HP OMEN Transcend

Source
We're starting things off with great news for those who love big screens: the HP Omen Transcend 16 also gets an update for 2024. Besides new Intel Core Ultra processors and up to Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics, HP's gaming flagship also gets a new 240Hz OLED screen and many AI improvements.

The Transcend lineup is completed by the new OMEN Transcend 32 UHD 240Hz OLED Gaming Monitor. As the name implies, it's a 32-inch gaming display with a refresh rate of 240Hz. It's also 4K, with a peak brightness of 1000 nits (HDR). The new monitor supports both AMD FreeSync and Dolby Vision.

It uses Omen Tempest Monitor Cooling Technology to reduce burn-in, and it has KVM functions built into it, making it the first gaming monitor with independent switchable USB ports.

In terms of connectivity, it has 1 DisplayPort 2.1, 2 HDMI 2.1, 1x USB-C® upstream (Full-featured, DisplayPort Alt mode, Power delivery 140W), 3x USB-A 3.2, 1x USB-C 3.2, and 1x USB-C with for data connection (15W).

LG 32GS95UE

Source
The First Dual-Hz Gaming Monitor to Offer 4K 240Hz / FHD 480Hz

The groundbreaking 32GS95UE is the first UltraGear monitor equipped with the new Dual-Hz feature, allowing users to switch between 4K (3,840 x 2,160) at 240Hz and Full-HD (1,920 x 1,080) at 480Hz with one simple click. This time-saving innovation, easily managed via a hotkey or joystick's directional switch, lets users instantly apply the optimal combination of screen resolution and refresh rate for the genre of game they're playing. For fast-paced action titles and shooting games, users can select FHD 480Hz, while visually rich story-driven games can be enjoyed in 4K 240Hz.

In addition to the Dual-Hz feature, the 32-inch UltraGear OLED possesses an impressive 0.03ms (GtG) response time that helps eliminate motion blur, boost clarity and deliver dynamic gameplay. This, combined with the exceptional color and contrast that LG's self-lit OLED technology is known for, takes the visual experience to a whole new level.

The 32GS95UE further enhances the user experience with its minimal screen bezels and powerful, nuanced sound. LG's 4-side virtually borderless design provides a stunning display that doesn't distract from the on-screen action. The monitor creates an exhilarating, three-dimensional soundscape with Pixel Sound technology and an integrated front-facing sound system featuring two woofers and support for DTS Virtual:X. The speakers are cleverly hidden behind the OLED panel itself, eliminating the need for external speakers and saving valuable desk space.

Funny to see Asus and LG both claiming to be first with the dual res/hz modes.

Pipe dream monitors for me although still waiting on something with mini-LED or similar to remove chance of burn-in. The monitor market sure is looking great on the premium end.

It's happening. It's finally happening.

Next step, microLED...

edit: I also really appreciate that more monitors are doing built in KVM with 100+ W PD.

So in theory if you were to switch to the 1080p mode it wouldn't suffer from odd resolution scaling and look as good as a native 1080p image at that PPI?

I love the idea of being able to switch between 4K240 and 1080p480 depending on the game.
One of these might be my next upgrade, from the 48C1 (4K120).
I've been wanting more than 120Hz for a while now. It's so limiting for some games.

Planning to grab one of these. I don't intend to use them for anything other than gaming, so the risk of burn-in should be fairly minimal. As long as it's okay for 5 or 6 years, I'd be fairly happy.

These are pretty much what I've been waiting for since the 42C2 is way too big for my desk. As long as the 2nd gen QD-OLED fixes some of the text clarity issues I'm in.

These look amazing but I almost wish they were 1440p. If I go 4K high refresh rate, I'm going to wind up "if you give a mouse a cookie"-ing myself into a 4090.

I will wait until there is an actual upgrade to my 48c1. Right now, it is good for monitor and tv, I just have a giant desk.

Unless it is an indie game or like Counterstrike, I barely get to 120fps in most games with the best settings.

Why 4K/1080p? 4K/1440p would be so much better at 32".
Because one pixel at 4K becomes 2x2 at 1080p.
1440p is a 'complex' scaling operation that would probably limit what the display could do.

