Mario odyssey was a misfire.

A failure would be people hating them. I don't see that. I think they were fine. However, they were very, very easy bosses in a game that was already very easy. So they don't really exist in a space that allows them to be particularly memorable.

Not that memorable but I found that when the showed up, they did register as someone I wanted to beat up and send packing. So they worked as henchmen characters. "Punchable faces".

This is how I felt about them. They looked annoying enough where I was happy when they exploded. Otherwise they were a miss for me. I wouldn't care if they never showed up in another Mario game again.

Thankfully they didn't take anything away from Odyssey.

Count me in the camp that prefers anything to another appearance by the fucking Koopalings.

I don't think they're that great of villains, but I'm glad they were put in the game.

Mario Odyssey is the most ambitious Mario game ever made in terms of adding new characters and worlds to the IP. Not everything was going to be a hit, but it was worth it to get the crazy diversity of the Cap Kingdom, Sand Kingdom, Metro Kingdom, Luncheon Kingdom, and so much more. The NPCs and bosses were all designed to fit their kingdom, with the Broodals fitting the overall wedding motif of the game.

Are the Koopalings better? Yes, but seeing Koopaling fights would have been safe and frankly boring after how oversaturated they have become. Odyssey was not the predictable or safe Mario game, so going with Broodals was for the best.

That said the only reason I would be excited to see them again would be for a Mario + Rabbids 2 for the hilarious meeting between them and the Rabbids.

not every character needs to be a Rosalina. hell, not even Pauline is treated on teh same level as Rosalina was in Galaxy. the broodals are fine

I liked Harriet. If they made the male Broodals more in line with her and less schlubby they could've been great.

I mean... They were alright. But they really have no lasting appeal beyond Super Mario Odyssey.

That said, I'm thankful they didn't recycle old villains like the Koopalings or Bowser Jr for this game.

They were okay. I wish Nintendo would bring back some of the older classic enemies and bosses.

Yes

They're ugly designs, used way too often and were way too easy

They've got some ugly ass 1970s kids show quality about them. They wouldn't be out of place in a Chuck E. Cheese animatronic show from that era either. Just ugly, awkward crap.

They're sort of forgettable especially when they're compared to the arguably more popular Rabbids, who also shared a game with Mario around the same time.

They're not a complete misfire though, I could see them coming back and possibly teaming up with the Koopalings. A complete misfire would be those HORRIBLE baddies from Sonic Lost World. Those guys are a different level of crap.

Thought they were fine to be honest, probably unlikely that we'll see them again. Wouldn't mind one of them showing up in a future mariokart

I don't think they're meant to become Mario staples; they're too closely linked to the themes of hats and weddings of the game, so they're probably one offs.

As for Bowser Jr. I still dislike him as much as I did when he was introduced, if not more considering he keeps appearing much more often than the Koopalings, especially in non-2D (or 2.5D) games.

The broodals are on the same level as Nabbit imo. Fine for the game they are in, but not breakout characters like the Koopa kids or Wario. Mario has plenty of them, and there's nothing wrong with that. A legacy of being in one to two games plus maybe a cameo as a smash brothers trophy is not a bad one.

remember this guy? It's only been a few years, but I barely do
We need Nabbit back, he was great. Dissapointed his only real appearances since NSMBU were Mario Golf and Mario & Sonic.

They were better than rehashing Boom Boom, Pom Pom, or the Koopalings for the umpteenth time.

I liked reading all of their dialogue in an exaggerated movie villain mafioso voice.

I was fine with them. Fresh blood was appreciated, and they may not have been instant favorites, I don't see an inherent problem with them either.

I didn't find them any less exciting than koopalings. But I also hope they don't return in future games.

I liked them. They are a group of minor bosses with a bunch of gimmicks they executed well. I doubt that they will be making regular appearances in mainline games, but they are good fodder for Mario Kart and Mario Party games.

Really didn't like them. They felt very generic and goofy, typical childrens cartoon villains and didn't fit within the Mario universe where the villains tend to be more on the clever and mischievous side.

good theme for the big one, the rest were okay. I liked that the little green one was voiced by OoT Link

Considering their whole thing is based on the "rabbits on the moon" trope, I dunno. They felt like they worked for the game.

I didn't mind them or their designs, they were easy but I appreciated the multiple ways the player had to interrupt their attacks at different phases.

Great to not be the same enemies. Forgetful one shots at best. Perhaps there needs to be a buddy criminal bank heist game with Wario and Waluigi getting help from all the other mushroom kingdom enemies we can see the Broodals, Nabbit and Mouser as well.

I think they could have worked better with some actual animation. Those huge static faces really made them look weird.

As recurring boss fights they were okay and the mech fight was great.

I think they're cool and better than bringing back the Koopalings.

However, at the end of the day, they're just Bowser's minions still.

We need a new Mario villain who is the primary threat of the game

Prob the only thing that sticks out

They're on the level of Rabbids as far as design goes. Atrocious.

We need Nabbit back, he was great. Dissapointed his only real appearances since NSMBU were Mario Golf and Mario & Sonic.

He was in Smash as an Stage Hazard (on a stage which is apparently returning for Ultimate) and had a relatively big part in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. He's definitely on thin ice for future appearances, but I get the feeling the NSMB team likes him quite a bit (he was playable in Super Luigi U after all)

They were the worst element of a near-perfect game, in my opinion. Terrible designs.

Getting to the extra moon and it just being a boss rush of them made me hard quit Odyssey and greatly cool on it, so yeah. Badness.

WTF "better than Koopalings"? Ridiculous. In fact 2 of the Broodals just look like Ludwig & Wendy.

The problem Nintendo has is not being creative with the Koopalings, but they're a better design.

Hell, I don't even think Bowser Jr. is a very good design, but at least they're creative with him sometimes.
But they actually have been creative with the Koopalings. Every game they've been in their fights go differently. The big problem with the Koopalings is that it's too easy to hit them 3 times before they really get a chance to attack, which is a problem the Broodals also had. The Broodal fights themselves were exactly the kind of thing a Koopaling fight would be. I like the Koopalings, too, and at least if they went with the Koopalings Nintendo maybe would have given use 7/8 unique bosses instead of 4. Hell, Bowser Jr should have been the ring bearer. Wendy the flower girl. I'd love to see the Koopalings in 3D.

Bowser Jr's first appearance in Sunshine was really lame, but every game he's been in since then has solidified him as a worthy addition to the Mario universe. I love how they've characterized him as Bowser's general, like a more competent Bowser who gets it done but still bows to his dad. I really like that they made the junior clown car his gimmick. That was a really good idea. Bowser Jr's boss fights in NSMBWii and NSMBU were great.
