Is there another contemporary mainstream artist who's pulled off the double album concept as well as Frank?

Man, can I just get a dope 12-15 track hip hop album.

It's either Kanye's 7-track stuff, which I think is too short, or overly bloated 25-track nonsense.

I suppose I prefer the 7-track though.

The whole kid thing is getting obnoxious, why would you want the world to know about your kids? Not everybody wants paparazzi tracking their kids or in the spot light like khaled does.

Y'all right tho, in my feelings and the MJ song are my favorites, nonstop is a bop too.

This would be true if it wasn't initially fucking difficult to get endless and you didn't have to wait for hours of this nigga painting a warehouse. I still can't officially download it or stream it. Don't boost up frank oceans bullshit and pass it off as "art"

I would say no, but the average joe doesn't even know about endless :(

Endless got something like 24~48 hours of shine before Blonde dropped and overshadowed it. I think most just forgot about it because of Blonde and streaming shenanigans, but it was everywhere for a little bit.

Lol. None of that changes the music though.

It's superior to blonde but why even bother to listen to them as a double album if you can't easily listen to them together (yes I'm that lazy)

I'm really enjoying the album, I'm all about the R&B side. Whereas the rap side, there's issues (some production, some material)

Why are you acting like it takes more than 30 seconds to create a playlist with the tracks you enjoy ?

First disc isn't bad, although it feels very similar to all of Drake's recent rap/trap shit. No growth, same flow. Some interesting themes at times, but I'll get back to the problem there later...

Second disc is a disaster. Monotonous one note "singing" with very little noteworthy melody or hooks. There might be three songs on the second disc that are good, including Nice For What. The end of the album kind of brings something full circle - the fatherhood thing, as well as the "I'm going through shit but god's got me and I'm a good guy" angle. But in light of Pusha's diss, and in light of the fact that this dude admits to only seeing his son one time since October 2017...nah. The entire premise falls apart. It feels fraudulent.

I know everyone wants to come in here with the hot-takes about how much of a garbage album this from Drake but man I fucking love it. There's no real song I flat-out hate on it either. Probably will be one of my favourites of the entire year.

You might have misunderstood what I meant.

I'm not against long albums. Two of my favorite albums ever are long double albums: The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails and In Defense of the Genre by Say Anything. The length doesn't bother me because I think they are nearly flawless from start to finish.

This Drake album has numerous tracks that feel like they should have been cut. I have issues with a 25 track album if only half of them are something I want to listen to more than once.

I don't know if this counts as a double album, sonically they're completely different, they came out at different times and they were sold separately

But if they do count yeah it would be one of the best ever

So early today I ask my cousin, an artist who's hosted her work at galleries and who has extremely non-conventional tastes in basically everything, what she's been listening to lately, expecting her to name yet another random band or artist I've never heard of.

What does she reply with....

Scorpion
.

I've never heard her respond with something so 'popular' before lol. I was like, whaaat....and before I could even finish, sensing the shock in my face, she's like, "well it's just so current and socially trendy that I feel I ought to listen to stay on top of things and also to be able to relate to others at work.".

That's when I knew Drake won lol.

I much prefer longer to shorter. Music is subjective at the end of the day, and I prefer having a larger pool of music to make my own play list version from than have too few tracks and feel short changed. There are of course some rare albums and artists that just get it right first time, and I agree the sweet spot is usually 12-15 tracks.

The thing that gets me about the r&b side is that yes, I realise that it's pretty common to autotune r&b, but goddamn he somehow made the most monotonous autotune singing.

Frank Ocean still the king of using it.

Fucking trippie Redd does it better.

the real king of autotune is travis scott tho

See I like Frank's more subtle use of it. He doesn't just put his whole vocal range through it. Like on Chanel he uses it to create these strange inflections that are really beautiful. And he doesn't just rely on it. He mixes both his real voice and autotune and uses it more like an instrument.

Big KRIT did it better with an actual double album not 2 separate albums

It's a loose association but If Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (individual solo albums) and The 20/20 Experience (released months apart) count this should count.

Just listened to the album earlier. Is it me or almost every track sounded the same? Production was mostly bland and uninspired tbh.

Blond is one of my last decade favorite albums. Though, I've been listening to Endless these past two weeks and I'm starting to consider it's even better than Blond, It's sooooo good and immersive. Also tbe Vocals are incredible here.
