It's the only Ace Combat game I played and really enjoyed it. I guess it's also really hard to pin this into a specific genre. And if you were to call it an action game or an action/adventure game, it'd automatically go into a genre with some heavy hitters.

I really tried to give it a shot but the missions just weren't fun.

Ended up ditching it.

Amazing game! I think it's only shortfall was the story, which was just not very gripping. That mission with the lightning and the strong winds was insane!

Definitely! It was my first Ace Combat game too and I got it because a friend who's super into the series was really excited for it and I loved every second I spent with it. It's hard as fuck if you don't know what you're doing even on the lowest difficulty, but it's so much fun and plays really well. Also I personally think that the OST deserved a GOTY nomination. :(

It's great, and it's DLC is fantastic. Unfortunately it's hella niche and few people are gonna appreciate it.

e: OP you should emulate AC4, AC5 and AC0 on PCSX2 if you can. They're just as good, if not better.

For sure but honestly I got bored/frustrated pretty quickly (mostly because of lots of other great gams out around that time)....still need to finish and VERY much looking forward to it.

I wouldn't know, it hasn't really gone down in price that much in price since it launched here. Shit's rare.

It's a great game, if you like jets and air combat. I personally love it, but it's pretty niche.

Game looks and sounds fantastic, so at a technical level it should certainly be appreciated.

It looked really great, but I couldn't justify a purchase without having played any of the other games.

It is indeed one of the most underappreciated games of 2019.

Awesome game. Better than Ace Combat 6 in 2007. The only games that rival AC7 in my mind are AC4 and AC5 (AC Zero was good also) on the PS2.

I really appreciate this game because it feels exactly like the PS2 games but then with todays visuals.

I mean honestly, this is the hardest Ace Combat game I have played. I beat some others on the harder settings and this one was more challenging on Normal.

At this point it'd have to be a pretty deep sale, or hit Game Pass.
Get it on PC, it has mod support. And by mod support I mean you can put anime waifus on your planes.

God, I remember when flight sims were big enough to be their OWN genre. We'll never have those days again, will we?

Anyhoo, I liked it a lot, but yeah it's hella difficult at times (those drones are no joke and the score attack missions have really high thresholds), and oh god the story. I think of the two Ace Combats I've played (both this year), I prefer AC5 by a small margin. Maybe one day they'll release that PS4 port to everyone who didn't pre-order the game!

Also, if you've already played the game, I found this video explaining the story very helpful (in case it isn't obvious, MASSIVE SPOILERS):

That final confrontation against the Arsenal Bird is one of my favorite moments this year.

The DLC missions were also top notch.

Hearing about timed missions turned me right the hell off, even though the concept of Anime Top Gun is highly intriguing

I can accept the game being overshadowed by much better games (or so I've been told - AC7 was the only 2019 game I played).

However, I have noticed that the OST, which is one of the best in a series already renowned for incredible music is being ignored for some reason in many of the game awards, which is absolutely criminal

I certainly think it's one of the most under appreciated games of 2019. I never played an Ace Combat game and wanted to try this out on At the time my fairly new gaming PC. It started off a bit rough but once I lowered some setting, it ran incredibly well! Also I just had a blast with the missions and trying to figure which plane was best for the mission's objectives and which parts and jets to buy in the aircraft tree. The missions themselves were trilling and man the music is honestly my favorite OST of 2019. I played with a mouse and keyboard at first which was fine, but it was a revelation when I had an XBOX 360 controller and it played WAY BETTER. I dug it and have been thinking about buying that season pass.

Now release the legacy Ace Combats on Steam Bandai-Namco!

What I need is a JP version of Electrosphere remastered.

That game was so great. I didn't understand it ofcourse, but you could defect factions etc. Probably the most ambitious game in the franchise.

Great game indeed. Just a shame it is so short though. If I had bought the game at full price I wouldn't have been happy about it. Alas I got it for half price so great value for that.

I'm a big fan of Ace Combat 4/5/Zero and I just haven't gotten around to playing 7. Too many other games. I plan on getting 7 when it's one sale some time

I played the PC version when the game came out, it was great. But flight games are not going to light the world on fire compared to the popularity of other genres.

No, it's just an extremely small niche of a genre. The fact the franchise had so many installments proves how strong it is. Taking Ace Combat 7 as an example, it had great reviews, very strong sales and even received DLC months after release. It won't ever get better than this for any other game of the genre with another name.

Picked this up on Black Friday Xbox Sales and have only played LAN MP with two of my mates. Took some getting used to but having not played AC since 6 I was blown away by the presentation of it.

Haven't tried the campaign yet but I'm looking forward to it.

To add, everytime I see a new Microsoft Flight Simulator video, in the back of my mind I imagine running Ace Combat in that gorgeous world.

Yeah, I think the genre just limits it's mass appeal to a degree, no matter how good it looks or sounds or how much animu story you put around it. I can't really think of much they could realistically do to grow the audience. Maybe if it came out as a launch title during a really dry console launch of something.

Ace Combat has never been hugely popular and I don't think 7 was one of the stronger ones. I did enjoy it but there were a couple events towards the end of the game that just made it frustrating to play.

0 > 5 > 4 > 6 > 7 and I haven't played the others but I would imagine they fall below these, at least nowadays.

It was my first AC and I loved it, even bought a HOTAS for it (and for VR).
But I must confess I haven't played it since I finished it even if I think about playing the DLC almost on a weekly basis. Something about the general difficulty feels like too much work to get back into it when there is so much other stuff to play.
Still, absolutely great game and I wished more people played it.

Now I want a Macross/Robotech game.

136201.gif

Macross made by the Aces team!? I mean they are the only name in the biz that can. But they are focused on making Macross a idol girl franchise now so I guess never.

Seriously though, AC7 is a brilliant game. It's got that classic tight yet arcade funness that Namco used to revel in. The story is conveyed fairly blandly, but it really is great.

If you have any interest but have dove in I highly recommend trying it.

Fantastic game. And yes, I agree: It's underappreciated. Fantastic music, great missions. I want more!
