Its amazing when the candidate who is 1000 years old is the most high energy candidate.

Bernie killed it last night.

Also if ya'll are fine with the establishment going after Bernie, you need to be ok with him going after all these other clowns. Can't have it both ways.

More generalizing, care to point out who this establishment is?

Still, I'd be surprised if there's a direct push against Bernie from the Dem "establishment" - that would basically enable him to Trump his way to the nomination.

Bernie should go after establishment Democrats. He pledged not to make personal attacks, but he can batter them all day on policy. That's where they are extremely weak anyway, and it will play well with independent voters. People elected Donald Trump because they were looking for an outsider. Bernie Sanders brings that same appeal.

capital D's don't realize their paranoia about Sanders is an endorsement of him

It was the reason I thought that he would beat Trump in 2016, neither party apparatus is actually particularly popular being an "outsider" & being challenged from such institutions is actually a net positive.
Still I think articles like this are stirring the pot, perhaps there is such talks at some level, behind closed doors by certain politicians. But I kinda doubt that the DNC and that many party leaders are on board with the idea of tipping the scales, after they saw what happened last time around. It's why I think we are unlikely to see high profile endorsements from the Democratic leadership until around the California primary.

We haven't seen Pete get attacked so it will be interesting to see him in a Fox News town hall setting. I'm still opposed to Dems doing Fox news town halls though as it gives Fox news legitimacy and ratings.

It's a little late to seriously reverse those things though. If they manage to handle it as well as Bernie did it does a lot to disrupt the narrative Fox wants advanced,

To be fair, the leader of the Democrats openly called Progressives "about 5 people" and attempted to dismiss their entire movement, but then immediately reiterated that she was the real progressive by maintaining the center. Bernie's ideas are not widely popular for politicians because they would be affected by his policies directly as well.

that's a neat article, thanks for sharing

if only there were some other way to get a representative sample of the voting population to measure a candidate's viability

oh well
There is a poll where people ranked bernie and warren second and third as the most insider politicians after Biden. It seems people determine insiderness by intensity and length of prominence in a political context. I think social media's nature does frame things in a more pro-adversarial light than the general population too.

But you're still closer to the general population being on social media than watching elite class pundits and editorialists who like to think that means the only changes to the status quo should be bipartisan votes for legislation written by Citigroup

Yeah, I don't think it's the best idea for Bernie or another candidate to go on Fox again. They are going to make sure to do their best to bring them down next time, especially after the Bernie town hall. The audience embracing Bernie was a big part of what helped him. They'll see to that not happening again in a repeat performance.

It's crazy to see so many starting to acknowledge Bernie as the front runner after this debate, when all the time before he was "no chance" candidate. Just based on that alone I think this town hall was a major success.
He and Biden have led every poll by a significant margin. That's not new.

Front runner by popularity doesn't mean the Democratic Party likes him. There's a difference and you know it.
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? A man who is blatantly utilizing the Party for his own inflated sense of self is not the Party's favorite? Gee, color me shocked. This is not new either.

But already trying to frame it as "they're out to get us" is Trump level "WITCH HUNT!" paranoia that is only going to further the division within the Democratic party before the race even gets started in earnest.

And if by some miracle he doesn't get the nomination, it'll already have been framed as a con job, as opposed to maybe Democratic voters simply wanting someone else.

one underrated quality of bernie sanders is his ability to make literally everyone of all political walks of life act like a lunatic
The man is too sane and too genuine. It makes those who play a certain act , which is almost everyone in politics, to feel uncomfortable. Also slightly envious and admiring

This expectation from his die-hard supporter is going to cause a massive backlash when he likely loses because 2016 was likely his ceiling, not his floor.

Also, another problem with Emerson beyond the low N

No, she said the DSA-types were about 5 people, not the "progressives". The House Progressive Caucus existed long before AOC/Omar/etc. arrived and is far larger than they are.
Yeah this single action shows you why a lot of people dont trust Pelosi
Yes, a lot of people deliberately took the quote out of context to justify why they don't like Pelosi because that's what they do. They hate people that stand in their way.

Pete has the military fetishization to fall back on to get some positive reactions from a stacked crowd, but everyone else will have a tough time.

Are you saying that it is perfectly acceptable for the Party establishment to work against Bernie, but calling this out as a fact is dividing the Party? Incredible.

They did their best and failed. Fox news isn't populated by master debaters. If a dem candidate cant go on there and look good then they dont deserve to be in the race.

Now that Bernard is the clear front runner it's time to coalesce around him for the sake of party unity. These Beto and Buttigieg Bros are going to throw the election to Trump!

.

This assumes that support consolidates behind the anti-bernie candidate as strongly as it did when it was functionally a 2 person race. The forecast can't just be about enthusiasm since his campaign has clearly refined their messaging approach

If Biden doesn't run Bernie will be hovering around 40% in the polls. I'd imagine the bulk of Warren supporters would go to him as well and he's surely the second choice for a lot of other voters. We haven't seen his ceiling yet.

The problem is that Bernie has already lost a major chunk of his 2016 support. To win he needs to both win those more conservative voters back over and flip a number of Hillary voters.

I don't think he can do it.

Great generalization you got there.

It's easy to forget, that by the very nature of you talking online about politics, you are not like the general population.

Unless of course, you are trying to make some asinine point about a low sample Emerson poll.

How is it a generalization when I say many? I didn't say most or all. Seems like you're wearing a shoe that fit.

It makes sense that the party doesn't like Bernie since he just uses it when it suits him. Understandable if you're a party loyalist (but if you're not a high ranking official in the party it seems to be a weird sticking point), at the same time I don't think he was being "victimized" for people pointing out facts that even centrists agree with. I'm really confused.

The article doesn't give any indication that this faction that wants to work against Sanders is any bit sizable. The people will side with the candidate they want, and if party leaders don't like it, who cares. They'll be dragged by their constituents.

Sanders has spent his entire life fighting for the working man, and has worked since 2015 to change the Democratic Party from within. Yes, he has a big ego, but his record on policy has been remarkably consistent for a very long time.

You don't like his democratic socialist policies, fine. But this is a nonsense criticism.

Now that Bernard is the clear front runner it's time to coalesce around him for the sake of party unity. These Beto and Buttigieg Bros are going to throw the election to Trump!

It's almost as if what is actually progressive changes over time, and isn't just a brand name. That Caucus has been around since the 90's (thanks, Bernie), but it's not the 90's anymore.

Bernie is my first realistic choice and this is complete bullshit. How can he change the party from within when he isn't even an official member lol
