After giving it more thought, I think the best pragmatic argument in favor of allowing felons to vote from prison is that taking away prisoners' right to vote inherently and institutionally incentivizes politicians/the state to criminalize the actions of people they want to suppress due to the efficacy of voter suppression by having such people thrown in jail, so removing that incentive could indirectly reduce crime; it is impossible to have fair criminal justice reform if depriving prisoners of their right to vote continues to be such an effective tool for voter suppression.
Old.

Makes me like her more, MCA is good but the ultimate goal should be UHC, especially if the Senate cannot be flipped. Hope she continues to shape up to be a rational progressive candidate.
sanders has and does support incremental improvements, the difference is he is always clear on the desired end goal and leads with that. beginning from a compromise position and conceding ground to the insurance companies that need to be defeated and destroyed will kneecap the left before the fight has even begun.

I don't think Bernie is that different, though. His rhetoric may be a bit more charged, but they're both socdems at the end of the day.

I've got a real soft spot for Warren and I think she'll be a vital player if we're fortunate enough to make any progress toward our broader goals, but I'm going to rank the person who stands and applauds when Trump red baits and says things like "pathways to medicare for all" behind the person who self labels as "socialist" 11/10 times.

It may seem superficial but, given the country's history, I think the distinction matters. If you're being preemptively conciliatory towards detractors of socialized medicine during your audition and coalescing to nonsensical republican smears for no other reason than you agree with them(?), I struggle to believe that the convictions that seem to separate you from the field will hold up when it matters.

It should be fairly obvious that felony disenfranchisement and racism go hand in hand. Denying that ignores the history of this country. If pop history is your thing, there was a fairly popular book by Michelle Alexander that touches on it, among other motivations for incarceration: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Jim_Crow

Warren's handling of her "Native American ancestry" is still definitely a huge sticking point for me. She needs to come out with a better apology to native people and include their input as a key part of her platform.

And like I said in earlier posts, both still make concessions to capital which will always be a negative to me. I don't really have any doubts about either's convictions to their reformism, though.

Clips will be posted I'm sure. She's not getting booed or anything, but her answers are falling flat and this is an extremely hot crowd for both Booker and Castro so far. Her cadence also comes off like she's talking like a robot and now people in the crowd are just talking amonst themselves ignoring her

The New Jim Crow is fairly old at this point, I need to read it one of these days.

Read this too. I would argue it's just an important a text as The New Jim Crow

https://www.amazon.com/Until-We-Rec...ered&qid=1556134384&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

Danielle is executive director of Common Justice, an organization in New York that provides alternatives to incarceration for survivors of violent offenses. She makes an incredibly powerful case that incarceration does little to provide healing for survivors, doesn't really make us much safer, and that pursuing alternative ways to address violent offenses through restorative justice and other practices have provided much more fruitful avenues that have not only led towards rehabilitation of the offender, but far greater healing for the survivor as well.

90% of survivors when given the option to use Common Justice, as opposed to incarceration choose Common Justice.

I genuinely can't wait for Biden's answers about stuff like reparations and prisoners voting

No, it's about how every single person that purports to be a "centrist" eventually gets outed as closeted GOP fucknugget who think that they can get away from the repercussions of all the racist GOP policies they support just by relabeling themselves.
Same thing for the "Classical Liberal".
Oft. I'm a classical liberal. There seem to be two definitions for it.

Bernie's not getting a great reaction here.
On his audience questions to be clear.
His answers weren't very good in response to why women of color should vote for him or what he's doing to win Hillary voters from 2016. Black women in the crowd weren't having it.

I'm gonna copy in the third tweet of the first string Helio posted
In response to why WOC should choose him, @BernieSanders says look at his record and issues he's championed. He noted four years ago he talked about major issues like Medicare for all, ending the war on drugs and legalizing marijuana, climate change that are now popular.

He said we don't just need healthcare for all people but reflects on wealth and health disparities. He says the campaign is suggesting very strongly that 3 families have more wealth than the bottom half of America, and billionaires buying elections, and the racial disparities.

He said the campaign is taking on the big interests like Wall Street and militarily and prison industrial complexes. The campaign is Us Not Me, because no president can do it alone. He said we have to together take on incredibly powerful institutions to transform this country.
No wonder they got frustrated, he went to the stump speech in response to the question instead of addressing it.

And it got worse.

Only saw ORourke and Sanders and now Warren. Yeah Sanders and ORourke stumbled a little. The crowd likes Warren.

Bernie really needs to copy Kamala's homework for Women POC questions.

I still believe in the universality of his approach but yeah, his messaging stinks.

When I say he needed to put in the work in 2016, its not coming from my dislike of him. He would have both done marginally better in that campaign but more importantly he'd be in a much stronger position in this one because he would have had to learn those lessons.
