Reserved. I had planned on returning from 2017 last year but I bought too many games that saw me out of the running for this and Backlog Blitz.

2017 - 39
2018 - 17

Hoping to hit 52 this year or close to it at least.

Last year was the first time in 3 or 4 years that I failed the challenge, and it feels bad. Going to try to get back on the horse, but it's hard as I'm entering my final year of college as well

Tried a couple of times in the past and never made it.
Reserving and will update when I have a bit more time.

* Started before 2019
BOLD - First time finishing

1: Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep* - 24 Hours (01/01/19)
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would after quitting CoM, I guess that's the odd one out when it comes to non-console games on the Final Mix versions as I'm also enjoying DDD so far. I did find it a bit annoying that there were so many cutscenes that overlapped, and because I was worried there'd be something new at the end I couldn't skip them, having to fight the boss in RG 3 times was also a bit much. Played through on Standard and got the Secret+Extra chapters.

2: Octopath Traveler* - 59 Hours (10/01/19)
Beautiful game with great combat, the shorter more intimate stories were enough at the start but since I hadn't read up on much beforehand I was under the impression that things would start linking together in the later chapters. Party interaction is something I love in RPGs, and it being limited to little cutaway dialog scenes just didn't feel right. Having just the 1 character in cutscenes then getting a + where 2 characters talk about the situation they're in is a bit jarring. REALLY? All 8 of you were clumsy enough to fall down that tiny hole? Loved Haanit but they reallyen overdidden iten with ye olde English text.

3: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy* - 6 Hours (12/01/19)
After playing Uncharted 4 I was happy with them closing the series out, now I really want a new Chloe game. Perfect length, decent puzzles and not flooded by too many shooting gallery segments. While I appreciate the art style and charm, after playing mostly Kingdom Hearts and Octopath Traveler for a while, it was a real treat returning to something as beautiful as a Naughty Dog game.

4: Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance - 20 hours (14/01/19)
The first game I've started and finished this year. A step down from BBS for me, but still enjoyable up until the last gauntlet, Riku's final stretch sucked, took me a while to be able to reliably avoid the attacks causing me the most grief. I probably should have started the series sooner as I'm getting a bit burned out, but only 1 game and a movie left. Then a couple weeks off before 3. The worlds were all a bit disappointing, and having to do each twice made it worse (Traverse Town 4 damn times..). Controls were great, but I'd put this above CoM and KH1, but a long way short of 2/BBS.

5: Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Fragmentary Passage - 2.5 Hours (15/01/19)
Some performance issues aside, this was short and sweet. Kinda feels like KH2 and BBS had a baby, which is fine by me. Just as I was starting to get burned out on KH, this upped my hype levels for KH3. For Kingdom Hearts as a whole, I didn't find the story confusing, just all over the place and I feel a bit bad for people who either jump in at 3, or only played the PS2 games.

6: Super Smash Brothers Ultimate* - 16 hours (20/01/19)
Played through world of light on easy, never played Smash before, so didn't want to struggle too much. 91% completion and got the "true ending", it was kinda fun, but really dragged on, especially the final stretch. Heard how it was a great story mode..there was a story? So much of it just seemed repetitive, but I did really like the times it went into themed areas like Street Fighter or Castlevania and wish it was much shorter but with a lot more like that.

7. Resident Evil 2 Remake - 11 hours (27/01/19)
An amazing remake of an amazing game, loved every second of it, still need to do Claire A/Leon B but it's already a strong contender for my GOTY, the 2nd half of the RPD section is some of the most tense and satisfying gameplay I've experienced in a long time. The only part I was a bit iffy on is the back end of the Sewers, I really hope this is more successful than Capcom expect and leads to either RE3 or Dino Crisis getting the same treatment.

8. Limbo - 2 hours (12/02/19)
I've had this sitting in my backlog for years and finally got around to giving it a proper go, neat puzzles and interesting mechanics and art style. That's about it.

