Finally made it past the Spider woman at level 41. I neglected upgrading armor as I so used to DS3 and BB. I've attempted CD boss and he just 1 shots me. I guess I gotta save that for later. Went into Sens and I feel underpowered lol. Might just finish up Darkroot Basin since I killed the Hydra earlier.

During my original playthrough on PS3 back around release, I only got up to Dukes Archives and never completed the game because I was really busy at the time, so I feel like this is all so fresh to me as I really don't remember much. One thing I've noticed compared to DS3 and BB is just how much better the level design is. Everything is too open in DS3/BB and every boss is almost in a huge arena, whereas in DS1 there are more unique environmental situations when battling bosses, Zodd (Minitour) boss, for example, is on a narrow bridge with archers attacking you and also the cheap ass Capra Demon which is battled in a closet. Everything makes sense too, like Blighttown being located right next to the Demon Ruins.

I think I might even give DS2 another shot (will be my 4th attempt) after I finish. Hopefully, I can get more use to the delayed input lag and lighter feel of the mechanics.

Like any souls game, upgrading your weapons and armor will give you the most return. Your soul level only really works as a modifier for your current set of equipment (outside of Vitality and Endurance). If your current equipment is under-upgraded, then you won't give or tank as much damage as you think you should.

Also Ceaseless Discharge is actually more of a trick boss fight and can be beaten extraordinarily easily. Strategy below in spoiler tags:

Just run back to the fog gate and stand still. He will slam the ground with his arm and just leave it there. You are free to hit it a few times and he'll just fall of and die. He will not retaliate or do anything. It's not a glitch surprisingly, the boss fight was actually designed like that lol. Fighting it straight up is much much tougher though.

Ceaseless Discharge is ridiculous. I've never seen anyone beat it as an actual fight. The "trick" way seems to be the usual if not only way to beat it. Which is very weird.

He's stupidly easy to beat normally. Just fight him in the open area, bait his arm-slamming attack, dodge to the side, then get a few hits on it. Rinse repeat.

My first time fighting him I got hit by every attack, but had enough time to hit him back and heal up before the next one, and I just outlasted him.

Second time was on a more fragile sorcerer character, and it was much harder. It turned out that it was much easier to avoid being hit by staying very close to him. Mid range was suicide.

Pretty sure I screwed up the cheese and had to fight him the normal way on that small area near the fog gate. It was pretty easy.

I'm pretty sure you can re-attempt the easy kill method, you just have to run back to the alter where the gold hemmed set was to trigger it again.

Funny thing about CD, I always bow to him before going to grab the loot as a way of saying 'sorry you're in pain and for stealing your sisters clothes'. I feel for the guy.

Yeah I'm guess if you feel underpowered for Sen's at SL41 then it's your weapon that is underpowered. On regular upgrade path you would want to be +10 or that by the time you reach Sen's boss since you should have enough large shards by then just from loot to get +10. Since you're at Andre's bonfire, it's easy to ascend your weapon to +6 if you haven't already.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but anyway, going through DS2 atm and I just got to Drangleic Castle, SL 100-110. When should I tackle the DLC? Before the final boss as usual? I really hope to find some good boss fights in there, because so far the game has been pretty underwhelming on that matter

Yes. Do the DLC. It's has excellent bosses, specially Crown of the Iron King.

You're pretty overleveled for the main game so the DLC will provide a better challenge

Personally I'm doing it after the final boss, who I just killed (I didn't realise it was the final boss until the credits rolled). You're not thrown straight into NG+, so you can tie up loose ends after.

I'm really enjoying it, although I agree with you that a lot of the bosses are lacking compared to DS1, and the level design is far less intricate.

Oh yeah, DS2 (thankfully) doesn't dump you into NG+ so you can finish the game now and then do the DLC

Though if you just got to Drangleic Castle you've still got about one fourth of the game to go before the final boss.

Taking my time with the game, but it's clicked for me majorly on this play through and I'm loving It. I'm finally out of Anor Londo, having moaned about the archers a couple of days ago.

Just going back through one or two areas I know I missed, such as Darkroot Garden. I'm laughably overpowered for this area at present. If I recall correctly, after this and the catacombs, I'll need to progress to some of the back half of the game areas I've never seen before, so we shall see how that goes.

They are pretty rough the first time you have to get through them. I've come to appreciate them though. They test several of the skills you've been practicing through the game all in one gauntlet. You have to dodge through a bunch of enemies, roll through projectiles and then parry or kick in a pinch.

I think the best advise for the archers is to ignore the one on the left.

I did finally get through them by rolling right up to the one on the right and spamming combustion until it died. Was testing a few methods before (kicking never worked for me) but that one finally stunlocked him enough for me to take him down.

I also went there after finishing Anor Londo but still had a lot of problems with the area after the artorias gate where there's a bunch of phantoms and people kept invading my game. The area boss fight was kind of joke tho lol, especially with my newly minted +4 furysword.

Thanks! I'll do it then after beating the final boss then, thought you were put straight into NG+ after beating the game ala DS1.

And yeah, I gotta say that I've actually been feeling a bit overleveled for quite some time now, and it's weird because I haven't been farming souls, just following the normal game route. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm using a +10 GS with a pure STR build and everything dies in one hit lol Love it

Power Stance two greatswords for extra damage and ridiculousness.

