Man, last year went by ridiculously fast for me, but Black Panther feels like it's been out for years now. Definitely doesn't feel like it's only a year old.

Thor and Cap have great entrances in IW but this entrance is always tops for me a few days out of the week. The music, Okoye's and everyone's reaction and Killmonger's Wassup was just perfection.

Has it really been a year? Damn, a movie's release date hasn't made me feel time this much since Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. That came out almost a decade ago

Incredible film. Cultural touchstone that elevated the genre. Deserves all the critical acclaim, awards and money it made.

Gotta love how the haters threatened by its success are still pressed a year later too. Seethe.

One year ago, 50 Shades of Grey played during my Black Panther screening. People grabbed their kids and ran out. Dude yelled out "The whites are at it again.".

Still the best solo Marvel film (outside of maybe The Winter Soldier) with the best characters, music, aesthetic, and villain.

A really good movie. I don't think it's "great" movie-wise but the celebration of Black culture in it is what elevates it for me.

Not a hater. Just baffled. It's just another high-budget mediocre Marvel movie. Don't hate it, just don't get the acclaim. The awards it is receiving are certainly making me look askance at those institutions.

A year ago there was a little kid who stomped for 2 straight hours and not once did his parents ask him to stop.

Also, there was a kid playing on his iPad.

And a guy next to me with one of those apple watches that had this little light that wouldn't turn off.

And the theater screened was poorly calibrated so everyone was dark and purple.

Black Panther might've been playing, I'm not 100% sure.

Rewatched it a little while ago.

Definitely one of the MCU's best, strongest points are its visual style and soundtrack for me. One silly nitpick I have with it story-wise (aside from messy third act) is the pointlessness of ritual combat. What's the point when the losers are just gonna immediately disregard the results and incite civil war? :P

Beautiful movie, awful CG fight scene at the end aside.

Also, I've been playing the soundtrack for a full year without breaks. At least once a week since it came out. Kendrick deserves an Oscar but it's probably not nominated. It was one of the best albums of the year.

RIP T'Challa

Film was good, but bit overrated IMO. But I'd still put in my MCU Top 10. Can't wait to start my MCU rewatch next month.

I liked it then and I still like it. Doesn't deserve a single Oscar though.

Not sure how anyone could not like this movie. Being "meh" on it is understandable, but to actively dislike it is bizarre. I'm a huge skeptic of Marvel movies, 90% of them are below mediocre, but Black Pantjer was at least watchable, and even had a few good to great moments.

This movie is underrated for real. Like, people talk shit about the CGI but through the majority of the film, it's amazing. That sand effect and the beginning and end is mesmerizingly good.

Killmonger is great every scene he's in. I always hated him from the comics but he's one of my favorite film antagonists of all time.

A lot of people don't get it because it's so outside the perspective they are used to; which makes it that much better, really. There are very few mainstream films that aren't specifically written to please white males ages 14-35(even if you're not this, this is what you're likely used to) and it leads to people calling the film overrated because they don't "get it". They talk about the third act's CGI because they can't identify with the characters for reasons that says more about them than it does the film.

Props to Ryan Coogler, Joe Robert Cole and Kevin Feige for making this flick and it's deserving success. It really is a special picture.

1 year anniversary thread for movies now lol.

It was good for a marvel movie and important for black people I'll give it that.

Very good Marvel flick, better than Homecoming but not as good as Thanos movie 1

Technically T'Challa never yielded so the fight wasn't over and its when he returned that Killmonger escalated the war.

I like it more during a re-watch. The end CGI battle still sucks but everything else is mostly beautiful.

Can't wait for Cap Marvel and End Game.

I really REALLY loved the chase scene since the trailer came out.

I hope this wins Best Picture.
