Yankees blew way too many chances tonight, they were asking for something like this to happen.

I mean, 5 teams that are almost assuredly better in the AL. Conceivable they think the Brewers, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Dodgers are going to be stronger teams over the long haul. I personally think that is a dumb opinion, but it's at least defensible. It is the ESPN power rankings, why y'all so routinely salty about them week to week? If they just listed teams with the best records, there's nothing to talk about.

Huh, so fangraphs are predicting that all three NL division leaders are going to play under .500 baseball for the remainder of the season?

"In the process of assembling that improbable career line, Astudillo has produced some of the most strikeout-averse single seasons on record. The Baseball Prospectus database includes minor league records from MLB Advanced Media dating back to 2005 and incorporating almost 42,000 individual player-seasons of at least 100 plate appearances (counting 100-PA stints at multiple levels in the same season as discrete entities). Ranked by the lowest strikeout rates relative to the league, five of the top 11 entries and eight of the top 30 belong to Astudillo alone."

Braves have 29 games left against the Yankees (2), Red Sox (3), Brewers (7), Dbacks (7), Dodgers (4), and Nationals (6). This is out of 79 games total. Toughest competition up to this point: Nationals (9), Cubs (7), Phillies (9), Red Sox (3). Brewers schedule isn't that hard, but I'm guessing the consensus is everyone still thinks the Brewers suck and got lucky, so the Cubs will overtake them. Ditto for the Dbacks vs Dodgers. And people still overrating the Nationals like crazy, I am going to be shocked if the Nationals get 85 wins. I don't think anything sets them apart from the Cardinals, Phillies, or even the Pirates. I guess their pitching, but their hitting sucks. I'd peg the Nationals closer to 82 wins and the Braves at 90+ wins.

basically the braves have to go 41-38 the rest of the way to hit 90 wins. if they can go 13-16 or so in those 29 games, they should be able to beat up enough on the crappy teams to get there.

I keep waiting for the Nats to start their charge, but it keeps not happening and now Im not so sure that it will without some major deadline moves.

The narrative with the NL Central is that the Brewers are beating up on weak teams and the Cubs are under achieving. I just have to wonder how long you have to under achieve before you're no longer under achieving and that's just who you are.

I also bet a lot of people are, rightfully, remembering the Brewer's somewhat recent history where they tend to look really good in the first half of the year and then after the All-Star break they become a different team who falls apart

i don't know, but it's definitely longer than 80 games. the brewers could win the division this year, and barring an absurd offseason, would still not be the favorites going into next season. it's not an insult to the brewers, the cubs just have way more talent on the roster. there isn't really any narrative other than that. nobody is saying the brewers are incapable of winning the division, just that it's obvious why the cubs are the better bet.

yeah i see why people still keeping waiting for the cubs to show up. plus, as a brewer fan, it seems like the brewers look at their jerseys every all star break and go "oh wait, we're milwaukee" and decide to suck again

it's not like the brewers even need to win the division to be excited. just getting a wild card spot gives you a legit shot to win it all. winning the division is obviously better, but just getting into the playoffs always feels like a big thing to me.