Update: January 2nd, 2019
Metro-2033-Redux-01.png

Game 2: Metro 2033 Redux (PC) (6 Hours) (4/5)
Main Story Beaten

Metro 2033 is a game I've started a few times in the past but never finish, decided to go all the way on this one considering Exodus is on it's way. I wish I'd finished this earlier cause god damn this is such a good game. It has amazing shooting, amazing atmosphere, incredible soundtrack, excellent story and pretty much everything you could ask for. I didn't realise how good this game was til about half way through the game when you first enter the library, which was by far one of the scariest moments in any game I've ever played. There are some nitpicks I have however, the AI isn't amazing and there's a lot of recycling of gameplay ideas. The bad ideas like the driving segments are gone pretty quickly, but you'll see a tunnel of Nosalis pretty often throughout the game.

Amazing game all the way through, going to start Last Light now. I'm getting more and more excited for Exodus

This seems like fun. im going to take part in this and see how many games I actually finish in a year!

1. Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood
Hit max level and saw the credits. Then did all the current MSQ available up to the latest patch.

2. Spider-Man PS4 + City that Never Sleeps DLC
100% Main Story and DLC.

3. Monster Hunter World PC
Completed Main Story and continued to hunt for many hours. Monster Hunter always sucks away my time.

Reserved. Last year didn't work out as planned, but going to try this year again (no promises to get all way to 52).

1. Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow (NDS)
Good game, infinitely better with automatic seal drawing patch. Got the best ending.
2. Mega Man 3 (NES)
I have owned this game for 25 years and still learn new life saving techniques. Great game.
3. Mega Man 4 (NES)
Not as good as 3rd game but still OK. Quite a few questionable design choices.
4. Mega Man 5 (NES)
Easily better than Mega Man 4. Good game.
5. Mega Man 6 (NES)
Loved the level design, even if the game was much easier than previous entries.
6. Mega Man 2 (NES)
Had to play this as well. Great game but you better beat that Wily stage 4 in one try.
7. Mega Man (NES)
Easily the hardest of them all. So many broken things balanced by pause trick.
8. Mario's Keytastrophe Rebirth (SNES)
My favourite Super Mario-hack so far. Great puzzles but ended too quickly.
9. Super Mario Bros 3 (Super Mario All-Stars) (SNES)
Still a classic and one of best games ever. Remake holds very well to original.
10. Super Mario Bros 2 - Lost Levels (Super Mario All-Stars) (SNES)
Good difficult level design but bad controls ruin the experience quite a bit.
11. A Boy and His Cursor (Zelda Classic-quest) (PC)
Fun little puzzler, although fairly easy. Minus from unskippable cutscenes.
12. Fire 'n Ice (NES)
Why haven't I played this before? One of my all-time favourites now.

I've come to terms with the fact I'll never actually achieve this, but in the case I can prove myself wrong, I'll edit this post in the far future

A 2D Metroidvanai-style game in which you play as a priestess that journies to the kingdom of Karst to seal an evil that is destroying the land.
The game is rather tough on Normal as enemies can knock off around 1/3 of your health though generally enemies can easily get trapped in hit stun indefinitely when you attack them with your melee weapon. I overall found it a solid 2D action game, and recommend it to anyone who likes 2D Action adventure games or Metroidvania-style games.

I hit 52 in our inaugural year are Resetera but 2018 was a busy year so I only got ten completed (final summary). I think this year probably swings more towards 2018 than 2017 in terms of commitments so I suspect I won't make it again but I love this thread so will totally be trying regardless.

Well done to those who made in 2018 (and to those who didn't but still contributed), thanks to Wozzer for once again looking after the thread and last but not least, good luck and god speed to all those participating this year.

Love the hacking toys. Leads to lots of creative ways to "solve" rather than complete missions.

Characters are fun and though cliché are nicely written (though with a few glaring moments of PIS). I wonder if a lot of the reasons they get criticised is that a lot of the puns and plays on hacker culture are a little too close to home for folk who love their "memes".

