It's the same. It's FAKE.
Almost everything in that image is identical from the fencing on the left to the arched stone temple looking things. Calling fake also.

Odyssey was absolutely incredible.

If this is more of the same, but with Vikings, sign me the fuck up

All in on this. Bought Odyssey after continuing to see praise for the game. I was never an AC fan but I'm absolutely loving Odyssey.

AC Odyssey has so much interesting content though. Don't forget that The Witcher 3 has so much bloat as well.

Witcher 3 is just as bloated lol

Lol W3 is bloated with good content. Story, side missions and contracts all fit in the game nicely. I also enjoyed Origins quite a bit.

Odyssey has a massive map, that is empty and boring to me. The story is interesting, but artificially extended trough level gating. Also you cannot deny the combat is relatively bland, create 3 adrenaline points --> powerful attack: rinse n repeat. The constant loading rubs me the wrong way too. Takes me out of the game.

but my main thing: the question marks in witcher 3 were exciting and meant something... in odyssey not so much?

Will they bring back mini-games, though?
Those have been gone since Black Flag.

Can't rightfully call yourself an RPG if you don't have a time-wasting mini-game. (See gwent in Witcher 3, caravan in Fallout: New Vegas, pazaak in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the casino in Dragon Quest XI, etc)
Honestly, this and higher quality production values is all that's missing from Odyssey. I need better horse animations and more minigames and deeper interaction/random events in the game.

Well found, that makes it clear this "leak" is fake. Totally weird that someone would bother putting this much effort into faking details of an AC game that we already know the setting of, but I guess there's no accounting for what some people find funny.

As I mentioned in my first post. I'm thinking that this is fake, too. The combat stance the character is in looks like an animation I worked with, too. I can't find a video of it, but I think it's in this one: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/animations/sword-and-shield-animset-pro-26876

Really fuckin hope this is true.

Eliminate arcadey bullshit and focus on Immersion, Ubi.
I would agree with this. I can always go back to Odyssey for the arcady stuff. This new assassin's creed should be a trimming down of the fat and precise refinement of the pillars that made Odyssey so good with strong production value and really involved world interaction. They should really benchmark agains RDR2 for this new game.

I really need to play a modern AC game. I have hit a mental blockade whenever I see any AC game now, year after year.
Premise sounds promising though. But map littered with Question mark is a gigantic no for me seeing their legacy.

I LOVED origins and odyssey. This sounds like a fantastic evolution of that formula, particularly the emphasis on exploration. I hope we get mythological creatures again as well. I cant wait to play this on the next xbox!

I still haven't played Odyssey yet, and I imagine that I won't be finished with all its "content" until this goes on sale.

Constant loading? what? There are no more often loading screens than W3. When you get into the world the only time you'll meet a loading screen is fast travelling & going into instanced mission specific zones (just like W3, except also Gwent)

Yeah man those monster pits were suuuper exciting and meaninful... come on. Skellige in itself is a complete joke when it comes to the ?'s, specifically the sheer amount of underwater smugglers caches. Tedious and boring, and thats coming from someone who loves Witcher 3.

Still waiting for the GOW reference in this game.
Also I bet cross-gen support would be only for resolution and maybe FPS this time and not about much better graphics like most of cross-gen titles.

But BOTW isn't a game about removing question marks from your map. BOTW is a game about exploring for the sake of your own curiosity. That's what made BOTW so special.

I think what they are saying is they are removing the question marks that were in Origins and Odyssey. Those were inspired by the Witcher 3, and are now going for a BoTW style of "there are no indicators on the map"

Monsters to me were exciting, and relatively unique in approach. Also do not think I did those smuggler caches, because guess what? OPTIONAL.
Its not rose tinted glasses either. I played the witcher 3 on release, but the 2 dlc contents only last year.

Whereas in odyssey, I am trying to find person x, but hold up! I am a lvl below recommendation so need to grind out some silly stuff just in order to continue the story which is picking up steam.

