He tweeted this out, then deleted it and tweeted it again without the racist picture. I remember when this dude was mega popular with libertarians and was considered a serious presidential candidate by many. He's fallen quite far since then.

He hasn't fallen he and his son and brand of right wing politics has always been racist. This is nothing new especially for Ron.

I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries the first time I was old enough to vote for a Presidential primary. That was ~10 years ago, and I'm really happy I've learned more about politics and economics since then... and certainly glad he was never elected.

But he did not disavow their support. "If they want to endorse me, they're endorsing what I do or say — it has nothing to do with endorsing what they say," said Mr. Paul, who is now running strong in Iowa for the Republican nomination.

lol I remember back in the 2007-2008 day when people on NeoGAF refused to believe that Ron Paul was horribly racist and got outraged by sharing that TNR article (the one good thing Jamie Kirchick has ever written) documenting the contents of his newsletters

I don't think any of those people are around here, but anyway, only the very stupidest people alive would be in any way surprised by this in 2018

And the press is focusing on the newsletters that went out under his name in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were called the Ron Paul's Political Report, Ron Paul's Freedom Report, the Ron Paul Survival Report and the Ron Paul Investment Letter.

There is no doubt that the newsletters contained utterly racist statements.

Some choice quotes:


  1. "Given the inefficiencies of what DC laughingly calls the criminal justice system, I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

    "We are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational."

    After the Los Angeles riots, one article in a newsletter claimed, "Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks."

    One referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as "the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours" and who "seduced underage girls and boys."

    Another referred to Barbara Jordan, a civil rights activist and congresswoman as "Barbara Morondon," the "archetypical half-educated victimologist."
Other newsletters had strange conspiracy theories about homosexuals, the CIA, and AIDS.

Also, he's been a racist for literally decades (see the Ron Paul Survival Report), so this should be a surprise to absolutely nobody.
