So, why does it say indefinite in the email and he says it's a 30 say ban? Either way, dude is a complete tool.

Dude should be permabanned, but Twitch doesn't actually give a shit about controlling the hate and vitriol on their site so no surprise he wasn't.

I'm getting sick of these companies pretending to care about these kinds things whilst lining their pockets through scum like this.

Yes I am serious. Lighten up dude

No, I won't lighten up.

If you think there is humor in saying "homophobic slurs got me through a lot as a kid" when the person actually says them to insult people, you are wrong.

You ask "how can you think he's serious" yet he actually used the damn word and specifically states that he thinks it should be okay to say.

And you think that's a joke? Nope.

To him it's just synonym for "idiot", not that big of a deal to call someone an idiot.

Yeah if it offends another group of people for different reasons then you should be respectful and not say the word but you're being way too hostile here

I really don't think he is an asshole, just ignorant.

He's wilfully ignorant though. People have made it clear to him why the word he's using is a slur, it's his decision not to listen. He doesn't live under a rock. He has access to Google.

He's not a twelve year old on the school playground.

How exactly should they react to homophobia?

What level of anger do you find acceptable? At what point does being angry about homophobic comments become too much, to you?

Probably because he doesn't think of it as a homosexual slur and it's off-putting for strangers to tell you what you meant when it's not when you meant, pretty natural response to get defensive.

A lot of people grew up using the word and pretty much stopped using it after learning it was a hurtful term. I don't think they had to take their income in mind, just other people's feelings. But hey.
I think a lot of people stopped using it because it can get you in trouble, those same people aren't suddenly caring about people's feelings.

He's been told not to say the word any more or he risks getting banned from Twitch.

He continues to throw it around 10+ times defending how it's not a bad word.

The dude clearly values the word over financial stability.

Do you apply that logic to all slurs? Seems weird to get defensive when it's an individual being obstinate because they want to deny or change the meaning of a word.

He isnt being homophobic though, you guys are treating him like he is being homophobic when in reality he is just perpetuating a homophobic slur. The latter is nowhere near is bad as the former, not to say that either is okay

So saying the n-word because I think it means something it doesn't is just ignorant, nothing to get angry about according to you?

Get real.

That Update is great.

In the end the thing that hurt his income the most was that insincere tweet about how shitty a person he is(but hes stopping for the money) which caused people to notice how big of a piece of shit he actually was, which then caused Twitch to ban him thus hurting his income even more.

See, ultimately, punitive action like that ban (and hopefully more/longer bans) is far more satisfying and meaningful to me than whatever hollow apology he could muster up. He is literally forced to deal with the consequences and this will shape his behavior going forward. This is definitely a win in my book.

In a world where morality is solely dictated by how it affects one's income potential, it seems to be the only thing that works.

Things are funny if they subvert your expectations. Not just because "it's so random". Don't be rude

Calling someone else rude. Jesus Christ, get some perspective.

He is though. Saying a word that you know is offensive to homosexuals and continue to use it despite that, it doesn't matter how you used the word as a kid.

It's much better for the person to realize they're wrong than to have them and their fans think there's some sort of tone policing going on at Twitch. The amount of whining I see about Twitch policing their streamers is high as it is, and they do a horrible job.

Yes, he will stop saying it, but because it affects his bottom line, not because it's the right thing to do.

The idea that a strongly insulting slur, historically and currently still associated with gay people being mocked, assaulted and murdered due to their sexuality, can simply mean "idiot" with no further connotations, is itself pretty offensive.

You don't get to magically decide on your own meanings of words, sorry. Words have meanings and connotations. If one uses "faggot" as a synonym for "idiot", they are, by definition, treating gay people as the reference point for stupidity, and doing so in the most insulting way possible.

...And some people are content with that, sure. But they shouldn't expect others to be.

Fake Edit: He got banned while I was writing this, never mind lol...