Surprisingly tough on my PC.

Game #16: Grand Theft Auto V
- R* North/R*
Format: PS4
Completion State: All 100% requirements + a few others complete, platinum trophy.
Completion Date: 14/June/2015

Second time through (PS3 platinum as well) and still just as good. Yes, the story, characters and pace are far from perfect, it's humour is fairly base and the gun-play isn't as good as Max Payne 3 but the scale, scope and setting are un-matched.

I could drive around SA online or offline all day long and not get bored. Great game. Really great game.
_____
Like the character switching (Merryweather heist is simple example switching m and f for stealth on boat)

Playing on a platform where performance is no longer issue makes it even better.

Playing with my better half, taking turns on the manual and the screen.
Excellent concept, pulled off with excellent style. Pretty sure we'll be playing this one for awhile.

I finished my first game of 2019 this morning. And I've been bummed out all day as a result.

JRFmoHi.jpg

That's because I'll never be able to play Obra Dinn for the first time again. :(

What a genuinely remarkable experience this was. It feels so fresh, and it's incredibly clever in how it turns some obvious indie budget limitations into strengths. I think the game look absolutely stunning for a start, and so many aspects come together to create this extremely unique package.

I don't want to spoil anything, but this game really makes you feel like Spider-Man a detective. There's so many ways that the game provides you with clues, and the 'aha!' moments come fast and often. I have to give major props to the voicework and sound effects - they're absolutely fantastic. I really enjoyed the music, too, and can't stop humming the main themes.

I've never played Papers, Please before, so I bought it today and have chalked that up as my next game to play. If Obra Dinn is anything to by, then Lucas Pope is a genuine auteur developer and I'm super excited for his next project. I also really hope someone just completely and shamelessly copies this formula. I need more games like this.

It took me 10 hours and 42 minutes for 100% completion. 10/10

Here we go!

Reserving this. Managed 79 last year, can I match / exceed that number this year?

1. Her Story (Mobile) - 16/01/19 - ~4 hours (Credits)

Massively late to the party on this one, but fuck me, what a game. Easily the best use of the FMV format I've played.

The game does so many interesting things with developing narrative, totally eschewing the codes and conventions of linear storytelling. At its core, the game has you search a video database using key words. Using the clips you find, you're asked to attempt to piece together what happened in what is ostensibly a crime story, using half of a two way conversation. The interviewer is never heard or seen, so all narrative comes from the responses of the interviewee.

Despite the game offering the player total agency over how they approach the story, revelations and twists are able to provide genuine shocks and thrills.

It's super cheap on mobile and PC - please go and play it if you haven't already.

2. Guitar Hero [Clone Hero] (PC) - 19/01/19 - ~20 hours (all songs 7-starred)

Clone Hero has changed my life. Seriously.

I have played thousands of hours of Guitar Hero and Rock Band over the years, but really lost the impetus in the last couple owing to the lack of releases / proper support. Harmonix have been fantastic at piping new content into RB4, but after selling my Xbone a few years back when it became clear I only really played my PS4 I've had no real way to scratch the rhythm game itch.

As an early Christmas present, my brother bought me a USB X360 guitar, and after a bit of setup, I've basically played Clone Hero for at least an hour or so daily for the last 2 months. The reverse engineered, community authored game is able to play note charts from any legacy title, and has a huge community authoring new charts on a daily basis. I have more songs installed than I can possibly play.

To make the game seem more manageable and purposeful, I decided to try and beat each legacy game in turn, attempting to 7-star (the new highest score rating available) each track from their original setlist. First up, 2005's Guitar Hero with its 47 track setlist comprised of covers of popular songs, as well as independent music from a variety of Harmonix-associated bands.

