The bundle includes 2 x Base Station 2.0 and 2 x Controllers.

It has taken HTC a while to release a full kit with everything you need to jump straight into virtual reality for their new Vive Pro VR headset. But this week the company has announced the HTC Vive Pro Full Kit which includes everything you need to create a massive 10m x 10m virtual reality play space, over three times larger than the original HTC Vive VR headset.

As you would imagine the HTC Vive Pro Full Kit includes the Vive Pro Headset complete with high resolution certified HMD and headphones, together with 2 x SteamVR Base Station 2.0 and 2 x new HTC Vive Pro Controllers offering full support for Steam VR 2.0 Room-scale tracking.

The new HTC Vive Pro Full Kit is now available to preorder priced at $1,700 or roughly €1,468 or £1,300.

I've set up my Vive in my backyard before and would really appreciate a 10M x 10M play area, that is an insane amount of space.

It's getting pretty close to artificial locomotion becoming completely obsolete.

$1,700 for what many deem is a sidegrade from the original Vive released in 2016.

Lmao if I was earning a salary in dollars 1700 bucks would be nothing. In my country you pay the local equivalent of 1700 bucks for just a PS4 (compared to how much you earn I mean)

As someone who loves VR and develops for VR... this is absolutely absurd... haha.
I have no idea what HTC's market strategy is with all this.

Sheesh, most people aren't going to have 10 x 10 m play space so Lighthouse 2.0 won't be a big deal, especially not $900 worth since isn't the headset $800? Doesn't sound like it comes with Knuckle controllers either.

If Apple made a VR system, I don't think it would even go for this price.

Even with the bundle it seems like a much better deal to get a regular Vive and then the solo Vive Pro, as the regular Vive comes with the requirements anyway and you get a cheap regular Vive headset as well

It's such a weird product; no difference from the current Vive headset except a higher resolution (same as the much cheaper Samsung Odyssey), a second super low resolution front-camera nobody will use, and the new sensors allowing for much larger "warehouse scale" play. Heck, the new sensors and base stations are supposed to be cheaper to manufacture, not more expensive.

They could have at least given it better lenses (Oculus Go has amazing next-gen lenses with a large sweet spot and minimal ring-reflections), but nope. At least we have a true next-gen headset on the way, Pimax 8K with its 170 to 200 degree FOV.

Yeah, but you'd lose out on the warehouse-scale play...

Really wish Valve would dump HTC as their manufacturing partner, they fucking suck.

When they say Pro they must literally mean they expect businesses to buy these only with a price like that. I'm sure it's plenty reasonable for an arcade. But there no way I as a consumer can justify double the price of a Vive on launch for a higher res screen and new base stations that should be cheaper to manufacture now.

Wait, what? It's available for order right now at $1098.
https://www.vive.com/us/product/vive-pro-starter-kit/

Not that this is particularly reasonable. A Vive Pro headset is $800, and a complete original Vive set is $500. For the price of the starter kit + $200, you could have a spare headset.
That's the old base stations, not the new 2.0 ones with warehouse scale. For that you gotta pay $1400

They really should look at making the current version much cheaper instead. I love VR but no way I would pay this kinda price, the original's price is still far too high.

I adore my PSVR and VR in general, and as much as I hate to echo the frequent "concerns" people have towards VR; shouldn't companies be working on getting the price down rather than the experience nominally better for a tiny fraction of users? Like what's the business model here?

EDIT: Jesus, the Canadian equivalent is $2,246. And I thought my $550 PSVR launch bundle was expensive.

HTC are pretty much done as a company and have resoundingly abandoned the consumer space for what little time they have left, I would strongly advise against anyone investing in the Vive ecosphere at this point. The biggest issue is they have effectively walked away from support and warranty obligations WRT Vive.

Skinning VR enthusiasts some more since they're not finding many new consumers? I mean, a much cheaper VR option on a console with 80 millions or so userbase took over a year to ship 2 million units. For reference, the Kinect 1.0 sold over 8 million units in 2 months on a console with a smaller installbase. They should really try and make a compelling piece of tech at an impulse buy price range instead of these super pro products, but oh well.

Admittedly though, Kinect cost less than half as much as a VR headset and had a gargantuan marketing push. I have faith in high-end consumer VR, I just don't think moves like this are the right direction.

Which is why they should concentrate on delivering a unit at a lower price, even at the price of fidelity. Wii, Kinect, etc. did compromise a lot in tech, and ended up selling gangbusters thanks to the gimmick + low price combo. VR is in a similar scenario, except you need to spend 600-2000 Euros (based on which range you're going for) to use it properly instead of those other products where with 300 you could have console, peripheral, etc.. Price matters. And while there's some streamer favourites in VR, none of the biggest games of 2017-2018 are VR, so it doesn't feel like people are missing out on that much. The mindshare isn't there, and it's hard to justify such a huge buy when that's missing.

I used a pro recently, and I did kind of wish it was paired with the newer lighthouses, as the 'wobble' on the headset and controllers was perceptible, but jesus. That price.

Holy hell! I've been holding off on PC VR waiting to see how VIVE Pro priced and I guess I'm either going to keep waiting for better prices or jump on original instead.
