In the game industry, there's a lot of overtime, all-nighters, and coming in on holidays! It's a practice that has been occurring for a long time. That suddenly changed in recent years, though.

Actually, if you look at other companies and even myself, 10:00 p.m. is when everyone goes home. Or rather, maybe we're getting shut out? I go to work at 10:00 a.m., so I usually spend about 10 hours working each day. In the past, it wasn't that uncommon to work until 1 or 2 in the morning so compared to those days, I'm taking it easy.

So, is Sakurai's life making games for like 10 hours a day, then going home and playing games for 2 hours or something?

Anyway, it's interesting that he talked about this considering how famous he is for overworking.

This out a lot stress on anyone. At college I had to stay up until 4am to get something done by the deadlines without Unity and Perforce deciding to screw us over.

I adore Sakurai's compassion for game development, but hearing about his hand pains, and in general being overworked, no matter how hyped I am for Smash 5 and any future projects he does, I feel bad for him.
He truly needs a good long break.
