I'm really curious to see how it's going to go down with his opponent Walker Stapleton, who seems to be aiming squarely towards the Trump crowd, a man my state never voted for in neither the primaries or general. Still you never know.

Whaaaat I had no idea! That's awesome. Just based on my time in Colorado and the friends I have there it seems like things have moved left enough that a gubernatorial candidate being openly gay shouldn't doom their campaign. I'll be cheering for Polis.

Also, zer0blivion looks like Ocasio-Cortez pulled off the upset. What blows my mind is that she's 28. Super impressive.

What I wonder about "millennial" (barf) candidates is - will our generation's use of social media come back to bite political candidates? Or will we start to accept that probably everyone posted dumb drunk photos at age 18 and it doesn't actually matter?

Primaries in Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington.
Special election in Ohio House District 12 - a district that Trump won handily, but is now locked in a very close special election contest. If Democrat Danny O'Conner pulls of a victory (or even comes close) it'll be yet another warning sign for Republicans heading into the fall.

How are you planning to get involved this week, ERA?

Primaries tonight in Vermont, Connecticut, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. If you're following along, FiveThirtyEight has a great preview of what to look for tonight.

In more general get involved news, I've been gradually reaching out to friends who I'm less than 100% certain would turn out to vote about the midterms and the response, overall, has been positive.

• First, I assembled a list (by scrolling through my phone contacts, mostly) of folks I know who are neither 0% voters nor 100% voters. Turns out most people I know fall into this category.
• I've been reaching out one by one through texts, phone calls, or conversations (depending on what makes sense for our relationship). I spent all kinds of time bouncing ideas back and forth with a friend about what kind of template message to use, but after all of that work I found the best success rate in just going simple. I just ask - "Is your voter registration up to date? You can check here:" and then providing a link to their state's voter website (pulled from the list in the OP). With a simple message like this, somewhere around 95% of folks respond. When I was leading off with three paragraphs of information ("are you voting? Here's why it's important! Here are the issues in your state!") the response rate was further towards 80%. Instead of running people over with that stuff right off the bat, I just tell them at the end that if they have any questions about why it's important to vote / who's on the ballot / politics in general, they are more than welcome to reach out. A few friends have done so.
• Thus far I've been surprised how many people are tuned in this year - even young-ish people like me who haven't necessarily paid much attention to politics before. Still, at least five folks I talked to weren't super tuned in and are now in the process of preparing to vote (mostly they hadn't updated their registration in a while or needed to apply of absentee). If just a few of them turn out, then I'll feel like I did what I could to make a difference.

Has anyone else been reaching out to potential voters or otherwise getting involved? If so, I'd love to hear what you've been doing and how it's been working out.

What's your read on the Governor's race over there? Seems like a crowded field on the Dem side.

Also, I didn't realize (until I read the FiveThirtyEight preview) that Randy Bryce has had so many weird controversies this year and now has a serious primary challenger. He was a social media hit last year but I guess that doesn't always translate to a strong campaign.

It is my district. I don't think the controversies have hurt Bryce's chances.
In terms of Republican candidates, the front runner looks like Kevin Adam Steen as I see his signs all around town. Thankfully nobody is talking about Nehlan.
I'm not sure what's going on with the governor's race. I do know that Scott Walker is not that popular.

Also, I didn't realize (until I read the FiveThirtyEight preview) that Randy Bryce has had so many weird controversies this year and now has a serious primary challenger. He was a social media hit last year but I guess that doesn't always translate to a strong campaign.

I suspect Paul Ryan retiring was bad for his fundraising. Negative enthusiasm is a very real effect in politics. (see also: people hating Ted Cruz translating into Beto donations)

That's probably true. A lot of the initial excitement (from my read, at least) was that he was the anti-Paul Ryan in almost every way. I guess it's hard to keep that momentum going without Paul Ryan there to serve as a foil.

He sure did! It'll be interesting to see if he can pull the focus of his campaign back to local / district issues, after having been a nationwide social media star of sorts. It certainly would be nice to see Ryan's district flip, even if Ryan is stepping down.

His GOP opponent is Bryan Steil, a clone of Paul Ryan that worked as his aide. Thaaaat won't play well with WI-1 people.

I've been extremely busy the past few weeks starting a new job, but I will have an eye tomorrow night on the Florida and Arizona primaries, which are really the two biggest remaining primaries. Some interesting races to follow:

• In their gubernatorial primaries, will Floridians nominate establishment favorites (Putnam for the R's, Graham for the D's) or go with more "outsider" figures? I put outsider in quotes because Ron DeSantis, who's leading for the GOP primary, isn't actually an outsider, but likes to pretend he is as he's busy doing his whole "I'M JUST LIKE TRUMP" schtick.
• While the Democratic primary is all but decided in Arizona's Senate race, the GOP primary will be interesting to watch. Will the establishment candidate (Martha McSally) lose to "CHEMTRAIL KELLY" or the ludicrously racist Joe Arpaio? (the answer is maybe and probably not, respectively).

I'm interested to see whether DeSantis wins, and what effect that has on the race (some polling had him trailing Democratic candidates that Putnam led). I'm also interested to see what Arpaio's vote share is, like what percentage of primary voters are willing to vote for someone who isn't even pretending not to hate non-white people?

The thread will undergo a bit of a shift after the big primaries are over toward gearing up for the general election, so stay tuned and let's make a difference!

Tonight's the night! I'm tired as hell so I'll be heading to bed before the results really start rolling in, but I was heartened to see my Facebook today populated by folks voting in the primaries. I really can't see I've seen that level of engagement before from such a wide range of people.

Fortunately, the candidates I would have voted for are all winning by substantial margins.

And DeSantis is winning in the Republic governor race, which is awesome since it is virtually impossible to untie him from Trump.
I'm confident we will (finally) get a Dem governor but I'm really worried Bill Nelson loses his seat.
