So I opened up my Mario Odyssey game and there was no cartridge in it. The case was completely empty. What's weird is that the part that holds the cartridge looked like someone painted it black with a marker yet the box was still sealed although the very bottom of the plastic was completely loose.

Went back and luckily the manager I called believed me and gave me another game. I was prepared to eat the cost of the game because I didn't think anyone would believe that. Crazy.

That's very odd, but you're lucky you got it fixed for free. I would've bet you had to eat the cost, as most retailers tend to be assholes about things like that in my experience.

Yeah, I mean, how do you prove something like that? Hopefully it happens rarely enough so that when it does it seems genuine. Then again, she said when they take back returns of sealed games they don't open them, just right back onto the shelf. So I could see the potential for this to happen again. But yeah, I consider myself lucky and this was at Walmart of all places, they were totally cool about it.

Are you wanting to trade it in and make sure everything is deleted on it, probably what you'd want to do. That's the only thing I'd be sure to do so that none of your eshop info is on there.

I would look at the link below and follow those instructions if this is what you want to do. Good luck, ask away if you have add'l questions. :)

I've never played Rocket League for even two minutes. I've never seen two minutes of Rocket League footage. My wife and I just finished playing Mario Kart 8 together and she asked if there were other team games we could get for the system. I've now seen two minutes of Rocket League footage and it's like destiny that the first time I'll play it is on the Switch. Oh god it looks so good.

Is it a known issue for the console to crash when coming out of sleep mode?

I can tell th e screen is on as the babcklight is on, bbut no menu pops up. If I press the share button or hold down the power button for a few seconds I get life and small amount of UI but still no menu / game. I have to hard reset it.

It's happened a few times now.

The Switch needs a good pinball game that can be played with the console in a vertical orientation. Seems too obvious a fit.

Random question, has anyone tried Cat Quest? The screenshots looked charming and I really like cats. Hopefully it's not just shovel-ware.

I played and finished over the past few days and really enjoyed it. The game looks great and plays very smoothly. Mind you, the game is pretty easy. You have a load of spells at your disposal but I just upgraded the fire spell to the max ( first spell you get ) and managed to beat the game just by using that and my sword/staff. There seems to be plenty of post game content but it looks like you would have to grind your levels to be able to do significant damage to the enemies. I was happy enough with just experiencing the story and left it at that. Oh, and the writing and cat puns can be pretty funny at times, too.

Just got a Switch and Super Mario Odyssey on Monday. Really digging it so far. I also got a free copy of Snipperclips. Any must have accessories? I looked around online but saw a lot of conflicting things.

Also looking to get Mario + Rabbids and Zelda next week on Black Friday. Any must have downloadable games? I really want to check out Golf Story and Stardew Valley.

Speaking of micro sd
I got one today and decided to dl the LA Noire update and re-dl Mario Kart. This allocated around 20 gb immediately, but downloads error'd and it asked me to download everything all over again.
Problem is, it didn't delete the old file so I've now 40 gb used and no way to get rid of the first useless 20gb.

Wtf do I do now?

Can someone help shed some light on something for me? I'm looking at the Super Mario Odyssey bundle on Amazon and it's nearly $500. Why is it so expensive considering it's really just a $300 switch and $60 game? I see there's an small carrying case but is it priced that high just because of the red joycons?

Okay, I got my system 2 days ago. At first, I was setting myself up for some slight disappointments. First of all, wasn't the Odyssey bundle supposed to have a little Mario sack or something? There was nothing of the sort in it. Oh well. Then I couldn't connect to eShop for whatever reason, no matter what I did. I ended up hotspotting from my mobile phone just to be able to link my Nintendo account before moving back to wifi. I never had to do this with any other device I own, odd. I started downloading Odyssey and it was slow as fuck. My download speed is pretty bad at home but this was a new whole level really. Thinks weren't really looking good.

But after spending some quality time with the console, I am liking it very much. The general OS and all is very clean and barebones, but fast and functional. Not sure how earlier firmwares were but I like this one for what it is. The Joy-Cons feel surprisingly good, comfortable and precise. HD Rumble is fantastic and unlike the Wii I finally enjoy the double controller element. Some buttons are a bit too far off (+ and - especially), but they aren't exactly overused from what I saw so fine. Sliding the various pieces back and forth is also fairly easy, except for the black bar you put on the Joy-Cons: those are a pain in the ass to get off for some reason, and no I didn't put it inverted. As single controllers they're a bit too small for comfort, but they get the job done for some quick local multiplayer.