Do not get me wrong. Odyssey is a fantastic game. I personally would have prefered a tighter and focused game. Where me performing certain actions or doing side missions meant something.
- for example: How cool was it that your home-island got infected. Alexios even says that he should check on home: once there, nothing to be done lol. Also nothing like that happens further on the game (so far: lvl 25)

The Witcher 3 has level gating too. Not all question marks in The Witcher 3 were exciting or meant something. The majority of them weren't exciting. Bandit camps were boring compared to AC. Treasures were done better in AC. Monster nests were exciting and meant something? come on!

Hope that game will be better than the current Atlantis DLC. Because it looks like you basically need a guide to unlock the good ending in the DLC. I hate shit like this, just tell me what the good option is, I want to play the game not read a fucking guide.

Smells like bullshizzle but wouldn't be surprised if gist of it happens to be true.

Except co-op not really sure how that'd work out in nu creed though theoretically it could I guess

Any timeframe for when this might be? As in, post/pre Origins, post/pre Odyssey, post/pre AC1, etc?

I like the setting, Nordic culture is pretty cool, though after GoW I'm not sure this will have the same impact. Regardless, I would have prefered Ancient Rome before this. Shame they don't show us their version of the Roman Empire.

Goddamn, that sounds great. I've been hoping for a viking setting ever since the new generation of AC games kind of de-emphasized climbing tall buildings.

Well, regardless of the fact that this leak is fake, we know the next AC is set during the Viking era. That narrows it down to being set between the late 8th Century and late 11th Century (and most likely 9th or 10th Century), so definitely way past Origins, and definitely pre-AC1.

If its fake that's too bad, making the exploration more open ended and less guided seems like a good change for this type of setting

AC Scandinavia would be far different given that the game isn't about Dad & Son fighting gods.

Interesting! Seems like they're definitely building up to AC1 with this "Ancient" series of games. Wonder if they'll stop there or if the end goal is to then remake the older (main) AC games in the style of these new ones.

On the other hand, jumping that much in time means the order will very much be established as an entity (even if they're not called Assassin's yet), since we know that happens in Origins. Same goes for the Templars of course.

I suppose, but what folks like me (aka, not really well versed into Scandinavian & Nordic cultures at all) mostly imagine is Vikings + Gods :P Hence, GoW sorta stealing that thunder from it, per say. I'm sure AC would find a way to deconstruct all the myths and legends of the regions and give it their own twist on things, as they've mostly done so far with all entries.

Dudes, both Odyssey and Origins leaks were accompanied by a "fake" UE3-made image. In the end they turn out to be mostly true.

They probably come from someone who works early in the development chain.

Map seems insanely large. UK alone is what, 5x the size of Greece?

It'll probably be massively scaled down versions of key areas across East Anglica: Lindisfarne in Northumbria for example. I don't think we'll get Mercia or London. Although that said, cross-gen so maybe they're going super ambitious.

I think they're probably not working towards an overall grand plan of hitting the timeframe of the old games and then remaking them, I think they're just bouncing around settings that they're interested in and that work with their current gameplay style. The survey they did pre-Odyssey had lots of different time periods on it and I think that probably reflects their current intentions pretty well:

QDCPrUz.png

This was before Odyssey was announced (though it was well into development by then). I imagine we are going to see at least a few more of these in future, although of course plans can change drastically depending on how individual games perform.

On the other hand, jumping that much in time means the order will very much be established as an entity (even if they're not called Assassin's yet), since we know that happens in Origins. Same goes for the Templars of course.
Yep, this is probably why whoever made the leak made sure to say that the player was an assassin - probably anything set after Origins is going to include the assassins under some name or other. I don't think that'll necessarily mean much though, since we've seen that different regional branches of the order can exist and can sometimes struggle to communicate.

So it's basically going to be Witcher 3 : Skellige islands without fantasy elements (even though they were in Origins and Odyssey) and without as good writing, right?
