Don't take it from me, This is from the New York Times. This tradition of racism is a matter of routine in Australia.

For a cricketing superpower, Australians have a poor on-field reputation. Mutually respectful competition has been replaced by ugly belligerence. Derogatory, threatening or racist remarks are not only a routine part of the Australian game, they have become a form of psychological warfare used to establish dominance over opponents.

The practice is called "sledging," apparently drawn from the phrase, "as subtle as a sledgehammer."

Many Australians are perversely proud of their reputation as the sledging kings of the cricket world.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/26/opinion/the-dark-side-of-australias-national-sport.html

Usman Khawaja, who was born in Pakistan, had moved to Australia with his family when he was five-years-old. Right from his early days, he faced racial sledging — being called a "F---ing curry muncher" — while he was trying to find his feet in cricket.

It is for this reason why so many of my friends, most of whom were born outside Australia, didn't support Australia in sporting contests. I didn't either," Khawaja was quoted as saying.

I would not be surprised if they were racist towards the Filipinos. Not when its the Australians. If the Filipinos said this is the case, they are almost certainly telling the truth. Australian athletes have a rep for being deeply ugly, vile people.

"It's absolutely unacceptable but the reality is that (Daniel) Kickert [was] hitting our players during the warm-ups. He hit Carl Bryan Cruz, he hit Matthew Wright, Pogoy and he hit Calvin Abueva during the warm-ups," recalled Reyes.

I cannot visualize how this could happen without devolving into chaos almost immediately.

I think because brown folk tend to experience it a lot from white people and they can't start throwing punches every time off the bad, especially in a public environment - they just have to stomach it/try to ignore it. I'm sure as the game started and progressed the Australian team were racially taunting them up and down the court.

At some point, you just can't take anymore.

I don't think it's all that fair to take the culture of the Australian cricket team and think the same applies to all our other national sports teams.

There's also articles and mentions that this has been changing over the years in sports, but that didn't fit that poster's agenda unfortunately. Our cricket team is definitely still the worst of the lot.

There's zero evidence this incident had anything to do with racist comments, but let's just assume it does...

These days if any of those style of comments are made by Australian sports people they get crucified by the media and are generally banned for several matches/games and fined.

Way to jump to conclusions about racist Australian players with no proof to try and place the blame.
Also that visual of the Australian player getting set on by a group of people is inexcusable. Mistakes on all sides and people need to be banned for acting so unprofessional.

The elbow by the aussie was a disgraceful escalation.

Also, get the fuck out of here with the racism conjecture based on some dude's hearsay about a Facebook comment he can't find now.

Doesn't even have to be the players. Remember the fucking mess surrounding Adam Goodes a couple of years ago? That was absolutely shameful.

User Warned: Needless Hostility.
Australian athletes are infamous for vile trash talk and racism. It's called sledging. They don't think of it as wrong, just as part of the game. Psychological warfare.

There is a racism against Asian athletes in basketball that translate to how they are treated. How hard they fouled and hit. I would say its likely, there were racist taunts and overly rough behavior considering who the opponents are.

Just no, fuck off with this shit. I would say it's likely your post is full of generalising shit, but it's not likely, it's the fucking reality. Phillipino players straight up wanted to brawl. Until you have proof there was racist trash talk, you should STFU.

Edit: I'm not a professional athlete by any means but I've played in multiple codes in Australia and I can tell you, those communities have 0 tolerance for racial sledging during games, at local level. It was a problem 30 years ago, but not now. Definitely not at the professional level. To suggest that was the impetus here just shows your agenda, trying to shift blame and labelling them all racists. Thon Maker is fucking black for crying out loud, you think they're gonna be out there calling them monkeys?? Fuck your shit post, how are you not banned yet?

People jumping to it being Australia's fault and citing racism? The hell is wrong with some of you?

The Philippines players threw like 3 coward punches from behind. Inexcusable.

Check out some of the crap their players and captain post on social media too, bunch of backwards ass morons.

This is what happened.

The day before the game, the Australian team had practice in the arena. security cameras showed that they were removing the decals in the court, damaging the floor.
Philippine officials felt disrespected.
Australia apologized before the game.
Kickert (the one who threw the elbow) was hitting 4 players from the Philippines during warm ups (I mean who does that??)
Goulding (the one who fell down and the reason for Kicker elbow) was trash talking ALL Philippine players that's going to take a free throw and the refs letting it go.
Brawl happened.
Phil coach in an interview said Aussie players called them monkeys.

No. Fuck off with this shit.
The bolded, there is no evidence for. It's just what the Phillipines team coach has said.

It's literally he said, she said at this point. Posts like your acting as facts exist only to paint the Aussies in a bad light. Check your facts.

All that aside, none of it warrants haymakers on a dude being moved by security, throwing chairs or a 6 v 1 against a man on the ground in a game of basketball.

Well, there's a lot of cameras and most of the time warms ups are also recorded so maybe chilll the FUCK down with your post and wait for evidence. I stated what happened based on interviews.

I'm not condoning the other stuff like throwing chairs doing a sucker punch. My point is when you're already up by 30 fucking points and you're still trying psych the other team, and disrespecting the host country by damaging their court, I don't know maybe they thought enough is enough? That elbow by Kickert was the last straw.

Filipinos are know to be hospitable. Very generous host, but if you shit on them, you better know how take it.

Don't tell me to fuck off because I'm not being aggressive with my first post. I'm not here to fight.

No.

don't come in here and post "this is what happened" when there is no evidence to back it. I don't need to wait for videos to tell you you're wrong. You need to wait for videos to tell me it happened.

How about the cheap elbow on the drive before Kickerts elbow? It's really easy to paint the Aussies as the bad guys here when you conveniently exclude key events leading up to it that we all saw during the game.

If they can't take fair trash talk, then competitive sports isn't their place. Barbaric responses like that aren't justified if you're being made fun of on court. They embarrassed themselves completely on the world stage.

So first you claim a bunch of unconfirmed hearsay is fact, then you imply the Australians deserved the violence they experienced. Yikes. Also, FYI, being a "generous" and "hospitable" host doesn't justify such aggression. I'm great friends with Filipino people who would never consider assaulting people like this, so get out of here with your generalised statements and racism.

Aussie player that threw the elbow needs banning. The entire philippine team needs banning for what came after. Australian team were defending themselves but the philippine team we're throwing sucker punches and stomping on guys without regard.

They'll get medals from the President

Sad that this is possible.

All their moves were so cowardly, just mobbing a guy on the ground, throwing punches at people who aren't looking, throwing chairs at the Australian's heads. Everyone involved on the Philippines side should be banned for years.

The Philippines team taking a team selfie in the aftermath, looking proud at what they did is perhaps the most disgusting part of this.
I guess this is the image they want to spread around the world.
