Black and White on PC...
I had to crack the game i purchased because the CD i bought had busted protection... it sucked... thanks Lionhead. I think all the french first press CDs were busted, another friend had the same issue.

Crash of the Titans. I knew it was gonna be awful but me being a huge CB fan I had to give it a try...
Oh, good question. Recently it was Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for Switch. I bought it digitally so I couldn't return it, unfortunately. I just realized quickly that after playing various incarnations of Street Fighter for 25+ years, I really didn't need this collection. Bummer!
I bought Megaman 2 for 3DS. The Gameboy version.
Have no reason to restart the game again for more disappointment.

on another note, that final fantasy crystal chronicles game for the gamecube, returned it and got the superior rpg... Tales of Symphonia.

Yup that game fucking sucked.
Some of my favorite games of all time include chrono trigger, witcher 3,, the last of us, ocarina of time etc. Certainly not an outlier in tastes. Salt and Sanctuary may very well be a good game but that artstyle, jeez.
Nights of Azure 2 on switch. I'm not a graphics whore, but if the framer ate drops into the teens from the littlest of action, in an ACTION game, you've got trouble. Swear to God it drops to the single digits during the big flashy super. Also, the visuals are insanely murky and dark. That's a real issue in a portable game.
But why, it had a previous game and a beta and everything. Not sure how you could buy it and still be disappointed immeasurably shortly after the start.
not exactly a game purchase, since its the humble monthly sub (which I would have regreted not subbing if anything good pops up so I was fucked either way), but the only game I was interested in, Portal Knights, left a terrible first impressions and I imediatly regretted it...well, regretted wanted it at least lol.
You're not alone. I don't regret getting the game. I just wish I knew how difficult it would be before hand.

Another one is Smash Bros. Melee
Thought it would be cool, but played 2 hours and never had much fun. To this day I don't understand how to like Smash Bros. It's just a bunch of random chaos to me.

Onrush. The way the crash mechanics work are very inconsistent.
It's also very bare bones. Definitely not worth the $60.

Pokemon Sun. Just...the worst writing, dialogue and cutscenes of any Pokemon game I've played. I made it about two hours in and just gave up.
- Pretty much every CoD I own aside from 4. I just end up impulse buying them. (been able to avoid them for the past couple of years though). After 1 MP match I always feel let down.
- From Dust. Looked extremely cool. The PC port was as terrible as people said it was but I didn't want to believe anyone.
- Mass Effect Andromeda. This one is pretty self explanatory... The core of the franchise (story, dialogue and animations) were a mess.
- GRID 2. Loved the first one. Clearly hadn't looked into the sequel enough though. No cockpit views was a big bummer.
And of course tons of movie tie in cash crabs that I bought as a kid.

There was this terrible Worms port for the original DS that I, hungry for new games shortly after launch, played immediately outside the store I bought it. Not a minute passed after starting a map until I went back into the store and exchanged it for Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. So disappointment turned into discovery of something wonderful.
First game I ever sold. No regrets.
That's on my list too. Worst N64 game I purchased.

Saw it at PAX at end of day when they were closing down. Just saw a glimps of it and the booth, looked like the art was amazing and the mix of videogame worlds sounded awesome.
Bought on PS4 after release and was PISSED at the completely unfair and ridiculous bullet hell experience that was just too unfair to enjoy or continue. (This is coming from someone who LOVED and enjoyed/beat/memorized Shadow of the Beast on Amiga and Super Ghouls and Ghosts on Snes).
Such a waste. Ugh.

I actually liked Isaac a lot.
The twin stick shooting was great but it seems it's not the same in Gungeon and you have to shoot with a button???