Library seems decent, albeit there's a lot of stuff already available on other consoles. Mario Kart 8 is fantastic, although I hate the assisted driving in 50cc, I hope that isn't in higher categories. Odyssey is pretty incredible, hands down best 3D platformer I've ever played, so creative and inventive. Will definitely keep an eye on Voez (I definitely need a rhythm game for the system), Bomberman (huge fan of the series but the price is a bit steep), Puyo Puyo Tetris (absolutely love these games but again I'd prefer to spend slightly less for it), and will likely double dip on Rocket League for when I'm on the move.

Overall, my early impressions are positive. The features are still not there and the library still needs to expand a lot, but I'm happy to have bought the console. It's a niece piece of tech. To think that less than a year ago I was one of many expecting doom and gloom scenarios for the Switch, now it's the first Nintendo console I buy in its launch year. Crow's delicious tbh.

You can turn assisted driving off either at the vehicle select screen or on the pause menu:

I saw those options but since they had no text underneath I figured they were alternate control methods. Thanks for the help, it was really annoying to try and do a tight corner going close to the wall and then the game brakes and puts me in the middle automatically. Not a biggie in 50cc as getting 3 stars is enough enough, but it would have pissed me off later surely.

Change your MTU in advanced WiFi settings to 1500 to speed up downloads.

I think only certain regions got the Mario case, I didn't get it with mine in Europe.

The OS hasn't changed since launch, it's always been nice and clean. It just lacks folders, as every console OS does at launch.

You can turn that on/off at the character select screen by pressing plus, or when pausing a race. It then remembers your selection for future races.
.

My comments are in red above.

Don't waste your time with 50cc unless you really like the grind. Getting 3 stars on 150cc gives them to you for 50cc and 100cc too.

I played and beat the iOS version. Did everything there was (including the secret boss, maxed all spells, completed all the dungeons, side quests, secrets, etc) - fantastic game. Mew Game+ is coming soon, too. I've considered double dipping because it's THAT good.

Quick tip if you're planning to get star rankings in all cups. Getting stars in a higher CC will automatically earn them in all lower levels. IE you'll automatically get trophies for 50cc and 100cc if you start on 150cc (no need to earn them separately).

I just got a switch and immediately put on the plastic screen protector that came with my carrying case. I'm seeing a lot of people recommending a tempered glass screen protector though. Are they really that much better? Since my current screen protector already had 2 large scratches on it out of the box, I'm thinking of replacing it with a glass one. Are they hard to put on? I'm scared of messing up and breaking it/scratching my screen with it :p.

I have the plastic screen protector that came with the official Nintendo case on my Switch. It's worked for me since the dock has made some hairline scratches. I don't feel the need to get a tempered glass screen protector for it.

The tempered glass ones are easy to put on as I have one on my phone. It's easier to put on than the plastic ones.

Yeah, tempered glass will be your better choice.

That's what I bought and it's been flawless. Easy to apply, too.

Got a Switch with Legend of Zelda, ARMS and Mario Kart and already loving it. I'm thinking of getting Splatoon 2. Looks fun but I don't really play multiplayer. How's the single player? Is it worth getting the game just for that?

Splatoon had a pretty robust single player and that remains true for the sequel. If you've ever played Ratchet and Clank, it's similar to that and will last a few hours. Don't discount the multi-player. I'm not a multi-player enthusiast, but Splatoon is one of my exceptions.

Your wish is granted. Pinball FX3 is coming out in December, and according to the FAQ on their site:
Are there any special Nintendo Switch Hardware Features supported by Pinball FX3?
Zen Studios is excited to support unique Nintendo Switch hardware features including HD Rumble and Vertical Monitor Orientation.

I'm going to bite the bullet and finally buy a Switch. I haven't owned Nintendo hardware since the Gamecube.

After the Wii U, I wanted to wait a while and see how successful the Switch would be. I had huge doubts in it, but thankfully that's no longer the case.
I have no problem spending £300 on hardware that I now know will get the support from publishers it needs, and for giving me a healthy choice of games to choose from.
I'm obviously going to start with Zelda and then grab some more games over Christmas.

Will join in with the dissuasion in a week or two.

What's the recommended screen protector? I know on amazon there is that amfilm one but anything sold in stores such as gamestop, target, walmart etc any good? Any to avoid? Only ask cause I'd prefer to grab everything in one place if possible and it will most likely be in a store.

I have just ordered this one ready for when I get my Switch. It seems highly recommended. Not sure if it's available offline though.

Do you like arcade games? Hamster's Arcade Archives series of Neo Geo games are great. They also ported Mario Bros. Arcade along with the other upcoming Nintendo arcade games on eShop.