Most songs fell pretty easily on first or second try (remember, I have been playing this franchise for over a decade now), but the final track, the truly dire 'Decontrol' by Drist, honestly took nearly 200 tries. The scoring meta game, maximising your star power multiplier by deploying it across particularly lucrative runs of notes becomes a real tactical endeavour when you're 100 runs deep, and I'd guess at least half my play time could be attributed to this one track.

Still, all done. Onto GH2!

3. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (Netflix) - 22/01/19 - ~3 hours (All Endings)

Of course it's a game, there's a little control pad icon at the top of the Netflix listing.

I joke, but Bandersnatch was at least as interactive as Late Shift which I beat last year on the PS4. Bandersnatch is a unique proposition: a choose your own adventure episode of Black Mirror. Where it suffers is in its writing rather than execution. The game / episode itself moves along as you'd expect an FMV game to, with choices quickly shifting the direction of the scene with relatively few hiccups or obvious seams. However, the writing itself just isn't up to the high standard set by Black Mirror's regular episodes.

Asim Chaudhry seems cast more for his in vogue status in British television right now, and his background in comedy acting lets down scenes where he needs to offer that bit more than straight comic relief. Equally, the usually reliable Will Poulter just doesn't put in a particularly convincing shift.

I played through with two different friends, and managed to secure all endings through regular play rather than resorting to a flow chart of decisions that starting doing the rounds on Reddit et al minutes after the shows release.

4. Car Quest (Switch) - 28/01/19 - ~10 hours (Credits)

Not great. Not bad, but not great.

An exploration based adventure that feels very N64 in its design. You control a car with incredibly floaty physics (think PSP classic Gripshift), solving traversal puzzles and collecting items to gradually unlock more of the world map.

Whilst most of its shortcomings can be forgiven seeing as it was designed and developed entirely by two brothers, I did encounter an almost game breaking bug where a vital platform despawned never to return. Luckily, an enterprising community of fans of Twitter were able to help me solve the issue, otherwise it's very unlikely I would have persevered to finish the game!

5. Full Throttle Remastered (PS4) - 31/01/19 - ~4 hours (Credits)

I fucking love Full Throttle. It's my favourite point and click, and one of my favourite games of all time because of its atmosphere - Full Throttle is positively dripping in atmosphere.

The Remaster manages to tart up the graphics without robbing the pixel art of its charm like the Monkey Island remakes, makes the two 'action' sections of the game less frustrating, and adds a heap of concept art plus a director's commentary which I'm keen to listen through at some point.

Get it bought if you've not played it. The puzzles fell pretty easily for me given how many times I've played the original over the years, but it's just such a joy to be in Full Throttle's world I didn't mind at all.

6. Bury Me, My Love (Switch) - 13/02/19 - ~2 hours (Credits)

This is a hard game to quantify. A narrative game that uses the codes and conventions of WhatsApp to give insight into the Syrian refugee crisis of the last few years.

A playthrough is short, around 2 hours, but there are almost 20 endings, with each playthrough offering around 15% of the available content at best.

I achieved what could be considered a good ending, I think, and am in two minds whether I have the nerve to try again, knowing how many things could have gone wrong for my partner on her trip.

What I found most fascinating was how similar to a text conversation the game felt at times - there were scenes that felt gripping, where I couldn't take my eyes of the screen for fear of what message would come through next, and there were times where I played only half concentrating.

7. Tetris 99 (Switch) - 14/03/19 - 75 hours [and counting] (23 wins [and counting])

Ok. Serious time. I am not going to make any progress in this challenge unless I acknowledge Tetris 99, a game I have dedicated almost all my gaming time to since its release. When I got my first win I thought 'right, that's that game beat', loaded Resetera, started typing, and then stopped. '5 wins would feel more like the game was done'. A week later: '10's a good number'. And so on.

Tetris is such a vital game. It's such a simple game. I find it absolutely mental that in the last year or so we've had Puyo Puyo Tetris, Tetris Effect and Tetris 99. Every one a different take on a now 30-odd year old format. Every one a 10/10, near faultless experience.

