10 years ago today, Nintendo presented the 3DS to media outlets by chaining them to a group of women

Didn't they also have a bunch of models with 3DS's attached at E3 2010 after the reveal?

Makes me think of the whole "booth babes" thing.

It's still hard to believe this actually happened. It's 100% one of those "videogames are for nerds and loser" moment.

I was thinking about this today actually, this was so weird and uncomfortable.

Also remember how when it launched they sent 3DSs chained to women to media outlets and it was awkward as fuck for everyone involved

Edit: I'm a Dumbo that doesn't read posts and only looks at pictures

Nintendo was in a weird place then. The success of Wii and DS had obviously gone to their heads.

They and 3DS got better, but still.

I remember playing a 3DS demo attached to a woman at E3 2010. Definitely odd.

They had these woman with demos of games not set up at stations wandering the Nintendo Booth so if you wanted to play a certain demo you had to track it down.

These last couple years at E3 Nintendo has been the only major exhibitor to still embrace the modeling agency hires for a lot of their booth staff. Seems like most other companies just go through regular staffing agency now.

Wearing a skirt? Hired model for the show.
Wearing jeans? Works for Nintendo / 3rd Party Partner.

I know someone who worked as a “booth babe” for a couple E3’s. They said the pay was ok but the stories she told me of how some people approached her... cringe worthy.

The worst she said though are car shows in terms of people being too grabby.

i was at this e3 and it was pretty yikes. i remember being in line to get into the nintendo booth but they had a e3 model walk through the line so people can see it while waiting and dudes were crowding around them saying fuckall to personal space

When we did events at Toys R Us involving pre-release Nintendo handhelds, they would have them tethered to us as well; years before the 3DS stuff. They had a history of this.

I remember this lol. It was weird at the time and still weird now.

I remember all the news coming out too soon after with the Star Fox 64 and OOT remaster that wasn't in the conference (I forget if it wasn't or not).

This was actually pretty tame by E3 standards. I don't think people realize all of the crap that was common place at E3 until relatively recently.

If E3 has to die for this weird and horrid practice to never show up again, so be it.

(I'm talking about booth babes in general, not just whatever the hell this was).
