Edit: Feel free to recommend stuff outside of Netflix, including Hulu, Amazon Prime and YouTube

Simple enough question. I know Netflix is a revolving door that can include such classics like The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby. But it's also a place where lots of original horror movies and series gets added....much of it being utter garbage.

That's where you come in. I want some good new spooks to check out. This applies to Amazon as well as YouTube (I already know about Marble Hornets, Everyman Hybrid and Containment). I would mainly want the slow burn style of existential horror like The Witch (and more recently, Hereditary), but I'm fine with any zombies or other ghoulie ghouls if it's worth checking out.

Murder mysteries and documentaries are also acceptable, so long as they nail that unsettling, creeping dread.

Will also say Ritual.
Not great, but I enjoyed parts of it I won't spoil.

Go to Amazon and rent Spring and The Endless. Both by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (they also star in The Endless). The Endless just came out last week on demand and has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes out of 91 reviews (Spring had an 88%). The less you know about either film, the better. Spring is a body horror romance if that sways you.

A Dark Song, Raw, The Devil's Candy. None of which are new but worth a watch.

You can watch the Ritual. I wasnt the biggest fan of it, it dragged on at parts and the payoff wasnt exactly worth the buildup but there was some moments that were really good.

My brother and I watched The Ritual and Open House a couple of weeks ago. The Ritual was a decent modern horror film. But
as for Open House, just stay far, far away from it.

I watched the Japanese film Tag on US Netflix last night. That one is fucking nuts and worth the ride.

The Ritual is a nicely serviceable 6/10. It lays the cliches on thiiiiick, but the atmosphere is nice and it's a competently executed good time with a cool monster.

The Wailing is excellent, it's a Korean horror movie that came out a couple years ago.

Also give Baskin a try if you haven't, it has a great atmosphere.

Before I wake is another one I'd give a try, it was a little creepy at times.

Then there's the Babadook if you haven't already.

Oh shit, The Wailing is on Netflix. Watch that before anything else. Second best horror movie of the 21st century.

Cargo and 1922, but those are more dramas in horror trappings. The performances by Martin Freeman and Thomas Jane carry both movies and they are fantastic.

But remember, they aren't really horror in the traditional sense. Don't go in expecting to really be scared or anything. More Disturbed.

I kinda liked Jeruzalem.

Also loved The Nightmare, especially because I get sleep paralysis all the time.

I've watched Veronica, the Ritual, 1922 which are labelled as Netflix originals. All 3 are really good and highly recommended.

I haven't watched the Wailing. Going to add that to My List.

Do you guys have any other recommendations?

Calibre just released on Netflix last week. It's more of a thriller than a horror but really intense and suspenseful in parts.

It's not on Netflix, but I mostly enjoyed Outcast as well. It's more of a smothering, oppressive horror though so it depends on what you're looking for.

Never heard of this, is it really that good?

Yeah. It requires quite a bit of legwork on the viewer's end to interpret the events, but its so bugfuck crazy and beautifully horrifying that I think you'll have a good time with it even if the plot might not make sense at first. Calling it the Korean "Exorcist" feels kinda trite, but that's what it most reminded me of at times, all though it bounces around a tonal tightrope quite a bit juggling some physical comedy at first, but it ends up being an incredibly haunting parable by the end of it.

Hell House LLC was decent for a found footage horror film. Good atmosphere and build up. Laughable ending though.

Crap, I've seen everything posted so far.

Netflix needs to up their horror game. More...we want more!
