idea what is going to happen next season. I guess we have finally reached the expanse section of The Expanse.
Blowing up a nuke in alien space is pretty stupid. I understand everyone has them, and humanity loves its hammers. But yeah, probably the most unrealistic part.
I assumed the protomolecule attached itself to him cause of protomolecule Miller saying "That's what id like to know. Gonna need a ride."We didn't see Diogo's body! He isn't dead! I was also completely happy that both he and Melba are still alive. Beyond Drummer's close brush with death, either of these characters could have easily died, but I think there's plenty more interesting places they can go. I love that Ashford may have been completely wrong but its not like he wasn't trying to save the universe as well. So Drummer bringing him a drink at the end was great in my view as it means they didn't wash away all the progress to turn him into an idiotic villain.Man I love this show so much.
Everyone mentioned how great every character is, but no one specifically mentioned Ashford.
I love how they subverted my expectations completely with Ashford. Yeah he did shitty stuff at the end but I'm so happy he respected Drummer, genuinely did want what's beat. I was completely expecting mutiny and I'm so happy it didn't happen.

Can someone help me out with something?
I think I may not have been paying full attention to the last few episodes of season 3, but how did Clarissa/Melba go from the brig to the bridge of the Behemoth? And why did she end up helping Holden & co?
She was taken to the brig because they needed every able body to help with the reparations to charge up the laser, and she was qualified. Ashford was surprised too but needed all the help he could get.Can someone help me out with something?

It was a little glossed over, much like Drummer not invoking her captaincy when she was back on her feet, but when Ashford speaks to Melba she says that because he needed all hands on deck for his suicide run they let her out as a technician. Her about-face (also somewhat rushed) came from Anna's talking and hearing the "real" Holden when he and Naomi were talking in the cells.

She ended up helping them because:
a) Eavesdropping on Holden and Naomi she realized he was actually a good guy willing to sacrifice himself for others, thus rendering her villainous mental image of him moot and making her reflect on her actions.
b) Anna actually acting as her conscience and making her realize that all the shitty things she did for her father turned her into a monster, all in behalf on a horrible man who doesn't really deserve it.

This is how I interpreted it and I saw Miller's face in that effect moving into Holden. As it was happening just as Miller said he needed a ride.I thought Miller said something about "coming along" with Holden so I'm going to guess it was Miller's ghost/AI/Whatever it is going into Holden so he will be able to keep talking to him after they're out of the Slow Zone.
I finished season 3 and don't want to wait.
Can I just start reading book 4 or will I be lost?
You'll be a little lost. Some things are different from the show.
I have no idea what is going to happen next season. I guess we have finally reached the expanse section of The Expanse.
I'm not entirely sure what was the purpose of the aliens to be honest.

Yes, end of book three.finally finished
how far into the books are we? book 3 ended in the same note?
Just finished watching it and goosebumps after goosebumps. I felt it was a tad rushed (perhaps because I was cognizant that the show had been cancelled by this point). I really hope all the OG writers, directors and actors stay for when the production starts again for 4th season on Amazon.
Honestly, it's hard to watch other space sci-fi shows that don't follow the laws of physics. Aside from sound in space, almost everything else can be based in our current understanding of physical laws.
Now, I am wondering whether I should read/listen to the entire series or just stick to the tv shows. Do they diverge significantly and is the series as a whole concluded in the books?
Not our solar system.
Not strange at all. He's intrigued by these people who have empathy and care about the well being of others.
