Have technological advances in gpu power slowed to the point where people don't give a shit about increased amount of pixels anymore and concentrate on the visual splendor? or is it solely the price?

Still, with console manufacturers chasing the 4k dream, it seems rather redundant on PC.

Everytime I look into 4K monitors, it looks likes an overpriced shitshow of a market. 1080p on 23inch monitor has worked well enough for me thus-far. Enjoy my 4K tv, though.

my 1080p monitors work I just ordered a 144hz to replace a dying 60hz still 1080p I just don't care lol when the games I play are cod, csgo or some indie games. I'm all about those framerates.
maybe 1 day when 4k is the only thing to buy ill finally get one.

I'm surprised it's that high given how much performance and equipment it takes.

1080p looks good enough to me.

Price - not everyone can afford 4k-capable monitors and GPUs.

That's why next-gen won't be next year. New consoles will be 4k Native when everyone else is still rocking 1080p TVs. Netflix, arguably the biggest media distributor today, just started rolling out their 4k videos. Adoption is still in its very infancy vs. this gen when everyone already had 1080p TVs when PS4 came out.

If you want 4K/60 you'll have to pay a pretty penny. Considering how many Steam users are playing games on computers with no dedicated graphics at all, let alone anything high end, its not surprising.

We may have seen more of push towards 4k with Turing, but between the massive price hikes and the performance hit raytracing causes...yeah.

The fact that those NVIDIA GSYNC monitors are $600+ is what keeps me from moving forward. My dual 24" displays works just fine for me right now.

I mean not everyone can blow 2k on a PC and monitor, I'll stick to 1080p ultra settings and 60 FPS and just play higher resolution on my pro when it comes to exclusive

4k monitors are still not worth it and that's even assuming you can run things in 4k in the first place.

I use my 4K tv and I still don't notice a massive deference honestly. I don't know, maybe I'm just to oblivious to most things. I just crank it up until I start getting less than 60fps, then stop. Performance is more important to me anyway.

I run a 144hz 1080p monitor. High frame rate for PC games > higher resolutions. Until I get 120hz 4k at an affordable price I'm not touching 4k.

Probably a mix of monitor price being quite high and GPUs not being available to drive 4k graphics at a level that anyone plunking down that kind of cash will be happy with.

Still very happy with 1440p/144hz GSync on my 1080ti right now. It will probably be years before I upgrade

It's 1.33% that plays with a 4k screen. I have a 1440p screen yet play in 4k or even 5k and I'm not counted.

4K monitors are expensive and sacrifice performance and locks you in it for all future game. Well not exactly locked in but you wouldn't want to go sub native on it.

It's because not even the most powerful cards on the market can hit 4k at a locked 60 fps in every game. Much better/easier to play 1440p/60 at max settings, or 1080p 120 fps. You could do 4k/30 in a lot of games, but I imagine most PC gamers would prefer the high framerate, as 30fps feels like dog shit with a mouse.

Because the selection of 4k monitors with HDR are shitty and overpriced

Who wants to go sub native on a monitor? PCs dont scale it seems as well as a console game. I swear its twice as blurry, probably because consoles are built with dynamic scaling in mind.

High refresh rate > resolution

Currently using a 1080p 144Hz monitor, next one will be 1440p 144Hz. And if I feel like playing in 4k I can just downsample.

I'm kind of surprised there are so few 1440p users. Would've expected it to be somewhere between 7% and 10% or something.

I'm still happy with my 1080p Plasma, though I probably would go for a 4K OLED if I could.

I do make use of higher resolutions for supersampling, though.

I'm certainly not interested in spending a bunch of money so my games can have worse performance.

Our eyes can't see more than 1080 pixels at a time, so what's the point?

Until I can get a 4k monitor at $120, I'm sticking with my 1080p display

And even then, my 1080p has to die first

Doesn't surprise me. Price sucks. And it's just now with the 2080ti where you can probably hit 4k60 WITH higher graphical settings on the AAA titles. I know the 1080ti was hailed as a 4K card, but as an owner of one, I'd put quite a few asterisks there.

I downsample older games from 4K @ 1080P (or 1920x1200 depending on if I'm on my desktop monitor or my TV); it gets recorded as 1920x1200 because that's my desktop resolution. I haven't gone 4K yet because the monitors are prohibitively expensive and 1080P with ultra graphics looks better to me than 4K with a mix of medium and high settings.

Most console games aren't native 4k. Most console games are also 30 fps.

If you play games on a monitor you want to avoid playing at resolutions less than your native res because of your proximity to the monitor.

PC gamers tend to want to play at native resolution (or above) and at 60fps. The hardware required to do so at 4k has only just arrived on the market and it's expensive.

Resolution jumps are generally really low priority for me. I'm happy at 1440p and high framerates and probably will be for a few more years at least.

4k TV adoption is not in its very infacy. It's the new standard. Every new TV you buy today is 4k.
I would assume more people will own a 4k TV next year than people having HD TVs back in 2005 when the Xbox 360 came out.

When using DSR 4.00x my desktop resolution also changes to 4k, how would Steam now the difference?

My next monitor upgrade is likely to be 144p gsync. 4K is too expensive, both in kit and performance.

4k is still a high premium both in hardware, and for a good monitor. Even then, 4k 60fps is not always guaranteed. On top of that it is competing with 144hz, and VR.

3.6 (1440p)and 1.3 (4K) are huge percentages. When taking their playerbase into account. That's pretty impressive.

The 980Ti was hailed as a 4K card too, and it is positively not for newer games unless you turn down every graphical option. The 2080ti seems like a legitimate game-changer in that regard, but it's also so expensive that you're not going to see it move the needle much on the 1.33% that already have 4K.

Higher framerate and refresh rate have a much higher impact on gameplay than just more pixels. 100hz at 1080 is infinitely better than 60hz at 4k.

Also, just personally I like my 21:9

Having recently made the jump to 1440p and barely seeing the difference with 1080p while I play, the appeal of 4k is entirely lost on me.
