Hmm, the dude behind "Shang-Chi" will be directing this, which likely means that this is coming past 2021 or this is going to film very soon.
Lucifer I heard has been performing super well for Netflix, topping charts for four weeks in a row. Why is Netflix so eager to end all of their shows lately?
Is it possible the company isn't worried about retaining users? Keeping an old show might keep current users on, but it is less likely to attract new people? So they might think that constantly adding new shows is more likely to get new subscribers, and active users won't cancel because they'll just move on the the next thing. That's the best logic I can come up with, but it seems kind of shaky.

Possibly. Lots of criticism of various bits of his writing and reporting. He weaved a compelling yarn in that book but he's been accused of fabricating a lot, and making wild allegations about people that went nowhere when investigated.
Even treating this as a work of fiction, I think Ansel Elgort, perpetual babyface, is really miscast.
The title still kind of works since "Lucifer" is developed by WB anyway.

oh right I almost forgot about this, remember when I mentioned that the streaming wars have already gotten weird in the Nordics?

Maybe the cast and crew contractually get huge salary bumps after S5?
Also, they may just have some internal metrics that indicate audiences won't stay with a show after a certain number of seasons. S1-5 as a complete package with a proper ending might be the value sweet spot they were looking for. Plus, by virtue of being a network show, also has a higher episode count than a comparable "Netflix Original" after 5 seasons.
I'd say the internal metrics say ending at Season 5 will be good.

I wouldn't mind paying $16-17 per month if it really has HBO, Cinemax, original series, and tons of movies. That's a really good value.
(I hope they have a robust classic movie section - Warner Bros. is one of the oldest movie studios so my expectations are high.)
The article mentions that pay TV people with HBO would get the Warner SVOD service included. Since I currently have cable + HBO, it sounds like I might get the service w/out an additional cost. Which would be great, although I'm not sure how much longer I plan to keep HBO after I catch up on the past season of True Detective.
You'd think a show about guys trying to find artifacts in a field would be boring, but as an excuse to get some of these characters together, it just works. lolVery.
It's low-key (... ok; very low-key) one of the best shows that has come out of the UK over the last five years. The premise is good, but it's the execution that is just brilliant. It's just this very down to earth (sorrynosorry), contemplative comedy that feels like a breath of fresh air in just how low the stakes are. And it has Toby Jones, that's always a big plus.

Mathieu Kassovitz is listed amongst the cast as well, but not in what capacity. So maybe he's not dead, or maybe he's playing a corpse in the first episode. 🤷♂️

Looks like NOS4A2 performed well - 2nd biggest scripted cable premiere of 2019 behind History Channel's Project Blue Book. I'm halfway through the season and think it's pretty solid thus far. The first season only covers the first 1/3 of the book, so hopefully they get to cover the whole thing (pretty likely considering AMC's track record, as well as the fact that they're already ending 3 series this year and also own NOS4A2).
I still need to watch seasons 3 and 4...

It couldn't have cost much to produce and there are all sorts of topics they could have covered in future seasons, so I just assumed it would be around for a few more years. Yeah, the premise could work for say the CIA, but I'm sceptical that it will be handled as elegantly as the original. Speaking of remakes and France though, have we talked about the really weird French Fleabag remake?

The Lost Symbol was fucking terrible. The book literally ends with like two chapters of info dump where someone explains to everything that happened to Langdon because he had no clue about anything.

A rare time I've been happy to see new news in the thread. More shows should have a planned end (after all, stories are supposed to have ends just like they're supposed to have beginnings) on their own terms, and I'm glad they stuck to it

I watched the first few episodes of this show over the last few days (been marathoning Bob's Burgers for the first time but needed something a little bit different) and I'm really enjoying it so far.