I'd gladly take a panel that can do 5K240 / 1440p480 / 960p720 though.

These are LG WOLED panels, not Samsung QD-OLED.
QD-OLED does have some nice improvements, but also some drawbacks (like far less resistance to image retention, and worse color reproduction in darker areas).

Do any of these have release dates or prices announced?
Nothing so far.

Once we get these with Samsung's uoled tech I'll finally bite on my 4k primary monitor.
MicroLED at pixel densities required for monitors like these is probably a decade away.

I couldn't help myself and bought the Odyssey Neo G9 57". It will be used for work primarily, but work involves gaming so 🤷 It will be replacing two 32" 4k monitors I was already using with the big benefit that it is one entire screen instead of two. And my older monitors were not micro-led so the contrast ratio should be much improved.

Waiting on Dell to jump in for that good OSD and DDM but OLED 4K 240Hz at 32" means these are gonna be $$$$$$.

Oh congrats ! I was supposed to get it on day one after waiting for it all year, but i chickened out when i saw some people having issues with it.

Still, i'm curious to have your feedback on it... i still really want to buy it (but i'm waiting for a sale). My only complaint is that i won't be able to have the 240hz mode on it, since i have a 4090.

Sounds like a bunch of $1000-1500+ monitors.
And probably gonna have pretty low brightness outside the 2% window that can hit 1000nits.

Wake me up when they realize they need to ship all these with decent cooling and useable brightness levels... This whole 480hz thing is useless.

My work computer is a 3080. So I'll be stuck on 120hz. But that doesn't bother me, 120 is more than enough for me.
I'm curious to try it on my personal computer that has the 4090. But ultimately this is a work monitor for me.
Mine comes Thursday so I'll give some impressions later that week.

I don't get it, is it just like a preset?
Meaning you could just do the same thing via settings in the OS, but this is faster?

Or is there more to it, some new tech?

Maybe not 2024, but I plan to sell my 48" CX (which I love from a quality perspective but not from a convenience/size/usability perspective) and get something like this.

If they have like a 28" in 2025/2026 then I'd also consider that instead. I want that sweet pixel density.

Gonna go with the LG one over ASUS for having a clean bezel. The chin sticking out on the ASUS one is too much.

Right now I use a 55" LG CX on the side and an ancient Acer 27" 2k165 for my main

So built in integer scaling but only for 1080p and 2160p?

Hmm, it'd be cool to have modes for all supported resolutions that divide evenly into 4K like 720p and 480p... very niche but still.

I'm on a 34" UW and have been for many years, I don't know what it would be like to go back to 32". I don't really want to give up UW.
Otherwise that 32" sounds so good.

If they shrink this down to 24-27" it would be the competitive monitor to beat. 1080p/480Hz is very much aimed at the competitive scene, but I'm not sure what screen size is currently preferred.

Been aching for a good 4K / HDR / Gsync non-curved monitor in the 27" - 32" range and it looks like 2024 is finally the year.

Cursed thought but I wonder if that 4K OLED is going to be a pentile display. So 1080p won't just be for higher refresh, but for more color accuracy too.

To achieve 480hz, maybe its using two sets of pixels at 240hz each refreshed in alternation. Which might produce slightly funky effects compared to a standard full 480hz.

Isn't this just coming full circle back to interlaced video?

4k/1080p switch OLED sounds insane, but 1080p @ 32" doesn't sound too hot.

Someone please just make a 24" or 27" 1080p OLED!

Can't wait to ditch my junkass burnt-in Alienware for a proper LG OLED monitor. Gee, maybe I won't have to unplug and plug it back in twice a day!

Can it support 4k240hz at all? Because there isn't hardware with DP 2.0 iirc

I think the latest AMD cards come with DP 2.0. Maybe AMD had incredible foresight and 4k @ 240 Hz is the silver bullet for FSR's garbage image quality.

An interesting other option is a 5000(! - that's a lot, current mini led tech commonly on the market has been 2000ish) zone mini led monitor, 27" 4K - https://www.displayninja.com/new-monitors/#Redmagic

Not confirmed for western release but the more interesting part is obviously that that's a panel being produced, so interesting to see if any more well known manufacturers make something with the tech.
