I'm all for shorter seasons - and I probably would've watched all the Marvel series if they were shorter - but I don't know if I buy the idea that the long seasons were entirely on Marvel / Disney instead of Netflix.

Orange Is the New Black completely owned by Netflix from what I understand, but that series is also 13 episodes/season and suffers as a result. And not only is each season 13 episodes, each episode is around 60 minutes instead of ~40-45 minutes like network shows. There ends up being tons of bloat as a result.

Fairly sure OitNB is Lionsgate.

Some year of lists:

AV Club has a rundown of the best opening credits of the year that's pretty good, because it makes sure to include the incredibly cathartic intro of The Good Fight.
GxBii0x.gif

Vulture:
Matt Zoller Seitz's 10 Best TV Shows of 2018
Jen Chaney's 10 Best TV Shows of 2018
The 10 Best TV Episodes of 2018

All solid lists (even if the lack of Patrick Melrose is disconcerting)

The Guardian:
The 50 best TV shows of 2018: 50-11
Always a neat thing to have a counterbalance to the US lists, and The Guardian tends to have one of the best (provided they stick Patrick Melrose in their top ten where it belongs)

Amazon Sparks To Shauna Cross eOne Hourlong Female Superhero Saga 'Deadtown'

Come on to we really need another superhe-
Amazon Studios has stepped up for Deadtown, an Entertainment One and Grey Matter Entertainment script that will be developed for a pilot by Shauna Cross. Deadtown is an adaptation of the Catherynne M. Valente novella The Refrigerator Monologues and the hourlong premise is a blueprint to create an original superhero universe set in the modern era with an underlying theme of female empowerment.

The Refrigerator Monologues
That's a great fucking title.
Five recently-dead women meet in Deadtown, a purgatory where they discover that their entire lives were merely in service to the superhero men they happened to cross paths with, resulting in each of their deaths. Or in comic book terms, they were "refrigerated"–frozen out of the story once they provided emotional backstory for the men. Until now. They start to discover their own powers, tell their sides of the narrative, and decide to write their own damn stories. And a group of seemingly ordinary women discover their own true power. It's a subversive, kick-ass exploration of what it means for women to find their inner power – and use it.
Oh. Oh. I quite like this.

You should use Threadmarks from now on when the title changes.
I don't know how those actually work, I get what they are in theory. Same with how bookmarks are different from "watched threads". The only thing in 2.0 I really get are emojis 🤐🤐🤐☠☠☠😓😓😓

That sounds dangerously close to making an effort.

[Hidden content]
Someone who creates threads can't complain about effort to someone too lazy to create threads.

It's weird that hidden text is automatically revealed to logged in people.

EDIT: It's actually revealed to those that have replied to a topic.

Just catching up and I guess Young Sheldon had an explicit crossover with Big Bang Theory? I think these two shows have crossed over more than most network spinoffs not based on comic books of the Chicago universe. lol

Good Hawaii Five 0 episode.

Every episode with John Locke is great.

But I do feel like they should have changed a bit from 2002 to 2018.

Also, it's amazing how much Montana looks like Hawaii ;)

Still really enjoying The Kids are Alright. It's a fun, well acted and written sitcom with interesting characters, and is quite funny. I hope it'll do well enough to stay.

Life in Pieces has taken over as my main show though. I'm addicted to it on Netflix.

It's pretty interesting that Last Man Standing's success may actually stem from older millennials despite the reputation. I would have that older people would be more resonant on the show. Or maybe they're too busy watching CBS.

The TGIF bump didn't last sadly, but there's still hope for a renewal. I mean if Blindspot could do it, so could they... right?

I wonder what happens with the international rights to shows like B99 once they change networks.

Anyone know how many episodes Season 2 of The Resident is going to be? They had a fall finale at episode 9 and I'm hoping for more than 14 this season. Couldn't find out in searching online though.

Another Period had a very good first season but was pretty mediocre in seasons 2 & 3. Like so many shows now, it should be one and done.

Looking forward to both The Umbrella Academy and Deadly Class in January.

Right now, I gotta catch up with Legacies and Titans though. Behind with 3 episodes in each.

only reason I can see for this is those with good memories of Home Improvement. Which is the only reason I'd even look at this show, if it wasn't so blatantly right wing.

I'm glad God Friended Me is doing pretty well. It's a pretty good and easy to like show that I enjoy watching. It kind of fills a void left by Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, which I probably liked more and miss.

I'm also happy Last Man Standing is back and doing pretty well. I enjoy the show despite its politics, which are its worst part.

Guess people didnt want to see Mr Elon Musk. Of the ceo interviews, I think his was a bit better. Wish they went with someone other than Lesley Stahl for it as she is one of my least favorite reporters. With how there are so many tesla's out there i thought they were doing better than being on the verge of bankruptcy.

Favorite part was Ryan Speedo Green opera singer interview, so inspirational and from the city right beside my hometown.

HBO Orders 'Gorilla And The Bird' Limited Series From Jean-Marc Vallée, Channing Tatum & Big Beach
HBO has greenlighted Gorilla and the Bird, a new limited series from Jean-Marc Vallée, the director/executive producer behind the network's Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. Vallée is set to direct and executive produce the project, based on Zack McDermott's book Gorilla and the Bird: A Memoir of Madness and a Mother's Love. It hails from Vallée's crazyrose, Channing Tatum's Free Association and Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf's Big Beach, and will be an HBO-Big Beach co-production.
Written by Demolition scribe Bryan Sipe, who will serve as executive producer/showrunner, Gorilla and the Bird is described as an inspirational tale of a mother's unconditional love for her bipolar son. It follows Zack (the Gorilla) as he fights to regain his sanity after a devastating psychotic break, turning to the only person who didn't give up on him – his mother (The Bird). Once a highly successful public defender for The Legal Aid Society of New York, Zach's sudden illness takes him on a harrowing journey of delusions and antisocial behavior, leading to his eventual arrest and commitment to Bellevue Hospital.
The Jean-Marc Vallée minis have worked well for them so I can see why they went for this, even as I thought he was a detriment to Sharp Objects.

Your mistake is counting streaming shows in your mental calculus. As long as I'm caught up on things that are airing traditionally week to week I consider myself to be doing great, the streaming stuff I've just given up on ever being current on.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to watch Sabrina and Daredevil S3 over the Christmas lull, but if not that's okay. They'll still be there whenever I get to them.

Oh hey I almost forgot to mention this:
A&E Developing More Than Ten Non-Scripted Projects With British Producers
That's quite the few
Including Terminally Ill Hologram Format
Including what now
U.S. cable network A&E is developing nearly a dozen projects with British production companies including a moving documentary format where terminally ill people deliver a message to their families from beyond the grave.
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUh.
[T]he project, which has the working title Voices From The Grave... follows terminally ill people and creates holograms of them before they die so that they can give their families a message when they pass. It offers people facing their final weeks and days the chance to show that death is not the end of their story.
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUh- huh
Gottlieb said that the broadcaster was working up the format "sensitively with a loud hook". "Once we talked to bereavement specialists and psychologists, everyone was on board with it. It's a great thing for a lot of these families. The process was incredibly moving. Shooting with these people to help them craft their message, when you think about your final moments on your deathbeds, you're not always in the state that you want to be remembered so this is a way for people, months before that, when they still have their facilities about them and look they want to be remembered," he said.
...

If you think that's bad, think about the flip-side.

The producers will probably offer people who do this free palliative care.

It's yet another example of how broken American healthcare is: people would rather exploit the shit out of dying people for entertainment than making sure they get the healthcare they need.
