As a hay fever sufferer, I'm loving this hot spell, as the grass pollen levels are really low for the season. Everyone is stressing about how uncomfortable they are, but I've not been this comfortable in the summer in years!
I love the hot weather, although my hay fever has been pretty bad for the last couple of weeks. Although, things seem to have improved in the last two days as most of the grass is going yellow and drying out by me.

Its settled in the last few days but I've found this grass season to be one of the worst - almost everyday was listed as Very High in London

I've lived in PR and Florida. You cannot live in either of these without an AC. I do not care about the power bill just keep the temp at 70

There are no windows in my house that those work in. Most people have casement windows.

The one I got is a rated for energy, tho they go up to a***. Frankly I'll pay a few quid in electricity for a few weeks to keep my kid cool.

They sell casement window ACs idk if the would work in your situation.

The few that I can find would not.

Long term if I decide to i'll fit proper units through the wall. Not that big a job and not that expensive.

Ehat makes portable ones less efficient than the ones that sit in the window?

Welcome to the civilised world.

You haven't lived until you've got the units which double as heaters. Though I suppose every house in the UK has central heating anyway, so it may be unnecessary.

My room has been reaching 32c lately and it has been making me feel so ill, plus I suffer with clinical depression and honestly my mental health always suffers during summer so I finally forked over the £300 and bought myself a portable air conditioning unit and my god, it's heaven! I'm currently sitting in my ice cold bedroom freezing my ass off, I should lower the cooling but I'm just sadistically enjoying the cold for a little while first.

I can't stress how much better a proper AC unit is vs an air cooler, or a traditional fan, even those with compartments for water and ice, this is just on another level and worth every penny. I am so excited for night time so I can maybe get a good nights sleep, which hasn't been possible for so long.

Nice. Is this a simple plug in and switch on? Or is there more involved? I want one!

It was easy, basically plug the hose into a ring, plug the ring into the AC. Attach two pegs to hold the cable, plug into the wall and drop the hose out of the window and you're away. Less than 30 minutes total.

Well day 1 and ours has done the job. Babies room is now at 23c (unit removed as she went to bed), this time last night it was 27c in there.

The idea that 32 degrees makes you go buy an AC makes me laugh. That's probably a below average day here in summer.

Of course if it gets below 10 here I'm pulling out the scarves and gloves and everything.

why am I sitting in my non-airconditioned office seriously contemplating an overpriced dyson fan?

Its been so humid the last few nights I think I'm going doolally with lack of sleep and dehydration. I just want something quiet I can leave on at night.

I wish everyone used C instead of F >_> always have to google it right away lol.

Anyway, this is just so freaking hot. Without my Air Con, I'd be dead.

I have an old 4ft tall fan that's good enough on the first setting but on the third feels like it's spitting out an arctic hurricane.

Looks like another 2 weeks of heat at least. AC still not worth it?

Next couple of years I'm getting proper wall mounted AC for the living room and our bedroom. £1k should be enough. Portable can't easily go upstairs at night as it's heavy, and I'm not comfortable leaving windows open at night either

Yesterday was too much for me so I ordered one last night. There were some nicer reviewed ones, quieter, but I needed one immediately, and it is meant to be arriving tomorrow. Can't wait. Wish I had ordered one earlier in the week.
