In the blue states... not really.
in the red states... most likely.

and the more sick there are in the red states, the more likely they are to invade the blue states to try to get medical help.

I think Trump is pushing the "open for business" narrative, not because he thinks it can open up, but rather to blame the governors locking down for the economy. It's no longer his problem because he said it's ok to open up again. Governors will have to deal with the reality and keep things locked down and safe. Trump is playing political games to remove economic blame from himself.

I see yeah that sounds right. Politicize the pandemic. Well we shall have to see whether the average red state boomer actually buys that its safe to go back to work.

The fact that America elected a sociopathic reality star sure is something as well.

to be fair- he definitely only just won and with a significant popular minority and I suspect like Gore/Bush we'll eventually find out he didn't legitimately win the electoral college either- but even then the fact that he was able to get close enough to hide the tip of the malfeasance thanks to our combination of low information voting and the abuse of 18th century traditions is just as damning.

those 70k votes across multiple states are a margin of error tabulation- and the perfect reminder since we already forgot about Florida Butterflies- that we can't assume anything anymore. Vote.

also a majority of older people live in the south. it would be catastrophic.

Preying on desperation. Disgusting.

Actually sounds like a pretty good deal. Literally make the same amount without working. Getting what is essentially a short term bonus for taking the risk of going in. No desperation at all if you are still getting paid what you were prior to this mess we're in. Better situation than the millions who were literally kicked to the curb.

I agree with this. It won't work, but that's how Trump will convince himself that he won.

Has no one explained to him the risk to the stock market/economy (if nothing else) if he moves to kill shutdowns/shelter in place orders and the spread of this just gets much worse than it already is? Especially if people (other morons) take this as a cue to stop caring about social distancing again while the virus is still raging.

I can actually see a more dangerous plot unfolding within it, and that's for Trump to somehow come in and take power from the Governor(crazy and conspiratorial I know). He's denying(doing nothing actually) needed medical supplies to states and generally setting the system up to collapse. Commentary is he's laying out personal vendettas but I am worried it's something more nefarious and we know how these people feel about executive power.

They're counting on people being desperate enough to go in for the extra money, that's what's disgusting. I have no issue with the other aspect.

It's maddening to think anyone would actually listen to what this man says. The fact that Trump ignores public health officials is exactly the reason the situation in the US is as bad as it is. Why would you CONTINUE to listen to this man?

you don't have to congregate for a general strike because in theory no one is trying to go in

everyone just stay home

So then what is the method here? There are already hundreds of thousands jobless because of this. What are we even striking for? More isolation? More testing? Why is striking now going to change this fuck heads mind about how he's handling the situation with the country?

Wishful thinking.

power doesn't flow exclusively through trump
he's not the only one pushing the return, it's the capitalist class in general

it's literally madman theory but used on a domestic population

Cool. Looks like Mayors of Tampa and St Petersburg are going ahead with a Stay-at-home order.

Again, what is the method. Who is striking. What are they striking for. How will it change the minds of anyone in power.
don't work

capitalists want people to work so they can make money

no people = no money

that's basically the idea

if they restart the economy thousands will die for a marginal gain in value creation for the very few

the whole idea of economic health being dependent on finance falls apart when you realize that exogenous shocks to labour can kill the whole thing

Waiting for the realistic edition of the response to be quite honest. It won't happen, and it probably won't work.

Cool, we stopped working. Now I can't afford anything essential because no money. Now the economy collapses and then what? Suddenly capitalism is gonna become socialist and everyone comes out on top? Like, I don't understand why we are even contemplating this.

i hate to be that person but now is the time to be thinking about a general strike
You mean the people taking the power they hold and uniting to use it against their corporate and political overlords? Never happen. The average American is far too indoctrinated and the powers that be have worked too hard selling the divide and the illusion of our powerlessness. Nah, they'll dutifully go back right after Easter if they are called to do so. Hell, while the twin towers were raging with flame people went back into the building to resume their work day while 50,000 gallons of jet fuel burned above them because they were told to do so over a PA system.

I'd would really love to be proven wrong though.

De Santis is already blaming New York for their increase in infections.
A con is nothing without a fear to sell you or a boogeyman to point at. It isn't that he has the beaches opened and packed like the mayor of Amity during shark season, is it? It is always someone else's fault.

This is how he turns it. He blocks the actual aid needed by people out of work, makes them behind the scenes desperate. He then pits his base directly against the people who are trying to save them from themselves. "See I wanted to let you out of your homes back to your jobs, but these governors, these doctors wanna keep you caged up, take your country away from you." And god dammit if it won't work.