I powerstanced Large Club and Great Club for much of the game. It's so dumb. I love it.

Hey guys. I'm playing through the game for the first time and I'm still hella early in. I got a couple of questions if y'all could help me out.
  • when will I get to a blacksmith? My broadsword is about to break or whatever and I'm not really feeling any other weapon. I'm in Undead Parish. (I think I fucked up and attacked an NPC in the sewer. pls don't tell me it was her)
  • What's with the fog doors in this game? Sometimes it's not for bosses, which is a first I think. Def not like Bloodborne or DS3 in that regard.
Thanks, guys. I'm enjoying myself but damn, this is probably one of the harder opening areas for me in. Yharnam and the High Wall were far easier for me.

There's a blacksmith underneath Firelink Shrine who can do the basics (in the first area with all the passive hollows). There's also a more useful one at the other end of the Parish. The merchant in the sewer is not a blacksmith, but she is a very useful merchant. You can unaggro her with another NPC after the boss of the Parish (for a fee).

The fog doors section off parts of a level or are for bosses. It's a multiplayer consideration (or rather legacy limitation) I think. If you put your sign down say under the dragon bridge, it will be removed when you walk through the portcullis where the metal boar is.

okay cool. good to know. I think I'll hit up the blacksmith under firelink shrine (didn't even know about that one) cause I'm in need of emergency weapon fixing. Thanks for the reply.

There's one you can get to right away by taking the elevator down below Firelink shrine. Go sort of to the right and down some stairs near where a hollow is chilling out, and there's a blacksmith in a cell there

The undead merchant near the beginning of the Burg also sells a repairbox that you can use to repair stuff yourself

And there's another blacksmith at the end of Parish

There's no way he's gotten to the sewer merchant from the opposite side yet, from the Depths. Not sure which enemy he's talking about though. But it can't be her.

The fog doors in some areas are just there to be area loading triggers. The ones you can't go through with Co-op are there so that the Co-op person must have already gotten to that area before, which makes sense. These are situated at spots where you have to do something in the world in order to get through the doors.

Best catalyst for my mage build? Seems the one Logan drops?

Edit: oh hmm, that halves spell count. What would be next strongest?

okay so i should describe a bit more. I guess it's not a sewer but inside the aquaduct, where there's a giant rat on one side and the npc on the other. I got to her by getting the basement key and headed back toward firelink shrine. I swiped my sword at her instinctly cause she had red eyes Lol. Then she cursed me to high hell and went on and on and on. It was pretty great actually. Lol

oh man.... you did didn't you. That's pretty early to get to her. Yup, go absolve your sins after the Gargoyles fight. She's one of the only places to get Poison Arrows.

Up to O&S. I think I need to change my armor to something that can resist lighting attacks.

I haven't explored Anor Lando in years and I must say that it's probably the most beautiful level in the entire series. I love the brightness of the sun, the massive structures that make you feel like you're an insect in the city built for the gods and just exploring the rooms and getting a taste of the culture. It kinda reminds me of Kings Landing.

Don't give up on the Tin Crystal Catalyst I would switch between that and Logan's situationally. Tin Crystal + Bellowing Ring + Dusk Crown + Dark Bead/Crystal Soul Spear (+ Power Within/RTSR?!) will rip through almost any boss in just a few hits.

Four Kings?.... More like One King :p

Random comment but if anyone on Xbox needs any weapons to finish off knights honour, then let me know. It might take me a day or two to organise a time but I can log on and lend them to you. If you don't mind I'd like them back in case I can help anyone else.

I think it took me about 60 kills with 10 Humanity and Symbol of Avarice for it to drop. Not to bad though. It was about 45 minutes.

Boss Souls weapons are the real pain in the butt.

I feel like I'll never get all the weapons :(

If you're on PS4 I can loan you the ones you need.

Bed of Chaos done.

I ended up having nowhere near as many problems with the fight than I was expecting. Its a pretty shitty boss and it's a damn good job it retains your progress between deaths, but I got it done within 6 or 7 attempts.. this being the first time I'd ever seen it.

Man, I thought the game was so easy coming back to it.

Did pinwheel first, didnt die until I tried queelag after gargoyles as a first time pyro, but nope, she kicked my ass. So I went into undead town and got fucking wreckt probably 10+ times by Capra Demon to put me back in my place lol

Now to start leveling my pyro stuff up. Any can't skip spells?

I fought him this way as I had no idea that there was a way to cheese the fight. He was awkward, but I wouldn't say that he was anywhere close to the toughest fight in the game.

Why am I not seeing summoning signs any where or being summoned? I'm level 25 (just beat moonlight butterfly) I'm running around in wack ass gear except for the drake sword. Never had this problem in souls expect when the games population were empty.

No password set?

Where are you trying to summon/being summoned? Online has been tapering off a bit, I don't see a zillion signs anywhere anymore, but it's still fairly active in my experience (PS4).

Was summoned as a blue sentinel in DS3. There were 3 of us running around and farming. Invader shows up and my two other knuckle heads leave me alone to get killed. This is why I don't play this shit online and stay offline or quit. Lesson learned I guess.