I am good at Tetris, but I could be better. This drive is what pushes me to hit 'restart' when I win, lose or come close with a podium finish. It's the best multiplayer game on the Switch, and the best multiplayer version of Tetris yet to exist. It's unlikely I'll stop playing any time soon, but I thought it absolutely deserved its place on this list, if only to quantify why it's been a month since I last beat anything.

8. Portal: Still Alive (X360) - 17/03/19 - ~3 hours (Credits)

I was a bit nervous playing through Portal again, as it's been the best part of a decade since I last ran through it. Its inclusion in the Orange Box for consoles was a masterstroke, pushing people who were desperate to play a decent console port of Half Life 2 and Team Fortress to play a first person spatial narrative puzzler was genius. At the time it was arguably the best title in that collection.

Playing in 2019 it was remarkable how little has been lost since its release. The mechanics are still largely unrivalled (except, I gather, for its sequel that I've yet to play), the writing is still sharp and blackly comic, and the runtime is perfect. Every story beat hits, every joke works, the premise is built up brilliantly before offering a genuinely brilliant twist. It also has one of the best comedy songs of all time play over its credits. Even the visuals hold up, as the game's stark lab aesthetic works to cloud its age.

A near perfect game. If you've never given it a go, get it played.

9. Photographs (Mobile) - 10/04/19 - ~4 hours (Credits)

Wow. Luca Redwood had already proven himself as a great mobile game designer and great puzzle game designer in my eyes with the one-two punch of 10000000 and You Must Build a Boat, but I really wasn't prepared for such a unique title to follow though.

I'd heard a bit of hype surrounding Photographs upon its release, so it seemed a good title to try on my new tablet. Across two days I've been blown away. Five short stories presented through a combination of gorgeous pixel art, considered voice work, and puzzle frameworks that further the narrative via careful circumvention of form and function. There are next to no tutorials, yet the game flows well, very rarely allowing the player to become lost.

The stories are heavy - make sure you're in the right frame of mind when starting this game. We're talking super dark, surprised-Apple-didn't-require-changes-be-made in places.

As far as I can tell it's only available for iOS at present, with an Android port to follow. If you have the means, get it bought. Much unlike almost anything else available at present.

10. Brothers (PS4) - 11/04/19 - ~4 hours (Credits)

Played and thoroughly enjoyed A Way Out last year, so it seemed fitting to finally play Brothers this year.

This is a much better, more artful game than AWO. Although it's billed as a one player co-op game, the way the controller is split in two means you can play just as easily with a second player, sharing the dualshock equally.

The ending, for me at least, was made more poignant because of this choice. The proximity you're forced to play in means that when things are changes and subverted both players really feel it.

A great game which still looks absolutely gorgeous today despite getting on for being 7 years old now and having its roots in previous gen tech and hardware.

11. 1979 Revolution: Black Friday (Switch) - 15/04/19 - ~3 hours (Credits)

How do you write about a game like this? Its a narrative adventure game in the vein of Telltale's predominant output post-Walking Dead success, or Life is Strange yet based on real events of the Iranian civil revolution of the late seventies, following real figures from the movement.

Its made on a comparative shoestring budget when compared to the other games mentioned, though carries with it more emotional weight because of its real world context. The bodies depicted in the background of some street scene are ostensibly real people, killed in protest. The characters you interact with are based on real people. The photos you find and the archive footage you unlock is real. This isn't a story, but rather a retelling of history.

Like Bury Me My Love, this is also another game that comes from a team comprised of individuals outside traditional development circles. The game does not shy away from the faith of the characters and no doubt many of the dev team, and it is absolutely fascinating to see Islam presented as a driving part of the individuals' motivations.

The game allows you to photograph elements in almost every scene, as well as collect artifacts from many chapters. These are then added to a log book that gives the game an almost edutainment wrapping.

Recommended to anyone who wants their narrative titles to have a bit more realism, and are interested in learning more about a chapter of history utterly ignored in the west.

