Oh shit the Courier returns. I'm an Apple ecosystem but I wanted one of these baaaaad when that concept came out, and this thing looks sick as hell. Before getting a Cintiq all of my drawing tablets were bitchin little Windows hybrids. Depending on price I would definitely be interested in one...

Two more renders by the same person (David Breyer) showing 'Laptop Mode' and 'Gaming Mode':

I'm very into the idea of a phonelike form factor that can double its screen size. Might be enough to make me part with my treasured iPhone 6+. Gimme that real estate.

Not interested. The Surface Pro 4 was awful for me. Screen flicker, battery expanded, not digital artist friendly despite MS's own claims.

I'm very curious about the hinge and if it has any locking mechanisms to keep it in various positions like flat or laptop mode.

The move to this kind of design for smartphones is what I've been waiting for. Scared to think what it will cost though.

If this can be used as a phone, is x86 and has usb-c it will be what I have been waiting for.

Love my Surface Pro 4 but I also had some screen flicker problems. Went to a Microsoft Store (even though I bought it elsewhere) and they replaced it without any hassle there and then. Fantastic customer service.

So looking at this, it's not a folding screen right? Just looks like two screens that meet up in the middle? It's cool I guess, but I'm not sure how much that gap will bother me when it's laid flat.

The Courier is at the top of my vaporware list. I'd be day one this. Light versions of Adobe Creative Cloud apps taylor made for this would be off the chain as well.

There's no fucking way this runs Steam, people. Microsoft isn't doing this to sell hardware at a small premium, they want that sweet app store money.

I don't get it. Whats the point? Being able to fit it inside of your pocket? Am I overthinking this?

Design wise it looks hot, let's hope the software lives up to the design..

I've already been burnt by windows phones once, so I'll take a back seat this time.

I'm interested in your experience with it as a digital artist. Can you elaborate?
Mainly it lacks features that a digital artist at least for me finds as basic requirements. For me I set the undo function on the side button of a pen because it's quick and I can get back into drawing. MS switched from Wacom's drivers to NTrig drivers. The problem is that NTrig's driver lacks features that other drivers have. You can't set any function to the Surface Pen's side button, it'll only right-click. Same goes for that stupid eraser button it only can open apps when pressed. So when MS totes their Surface line is great for artists I can only imagine they say that when their heads are so far up their asses, because I know artists that complained about this.

I since then I got a MobileStudio Pro last Christmas and I haven't looked back. It's the best tablet I have ever use, Wacom did an amazing job with this one.

Software delays, lack of purpose means Microsoft's "Andromeda" may never arrive

Based partially on: https://www.zdnet.com/article/dont-expect-microsofts-andromeda-this-year-or-maybe-ever/

Don't expect Microsoft's Andromeda this year... or maybe ever

Microsoft's rumored portable Surface 'Andromeda' device and the AndromedaOS software that would power it aren't looking like 2018 deliverables. It's back to the drawing board, sources say.

But while the software issues are important, Foley says that there's a more fundamental concern hanging over Andromeda: it doesn't have a purpose. Even if the software were all in place, there's no point in bringing a product to market that nobody wants to buy, and at the moment, there's no obvious reason for anyone to want to buy an Andromeda. As a phone-sized gadget, it needs phone-sized software, and Microsoft's problem in this space is, and always has been, a lack of software support. Third-party support for Microsoft's platform was always lacking, and in the later stages of Windows 10 Mobile's life, even first-party support was lacking.

I really dislike the insular crowd of reporters on Microsoft and that they only measure success based on mass market appeal. Look at this thread, there's plenty of interest. Does that translate to mass market success? No, but that's better than just being boring. Most of them hated Windows 8 as well, but it was still when the Surface made the most sense in terms of a large tablet with the UI tailored for it. But they love Microsoft to continue to be predictable and churn out the same thing year over year.

=/

I really hope this does release, cause it would replace my phone, and if I can stream my one x to this and use my controller via bluetooth I'd be all over this.

especially if this has word and excell.

I would use this thing all the damn time

I didn't think MS could do something to make me think, "yeah, I'd be fine with the Windows App Store" but here we are. Just get a proper Youtube app this time.

Screen flickering is a known issue that you can get replaced in store or through a call center. Even if your warranty is expired. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
When we say screen flicker, are we talking the bottom few rows of pixels getting all jumbled with stuff from the top of the screen? Because I have that and while it's not the end of the world, it is quite annoying. Had a Surface 4 since 2015, kinda assumed I just have to live with it.

Slightly off topic but as a former Windows phone 8 Stan, Windows phone 10 really took a step back in UX and stability, hope this doesnt suffer the same fate.
