Making a thread since it's Philly and it me:

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/w...ter-city-philadelphia-20180703.html?mobi=true

Water gushing from a break in a 48-inch main in the area of Sansom and Juniper Streets flooded several blocks in Center City Tuesday morning.

The flooding was reported about 4 a.m. and by 6 a.m. crews were beginning to reduce the flow. The immediate cause is unknown.

Streets that flooded were in an area bound by South Broad Street and 10th Street between Walnut and Chestnut Streets.

This is downtown Philly and what in the world

Yikes it's pretty bad. I avoided it because I live in Rittenhouse but I have a whole bunch of friends in the middle of it.

Yikes, I hope it does not do too much damage and people get power back today. I love Philly and take an annual trip with my wife every year in August so it sucks to see City Center like this.

Crap I was going to visit there for the first time today. That's bad timing. Is it still traversable?

Shout-out to whoever did that- it's been like 1000 degrees the last few days in the city, we need a larger-scale pool to clear off in
Alternate take: Man, someone got really jealous of Dillworth Park's fountain and decided they needed to one-up it

Its been up 90 these couple of days and I trying not to shower myself every 30 mins at works. Fuck summer.

Also the freaking humidity after all these water heat up is gonna kill me. I think I just call out now and stay home for the day lol.

Haha, we had a similar size water main break in downtown Minneapolis a few years ago, a pipe that size will flood the streets pretty quickly. Once they get the valves shut down the flooding will stop at least, but now some Philly public works guys are gonna be working overtime on a holiday to get that fixed.

Holy crap. 48 inch pipe? That's 1.2m wide. No wonder so much water is gushing out of it.

I'm an engineering inspector, and 48 inch pipes bursting is something I've yet to see. I've seen a single 10" line flood the street, basement of houses nearby, and a factory floor once. Just 10" did that.

So what you're saying is that we're ahead of the curb and a visionary utopian city that others wish they could be.
