He's an honorable citizen! /s
Actually, he believes that because he is now a lawmaker, he shouldn't be punished by the law.

Ya know what it is even more funny? There are lawmakers who 'protect traditional family values'. Yet that very same people don't condemn the pedophile.

Read the article, they weren't all arrested this week, it sounds like they mean that is the total number of people arrested who were involved up to today.

Federal prosecutors have filed multiple charges against a 23-year-old South Korean man accused of running what they call the world's "largest dark web child porn marketplace."

23 seems way too young of an age for someone to be doing this ... like you're barely 5 years into adulthood yourself fuckface .. what's the fuck is wrong with you.

I have a thought for the poor (heroic) officers that will now have to review every single frame of those 8TB in order to file, rank and organize the content in an attempt to id the victims and link it to other pre existing known content and victims and networks...
How do they manage to stay sane or not spiral into ptsd and depression ?

Someone mentioned that there were tons of videos that were unknown to authorities. That means someone has to watch them and just has that shit burned into their brains to be able to distinguish new ones...poor souls.

I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to coordinate the effort required to review that material and identify the victims known and unknown within :/

200.000 individual video files?

I am glad the 337 fucks were arrested, and I hope they burn, but I can't help feeling about the kids.

Toddlers even... I can't.

I know some investigators that are traumatized by such work. It is usually a very short stint in your career that takes a massive toll on you in every way. I hope someday we can create AI that can do the work for us, since no human being should have to subject themselves to such depravity.

As far as the offenders go they should be deleted from society in every way possible. Child predators forfeit any right they had to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

As OP was saying, bad week for pedophiles. Good week for everyone else.

200000 videos. 8tb worth. That's gotta be literally weeks worth of footage. Can you imagine being tasked with reviewing that??

Absolutely vile.

I came across a CP Tumblr a few years ago and reported it to their support page and they emailed back within like five minutes that they'd taken it down. I do wonder if the person/people running it were found out.

I imagine they have archives of content and algorithms to match newly obtained videos to existing videos in their archive. Surely.

Man... I wish I remember who did it, but there was a fantastic article months back that interviewed the people who sift through this shit. It left some serious scars on them.

Wishful thinking but I hope they distribute the upcoming workload fairly, not only because it's morally right but because we shouldn't be causing collateral damage in the process of securing justice.

Eww, 337 is a lot.

8tb of...
I would start the punishment by the slow removal of all fingernail and toenails via red hot pliers and move on to using a splintery chopstick to shove the removed nails up their peehole.
That would be day 1 of a life sentence filled with such things for supporting this shit.
Yeah! Punish those sickos by acting like a disgusting inhuman sadist! Mmmm, that'll definitely help all the past and future child victims of sex fiends. Only an especially balanced and healthy individual could carry out that kind of vile revenge.

I don't know about you but I totally want society's justice system to regress to primitivism. We'd definitely be the good guys in your vivid scenario.

Chill with the 18 months, no way he isn't getting extradited somewhere for this.

I feel like people keep bringing this up have completely missed the point about him only getting 18 months for his prior pedophile activities: because he only got 18 months last time, this is why he was able to continue running this site. 18 months for anything pedophilia related is fucking embarrassing. Children hurt through this kind of shit bear the scars for the rest of their lives, not a year and a half.

Wait, if the Feds are are reviewing child porn, does that meat that they're committing a crime? Also, I just realized that the FBI has the largest collection of child porn...

Also looks like Tor is still good as ever for hiding your identity, but that idiot misconfigured his site. And really, BUYING actual child porn on the internet? You may be hiding behind 7 proxies, but even that's still insanely dangerous.

I dunno, I feel like Americans treat possession of child porn more harshly than other countries. When it comes to child porn in the US, I feel like emotions plays heavily into the punishment of child porn laws more so than logic.

Only 337? Honestly was expecting more considering it was a "worldwide" operation

One user, Nicholas Stengel, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty to child porn charges late last year and was sentenced to 15 years in prison: prosecutors said that he alone downloaded more than 50 years worth of abuse videos.

So does that mean dude had 438000 hrs worth of child porn or stuff that was created over 50 years?

Like at the end of the day I know that this is a disease but the hoarding of videos never makes sense.

Tax stuff takes down some of the worst criminals. They got Capone on tax evasion, too.

That was because tax evasion was the easiest charge to get him with. The whole point was that it did not require much investigation since it was obvious from his lifestyle that he wasn't declaring his income.

In this case it doesn't seem like it was even a tax-related investigation.

Only 18 months? The fuck. Why isn't the guy locked away for life

18 months in South Korea. He just got indicted in the US; that's what caused the article to be written. Presumably he will be extradited and convicted to a much longer sentence. The article mentions one of the people convicted in the US already got 15 years.

Cases like this are often broken open due to following the money in some way or another, which is definitely in the IRS' wheelhouse. Hey, whatever it takes when it comes to this heinous shit.

Sadly, it's a problem that will never go away, just like murder, thievery, etc. Best we can do is catch them red handed. At this point, does it mean it's part of human nature?
I mean it's just like any attraction humans can have isn't it? Not like these people are choosing to be attracted to children, they're just unlucky and have to find a way to not act on their urges at all.
