There will be no more Krypton on Syfy. The network has opted not to renew the Superman origin drama series, and the recent Season 2 finale August 14 was a series finale on the NBCUniversal cable network. With the mothership series getting canceled, Syfy also won't be proceeding with the previously announced Lobo spinoff, which had been in development.

I hear Krypton producer Warner Horizon Scripted Television is in conversations with other outlets, exploring ways to continue the franchise based on DC characters elsewhere. Siblings DC Universe and the upcoming HBO Max streaming platform are considered the most logical options as DC content has been a focus for both. Past seasons of Krypton already run on DC Universe. Season 1 is currently streaming on DC Universe, with Season 2 coming in 2020.

I hate to say that I kind figured this would happen and I haven't even seen the show, was it any good to begin with?

It could have been the biggest hit on the network and Syfy would cancel it within a couple of seasons. That's just how Syfy operates. I don't know why any show would want to be there.

Not too surprised... I honestly never watched the show.

At least we'll always have this:

For those that don't get it, a bored editor decided to add in a meme scream rather than one of the hundreds of stock screams they have.

The Magicians is still going there- the issue is that SyFy can't afford the level of production values for anything past that. (The Magicians is fantastic, but also heavy on the talking and not very heavy on stunts, even though there's a lot of VFX/makeup work.)

Amazon please? The people at SyFy have a problem with keeping good shows and this one was better than it had any right to be.

So the money hat theory got busted. Syfy is just a terrible network for scripted programming.

To be honest, it lasted longer than I expected. A friend of mine tried many times to get me into it, but every time I tried I got bored after a few minutes.

I mean, that probably says more about you than the show. The clue should have been that even though it was a good show, it was on syfy.

Krypton was legit great but nobody watched it. While I'm sad about this as a big fan, the S2 ratings were atrocious. Syfy had little choice here.

Well it's a Syfy show so of course it got canceled. That's just what they do. I'm not sure how or why this channel even still exists.

I could have loved literally any channel growing up. Thousands of options I could have watched every day and fallen in immediate love with

No. I had to fall in love with the only one with more frequent random "huh??" cancellations than goddamn piece of shit Netflix

In this day and age of competing streaming services I say get in wherever you can get you the most exposure. SyFy is still a fairly major cable TV station. Your show may get cancelled but if it gets a lot of fan support or had middling enough ratings to get the attention of a streaming service then you can live on.

On topic, I've never watched Krypton. I was under the impression it was a Superman show without Superman.

Where else can I find so much quality...

*looks at SyFy's lineup for today*

-Dam Sharks!
-Atomic Shark Zombie Shark
-Sharknado
-Sharknado 2: The Second One
-Zombie Tidal Wave
-Megalodon (again).

Nevermind.

Syfy has been trash since they brought wrestling and Law and Order to the network and cancelled Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe.

Zombie Tidal Wave is actually their attempt at trying to do Sharknado again. It's directed by Anthony C. Ferrante and stars Ian Ziering (who is not reprising Fin Shepard)

Kinda disengenous. Yeah their sci-fi original movies are crap, but their shows are oftentimes pretty good. Reading that article I'm just finding out Ascension, which was phenomenal, was on SyFy (I watched it on Netflix after it was long dead).

I don't get how NBCUniversal wants to come out with a streaming service and is canceling shows from arguably their most creative arm. The Expanse, Deadly Class and now Krypton? Jesus.

Perhaps, but it's not like I was picking and choosing, that's literally the lineup for the rest of the day. Tomorrow is all 6 (there's 6?) Sharknado movies and then Frenzy, which is another movie about sharks. It's like they're going out of their way to make people disinterested in the channel.

My condolences to the fans. The more I think about it the more grateful I am that Syfy cancelled The Expanse — what an absolutely fortuitous chain of events followed for my show.

Weekend and daytime programming on most cable stations is crap though. I haven't had cable in maybe around a decade but even back then sci fi would run trash. They could run reruns of something syndicated that they have the rights to, but would that be all that better?

The DC brand is poison. They should stop everything go a few years and super mega reboot with a new creative team.

It became a self-fulfilling prophecy the last 10 years with SyFy.

SyFy cancels good/great show because of ratings --> no-one watches SyFy show because SyFy cancels shows prematurely --> SyFy cancels good/great show because of ratings

Wait... what? I'd say a Superman show without Superman was the problem, but the Batman show without Batman was able to last 5 seasons. The flash and arrow have lasted at least 6 seasons. Even legends is on at least its fourth season. Smallville lasted forever too.

I'm not a big DC fan but I applaud how they aren't afraid to put major cornerstone characters on the small screen. I think it goes without saying you're being hyperbolic when you say the brand is poison.

I don't know what they currently have access to, but SyFy SciFi had a lot of gems back in the day. I'd take marathons of them in a heartbeat.

That sucks, I applaud them for trying something new within the Superman mythos.

But this is also SyFy we're talking about, so canceling a show a season or two in is their MO.

The bolded was my problem with it. When Gotham was announced I had the same hesitation, but at least they made it about the city itself, Gordon, Bruce, Alfred and the rise of the villains. People and things that still exist when Batman comes around. Didn't hurt that the show was good either ;).

In Krypton's case, the planet blows up and everyone dies except for the obvious. Why do I care about Superman's grandfather or whatever and what they went through before everything goes to shit? It's like making a Flash show, but everything's about Henry going to high school before Barry was born and getting picked on by bullies. Who gives a shit..

Did the finale at least wrap up this season's story or did it end on a cliffhanger?