12. Gun Mute (IF via Frotz) - 18/04/19 - ~1 hour (Credits)

I go through phases with the idea of interactive fiction. I explored the coding of it using Inform back when I was at uni, though never made much of value. I was always fascinated at how enterprising writers had used it to make more than infinite Zork copies though. I read about Gun Mute years ago on Destructoid I think through an Anthony Burch column, but it was only now when looking for thing I could do with my new iPad that I installed Frotz and and came across GM again when browsing the game database.

It's a very unconventional take on the genre - you progress down a linear path, solving puzzles that take the form of western style duels. The game takes place in a weird steampunk version of the old frontier with each adversary a robotic gunslinger that must be taken down through careful observation of movement patterns sand surroundings.

Absolutely worth a play for those who are patient and enjoy language.

13. Data Wing (Mobile) - 21/04/19 - ~3 hours (Credits)

Another stunning mobile game, and one that is inexplicably free: no strings attached. It's a narrative lead game, but it's also a racing game. Oh, and a physics puzzler. It's also seriously aesthetically confident, combining a soundtrack that presents itself as a love letter to the vaporwave genre, wrapped in a simple vector based visual style that uses heavy bloom. Its simplicity put me in mind of Thomas was Alone.

The rough conceit follows AI inside a 'machine, coveting the idea of being human. Giving any more away would harm the experience though. Each stage asks you to navigate through a maze, or through several laps of a course using a control scheme adapted from Asteroids. In execution, the grinding / boost mechanics make it feel far closer to F-Zero though. Just go and play it. Don't be surprised if you can't put it down. Gripping and addictive.

14. Cibele (PC) - 22/04/19 - ~1 hour (Credits)

Pfffft, what a hard game to write about.

It seems salient to consider Florence, a game I played last year, as being something that probably wouldn't have been made had it not been for Cibele's release a few years prior. Whilst Florence was a breezy, polished look at young post-millennial romance, Cibele feels more scrappy.

It's a narrative game, which almost conforms to some of the framework of a visual novel, though with more interaction. It explores a young, online romance between players of an MMORPG. Its tone was confusing throughout though.

There are moments of dialogue and events that ring really true - I remember being a young teen in the early 2000s, forging my way in a new online world, building what felt like important connections with people that in most cases I would never meet. However, there are parts of Cibele that feel too stilted where the pacing, or performance just let down the story that Nina Freeman is trying to tell.

Props have to go to Freeman herself though for producing a deeply personal game, even if it is only loosely autobiographical. The PC interface through which you spend most of the game interacting doesn't really hold up for me, but the nested folders of low resolution selfies, chat transcripts, etc really do and work to help you suspend your disbelief.

15. Deus Ex Machina (ZX Spectrum) - 23/04/19 - ~1 hour (Credits)

Is this a game? Or is it a concept album that happens to include video elements that can be interacted with? How on earth did this review back in NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR?!

What is impossible to ignore however is the game's importance in pioneering games as being more than just throwaway experiences or toys.

You play through the life of a 'defect', a being spawned in a dystopian future. Your actions, however slight they may feel, contribute to a life meter that drops steadily throughout the games 45 minute play time giving the title its 'game' status. As the supplementary audio cassette tape plays, the Spectrum renders scenes that follow the narrative. As the player you do little more than keep small icons and sprites moving as if balancing a line of spinning plates, but the weird sci-fi story, sold wholesale by the inclusion of John Pertwee and Ian Drury amongst others, keeps you interested for its run time.

A hassle to play in 2019 for sure, but absolutely worth digging out, if only to see that the modern indie obsession to experiential games had been done already some 30-odd years before it was 'cool'.

16. Deus Ex Machina 2 (PC) - 24/04/19 - ~1 hour (Credits)

A sequel / remake / successor to 1984's odyssey.

It's not great.

