Just because you rename a flaming trash heap doesn't change the fact it's still a flaming trash heap.

Why the fuck would any company willingly choose to advertise on a site where users repeatedly call one another racist & homophobic slurs, music piracy runs rampant, and there's a non-zero chance that some angry user could post child porn?

Why don't they just delete the crap until they get fed up and leave. Is there already some even greater cesspool out there they can go to.
Probably because shitposting in general is why people go to the site I imagine. No one is going there for intellectual deep dives (aside from probably niche threads on niche boards) but deleting the crap would just kill the site.

It's like asking Twitch chat to stop spamming or using dumb memes.

What's r9k? I don't even want to Google it.

r9k sure is something. Originally it started as a experimental board where no post can be a duplicate, ensuring that posts have to be completely unique. But the culture that developed was of self loathing. In a lot of ways it was the precursor to the phenomena of incels. Users called themselves "robots" and lamented being unable to find a gf. I believe at least one user committed suicide on stream

The prequel to /r/incels

People going to extra effort to be lonely and miserable is the most self fulfilling prophecy ever. I would bet that way more than half those people would have just found out how to get a girlfriend by trial and error or time, or new jobs, social circles. but the path they're choosing guarantees that they become the very thing they claim they don't want to.

I think that's a group of people that could genuinely be improved just by detaching themselves from the feedback loop.

Pretty sure Elliot Rodger posted on the board too.

Can't imagine how big the duty for sfw mods must be. Swinging the hammer at those that post nudity/racism/whatever on a sfw board, which made the site insufferable and almost unable to have a civil thread.

Also I can't really picture how a sfw board would work, especially on 4chan. I guess nsfw content must be spoilered or else

Maybe they should just delete the whole site and never sell the domain, see what happens.

I really liked the /x boards around 2008-2011 but yeah I couldn't go back there after that. That place is an infection that starts to effect people with it's culture.

Could've avoided all this if m00t got rid of /pol/ when fucking everyone was begging him to.

Isn't most of the site infected by /pol/ and /b/? I mean, what's splintering really going to accomplish.

Hope it fails and hope they fail to get advertisers.

There are janitors who can delete posts. Believe it or not but the blue sfw boards generally avoid posting nsfw content.

4chan -- one of the many great social experiments in understanding how the spread of ideas can indeed be dangerous as fuck.

Is the place full of bots, like Russian bot central that pushes a lot of the horrible, society destroying stuff?

Might help the blue boards in the long run, but the problem isn't the porn boards, it's /pol/ and /r9k/ specifically, so this is a half measure at best. Probably to get ad money back

/pol/ has already infested the blue boards. At least they infested /v/ and /tv/ from what I can tell.
I'm surprised they didn't filter SJW into something else like they did with Soy.

I wouldn't have even deleted it, didn't he play cuck porn audio in the background of /pol/ for a day?

Should have just kept doing specific shit to fuck with them until the traffic flat-lined.
They merged it with the my little pony board for a day and /pol/ took about a week to recover the traffic they lost. Before that day they used to say that in the event they ever got deleted they'd take over /mlp/ to drive the bronies out into the rest of the site but when forced to share a board they're the ones who left.

On the one hand nobody wants to advertise on a site that's become notorious for white supremacy and incels, but on the other hand that's what drives the numbers these days for him. If Hiro deleted /pol/ and /r9k/ and cracked down severely on bigotry, a huge amount of posters would jump to 8chan or some other site. He might get more advertisers but less clicks.

Should have just shut down when moot left. The only thing worthwhile now is /gif/.

I know old dudes IRL that talk about 4chan as "the hacker board with Qanon"...so it's at least at the point where it should be uncool and susceptible to dying off. Splitting the boards off is a half-assed move; it just needs to not exist, full stop. Shut down the whole thing, and then maybe later they can come back with some new anonymous image boards in the 4chan style.

man you should have seen the Detective Pikachu thread on /vp/. dumpster fire didn't even begin to describe it
Oh yeah that was a mess, I remember seeing a bunch of people who hadn't been in there in a year being really weirded out at how obsessed they were with the main actor being black.

Utterly stupid split.

Get rid of shit like pol completely and have sfw site and a 18+ porn site.

/pol/ only exists to recruit so cutting their access to the the most popular boards is an important deal

now let's hope hiro actually follows through with it

I think many posters feel a large part of the cancer infesting the site is unironic old boomer fucks driven to post on pol due to Trump maga shit prior to the election and then qanon

I'd like to see traffic figures. The impression I have since leaving is that every board besides /pol/ and /v/ is slowly dissolving.

Outside of /pol/ is 4chan even still relevant in 2018?

I personally haven't visited since 2015 and even then I only visited one or two boards on the regular.
