I'm not sure if the OP cares or doesn't care and was just having a laugh or...? It's not just that nobody cares, but we shouldn't feel comfortable slamming a woman for choosing to wear what is a regular outfit. It's not like it says "I really don't care. Do U?"

Not only is this pointless to focus on, but focusing any attention on it at all insults the attention that should be on real travesties.

I really don't think it's worth pointing out every time the right acts hypocritical. We will be here a while and wasting a lot of time.

True.

Focus is important if you want to get at the issues at hand in confronting corporate fascism, institutional racism, tacit misogynistic politicians, etc.

I just recently watched a series of interviews and documentaries on past leaders of civil rights and resistance against some of the more horrific aspects of the 20th century. MLK and Muhammad Ali speaking about the Vietnam War, Malcolm X 'Any Means Necessary' speech, RFK and the 'Ripple of Hope'.

And it just saddens me that we seem to be moving so backwards as a nation, the rise of Trump and things like the horrific Citizens United USSC ruling, the lack of real dialogue on law enforcement corruption and turning our country into a prison/police state. It's a time filled with truly momentous issues and a trajectory that is spinning into chaos and hatred.

But a dress? Sigh.

This doesn't have to be a strictly political forum. We can critique fashion here, or is any thread that is not talking about politics no longer allowed? Just shut down the whole gaming side.

She certainly has no problem profiting off his vileness.

Honestly, this is probably true of most people who make a living on TV or the internet. Lot's a people profiting from his vileness, even when expressing their pure hatred for the man. It's one of the unfortunate realities of having this dipshit as our president, as we can't exactly ignore what he says.

While I'd usually argue that talking about the fashion of politicians and politicians' families is inherently political ("look at what she wore in front of the Queen of Jordan, what kind of political message does that send?"), with this administration it's a whole different ballgame. When discussing this administration, talking about things like "look at the subjectively classless dress worn by the Vice President's wife" is part of the normalization of the horrific cultural, social, and geo-political travesties actually being committed. Talking about dresses while children are still locked in cages is like criticizing the flavor of icing Marie Antoinette chose for her cake.

When it comes to this administration, focusing on fashion faux pas in itself gives normalization and legitimacy to asinine things the administration continues to do. If we have the time and the outrage to complain about the fashion of an outfit (Melania's "I don't care" jacket being an exception to the rule, since it was the written message itself that garnered criticism), then logically the other things the administration is doing "can't be that bad" since we're talking about Vice Presidential spousal fashion of all things. But, as we know, what this administration says and does really are that bad.

I mostly agree. I say 'mostly' because I think it's fine to say something about it as a passing comment. Making a thread about it is too much though.

I'm fine with people pointing out the hypocrisy in the GOP for criticizing Michelle over dumb shit, but I'd rather not then turn around and criticize another lady over dumb shit.

The dress is fine.

What a silly thing for people to seize onto. Seems kind of desperate if I'm honest.
