Jon Stewart began the month of June with a triumphant return to the stand-up stage. He's ending it with a return to late-night TV, where he delivered a message to President Donald Trump Thursday night alongside his old friend Stephen Colbert.

Tagging in for Colbert on The Late Show at the end of a very tough week, Stewart decided to speak directly to the president. "Hello, Donald. It's me, the guy you made sure everyone knew was Jewish on Twitter," he began, referring to his infamous online feud with Trump. "I know you're upset about all the criticism you've been taking in the 'fake news' and the 'fake late-night shows.' It's just that we're still having a little trouble adjusting to your presidency as it goes into its 500th year."

I love Stewart and all... it's just sad that people need to turn to talk show hosts for passion and leadership while Democratic leaders urge civility towards tyrants and besmirch Maxine Waters.

Pretty much,

Talk show hosts have more backbone than these supposed "leaders"

Everything is pretty fucked honestly.

Here's the Youtube video of Jon's latest segment on Colbert.

He is pretty much on point with what he says. As tiring as it has been and will always be during Trump's presidency, people can't just give in and say what he's doing is normal and just.

Seriously this is the most exhausting presidency ever. I feel like I'm going to be the one to age two decades from it, rather than the actual person in the oval office.

Something that upsets me is how the left needs to "fall in love" with someone. Someone very specific. Regarding Waters, I had someone explain to me today that the problem was that someone more well known did not deliver her message regarding political confrontation. I mean... she's a 79 year old black woman. She's the genuine article and understands bigotry. It's the white leadership's problem if they don't get her point. Why do you need a white leader or talk show host to explain this to you, especially in these times? I feel like I know the answer and it's disappointing.

Edit: I do love and miss Jon, of course.

God, I've missed Angry Jon Stewart so fucking much.

And props to him for calling out the pathetic leaders of the Democratic Party at the end. Jon knows what's up.

Just finished watching the video, wow. Totally on point. Now I really miss his regular tv appearances.

Easy for a rich white man to say.
He's a Jew, like me. Like me, some people hate him for merely being a Semite. No amount of poverty or riches will ever allow us Jews not to be hated for being semites. Saying "easy for a rich white man" is a form of erasure of my people, and implies that you can be rich enough to escape being hated on race, when that is not the case. To the bigoted pieces of crap out there we're just 2 more Jews to blame for the world's problems.

You can't escape the hate, but you can escape the consequences of most of the damage being inflicted on America today.

Obviously I wasn't implying my statement as an erasure of the plight of the Jewish people. That's a stretch to even think that.

You called him a "rich white man". That ignores his own Jewish plight, plight which he has talked about to some degree before.

I'm not going to argue with someone going out of their way to find a reason to be offended.

He's a rich, straight white man, plain and simple. He has it easier than 99% of Americans that are actually suffering under Trump.

Ok but did you actually watch the video? Because this isn't a "stay strong everything will be ok" speech, it's "don't let them go out and pretend like these assholes are saints" and how the majority of Democrats are being "feckless".

I thought Donald Trump disqualified himself at numerous points. But there is now this idea that anyone who voted for him has to be defined by the worst of his rhetoric. There are guys in my neighborhood that I love, that I respect, that I think have incredible qualities who are not afraid of Mexicans, and not afraid of Muslims, and not afraid of blacks. They're afraid of their insurance premiums.

Mr Stewart can sit back down.

Hey mods can we get some ground rules set so this thread doesn't become a total derail shitshow? I really need a feel good thread right and I was hoping this would be it...

Is that what I implied? No, I'm saying cynicism is what makes people stay home on Election Day.

Hillary got more votes than anyone in history other than Obama in 2012. Trump got more votes than any Republican ever. People did not stay home on election day, and those who did certainly didn't do so because of cynicism. Trump won the election by a hilariously thin sliver of votes in three or four key states that would barely fill a baseball stadium combined. Stewart, in the video you refuse to watch, calls this playing of the electoral college out specifically.

My point is backed up by the article I linked, which you may want to check out because you obviously need to work on your reading comprehension.

You need to work on perceiving reality correctly, because if you're blaming Trump on the fucking Daily Show you are off in la la land.

Clearly it's the fault of the Daily Show's (cynical) brand of comedy and not, say, voter suppression that makes it more difficult for people to vote in the first place.

P.S. Voter turnout was higher in 2016 than in 2012.

Caz and ramiosisdeae, thanks for the thread and the video. Stewart's words genuinely moved me, especially the end with the Lincoln thing. I don't feel comfortable in this thread anymore, but I wanted to thank you guys for posting about it. I hope more people get to see it, there is some true wisdom there.

I don't think I've ever seen someone literally have logic so bad that it got them banned before. Kudos.

It is an interesting notion about how one side of the media is trying to make the extremes of Trump as a normal or (even worse) needed type of discourse. While I imagine the 2020 election will be even more out of hand and extreme, it really makes you wonder what 2024 will look like.

This stuff is just so tired at this point. It's empty of any sort of actual content. Just standard center left stuff. This is the guy who made fun of striking union members in Wisconson and made shitty trans jokes to try and frame a legit platform as crazy. Forgive me if I find this less than appealing.

Wow, Jon's parting shot to the democratic party is on point. We need more Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez and Welder and less centrist dipshits like Pelosi and Schumer. The opposition can't be Republican-light, they need to be true leftists.

Thanks for sharing that video. Recently cancelled my cable and I don't watch any of the talk shows anymore. I miss Stephen, and Jon especially.

Jon just has so much charisma. I know he wants to be retired but I swear he has a civic duty to appear on a regular basis to energize people.
