Maybe they'll just finish book 4 in half a season, and we'll get the beginning of book 5 for the latter half. :P

Fuck, that was great. Also, holy shit Diogo finally got his. I hated that little smug prick, I actually cheered at the screen when he was squished like the bug he was.
Me too. Everything about him just rubed me the wrong way, glad he got squished.

My god that was beautiful. The range of emotion going from sadness at the thought of Drummer yet again sacrificing herself (seriously at this point she better be given immunity), to that little weasel getting his ass squashed, almost gave me battle of the bastards euphoria.

Incidentally, my friend described these episodes as "Battle of the Bastards" levels of intense!

That episode seriously needed another hour to flesh out some of the turns that were a bit jarring/make them work better. Flesh out Melba's turn. Flesh out Ashfords changing mindset a little better. Give the 'Fuck it let's blow up a nuke in here' plan a little more context.

I still really liked it, but it just felt super rushed on a few plot threads.

Worked for me. The tension and pacing ratcheting was fun for a finale.

I honestly think this show beat out Westworld for best season this go around for me. And I loved Westworlds later half.

Really glad Amazon picked it up.

And with better writing. No plot holes and organic story telling on the Expanse as opposed to GOT characters doing stupid things for plot's sake.

Blowing up a nuke in alien space is pretty stupid. I understand everyone has them, and humanity loves its hammers. But yeah, probably the most unrealistic part.

Anyone notice the plothole with the Roci? No one was aboard to power her down...

We didn't see Diogo's body! He isn't dead! Space marine armor let him hold up the elevator for like an hour while he fumed about how he will get his revenge on Naomi, yet

Fantastic finale, man it would have been pretty blue balls if the show didn't keep trucking on. Although it was a nice little closure to A story, the story of humanity getting outside our solar system. Just not THE story, of what happens next.

I do love the title of the episode (and book), Abaddon's Gate. Abaddon, the Angel of Death and the hebrew bible referring to his domain as the realm of the dead. Sure sync'd up beautifully with that last shot of Miller and Holden standing on a presumably deserted alien planet surrounded by rings and nobody around. Chilling!

I did rewind a few times the last few seconds, SOMETHING happens as Holden transitions through the ring but I can't really tell what that "thing" is that appears. Something weird for sure.

cYZeP4a.jpg

I thought it was going to bring back Miller.

I'm not gonna spoil the books for y'all, but what Holden saw is likely gonna have significant implications for the rest of the story.

I have no idea what is going to happen next season. I guess we have finally reached the expanse section of The Expanse.

I'm not entirely sure what was the purpose of the aliens to be honest.

One thing that keeps racing in my mind is how differently the reaction to these episodes would have been if they were the last thing we got. I think they work as a series finale in certain very thematic ways, but I can say for a certainty I would not have felt satisfied. This is where the story gets its friggin' name. Let's see what that's about, right?

Hey, atleast it's not as bad as - GOT spoilers

Sansa not telling Jon about the huge frigging Vale army that could have helped them in the battle

While BOTB was intense spectacle the plot behind it was terrible. I think Ashford wanting to blow up the station because he feels it is a threat makes sense - though, yeah, they could have spend time to slowly get him to that mindset instead of a 5 min conversation with Kolvoord.

We have seen a lot of people make irrational decisions in the last few episodes and I think that's just folks panicking because they are in the unknown.

I assumed the protomolecule attached itself to him cause of protomolecule Miller saying "That's what id like to know. Gonna need a ride."

Man I love this show so much.

Everyone mentioned how great every character is, but no one specifically mentioned Ashford.

I love how they subverted my expectations completely with Ashford. Yeah he did shitty stuff at the end but I'm so happy he respected Drummer, genuinely did want what's beat. I was completely expecting mutiny and I'm so happy it didn't happen.

I was also completely happy that both he and Melba are still alive. Beyond Drummer's close brush with death, either of these characters could have easily died, but I think there's plenty more interesting places they can go. I love that Ashford may have been completely wrong but its not like he wasn't trying to save the universe as well. So Drummer bringing him a drink at the end was great in my view as it means they didn't wash away all the progress to turn him into an idiotic villain.

I just watched the finale! Great stuff!

I read the first book a long time ago and really didn't not like it, but I love love love this show. I'm so glad Amazon is picking it up, hopefully the quality is just as good if not better.

I hope they push Amos a bit more, his one of my favorite characters and I'd love if they'd stop poking at his arc and go all in. But maybe that's what makes his character great.

Just watched the final, my goodness what an intense two hours, I can see what they mean by it having a series ending if they needed it but boy am I glad we get more, I love everything about this show. And Drummer lives! <3, I was sweating it for a bit there.

Given that Holden was talking about the ones that killed the gatebuilders and the ominous music at the time, it looks to be related to that.

Can someone help me out with something?

I think I may not have been paying full attention to the last few episodes of season 3, but how did Clarissa/Melba go from the brig to the bridge of the Behemoth? And why did she end up helping Holden & co?

It was a little glossed over, much like Drummer not invoking her captaincy when she was back on her feet, but when Ashford speaks to Melba she says that because he needed all hands on deck for his suicide run they let her out as a technician. Her about-face (also somewhat rushed) came from Anna's talking and hearing the "real" Holden when he and Naomi were talking in the cells.

She was taken to the brig because they needed every able body to help with the reparations to charge up the laser, and she was qualified. Ashford was surprised too but needed all the help he could get.

She ended up helping them because:

a) Eavesdropping on Holden and Naomi she realized he was actually a good guy willing to sacrifice himself for others, thus rendering her villainous mental image of him moot and making her reflect on her actions.

b) Anna actually acting as her conscience and making her realize that all the shitty things she did for her father turned her into a monster, all in behalf on a horrible man who doesn't really deserve it.

Thanks alot, I thought they had glossed over a little too much in that last stretch of the show. Its a shame they didn't fully explain the protomolecule like the books did, though the line "like humans paving over ant hills" was pretty great.

Thanks, Melba in season 3 helped cement Anna as the best "TV" (even though she exists in the books) character. How can you not love the nurse/preacher who chases after a psychopath through space? lol

I thought Miller said something about "coming along" with Holden so I'm going to guess it was Miller's ghost/AI/Whatever it is going into Holden so he will be able to keep talking to him after they're out of the Slow Zone.

This is how I interpreted it and I saw Miller's face in that effect moving into Holden. As it was happening just as Miller said he needed a ride.

I see, thanks. I guess I'll have to wait.

The books are insanely fast reads and imo its worth reading from book 1 just to see the (fairly small for the most part) differences from the show. I think I read each book in like 3-4 hours max, they aren't that big or filled with complex writing, can just breeze right through them.

They are up to 7 books now with the 8th due out Dec 4th 2018 and they have more or less been sticking to 1 book/year since the beginning.

I'm certain it was rushed since they expected this to be the last episode ever.

Holden's ear look like those guys from Lord of the Rings. Crossover confirmed.

Just finished watching it and goosebumps after goosebumps. I felt it was a tad rushed (perhaps because I was cognizant that the show had been cancelled by this point). I really hope all the OG writers, directors and actors stay for when the production starts again for 4th season on Amazon.

Honestly, it's hard to watch other space sci-fi shows that don't follow the laws of physics. Aside from sound in space, almost everything else can be based in our current understanding of physical laws.

Now, I am wondering whether I should read/listen to the entire series or just stick to the tv shows. Do they diverge significantly and is the series as a whole concluded in the books?