The game follows the original's storyline beat for beat, with many of Croucher's lyrics and writing repurposed by the new cast. The game itself plays poorly - each scene has you either avoiding or collecting certain objects (sometimes both!) while the audio washes over you.

Odd this time round is how new lyrics are out over existing music by artists as diverse as The Brand New Heavies - honestly not sure why, but there we go.

An experience for sure, but not a particularly good one.

17. Super Weekend Mode (Vita) - 28/04/19 - ~30mins (100% Trophies [PSN])

Another cynical release from Ratalaika games.

While I have to give the team credit for supporting the Vita right to its death, with fresh ports from either PC or mobile to Vita (and PS4 / Switch) dropping almost weekly at this point, their reliance on easy platinum trophies to reel in punters feels a bit grubby.

For what it's worth, Super Weekend Mode is an arcadey, high score chasing action game. You must control two paddles, each manipulated independently with their own should button. Each stage requires you to collect falling hearts, avoiding falling obstacles and enemies, whilst positioning your paddles to shoot a boss that hovers in the centre of the play field. Admittedly this doesn't make much sense to describe, but in execution, the game feels almost like a rhythm action title. A decent game, and one with such a small digital footprint it will probably sit on my Vita for quite a while even though it's been 'vanquished'.

18. Doki Doki Literature Club (Vita) - 05/05/19 - ~4 hours (Credits)

Well then.

Late to the party, of course, but even with a base understanding of what DDLC does, it's impossible to really know what it does.

This is a visual novel that totally fucks with the conventions of a visual novel. That is, the dialogue branches, the multiple playthroughs, even the way in which you save your story and use the built in UI to navigate the game.

I'm not going to spoil anything, but will say it's worth adhering to the content warnings on storefronts like Steam. It's tagged 'psychological horror' for a reason.

Props to the team who produced this unofficial port for PSP, Vita and Switch. The game received a lot of plaudits on release for how it used the workings of your PC itself to subvert expectations, yet remarkably the majority of this is retained for the handheld ports.

19. JackQuest (PS4) - 11/05/19 - ~4 hours (100% Trophies [PSN])

A short, decent enough, Indie Metroidvania.

Made by what I can only assume is a skeleton staff of one or two, JackQuest does little wrong, but little to innovate either. I gave it a blast knowing it was on the short side - there are many better games in the genre I've not played, but I felt I almost needed a brisk adventure to dip my toe in the water rather than diving head first into a lengthy genre great.

My biggest complaint with the game is the map. You don't have access to it at all until the midway point of the game, and when it becomes accessible, it's zoomed in to the point of being largely unusable for plotting routes. Additionally, discovered or traversed rooms are not marked, and despite the games limited size, the latter game was still a pain to navigate for this reason.

20. Old Man's Journey (Switch) - 15/05/19 - ~2 hours (Credits)

A gorgeous looking, but devastatingly sad wordless narrative puzzle game.

Originally a mobile title, each 'stage' has you manipulating the environment by poking or dragging elements of the landscape to give the old man of the title a clear path to the goal.

Despite lending itself to a touch interface I played on the TV using a controller and still absolutely loved it - the art is so good that it felt a waste to play through in handheld mode.

The game isn't a challenge once you get the hang of how it wishes to be played, but that doesn't stop it being a playful play through. Animated stills punctuate the story with top tier animation work helping drive the narrative forward.

The ending is semi-predictable, but no less heavy for it.

#21-40

This year is going to be a return to form for me. After beating 60 games in 2017 I only beat 10 last year. I still played a ton but it was a lot of the same ones like Rocket League and Overwatch so this year I'll be blasting through my backlog.

1) Spiderman - PS4 - 1/13

Fantastic game with satisfying combat and some of the most fun traversal I've ever played. I'll definitely 100% this before moving on to other games.

COMPLETED [1]
1: Killer Is Dead(1-2-2019) | 8/10 | Xbox one | ~ 7.5 Hours | Recommend: Y

# Overall - 8 | A fun hack and slash game with a Grasshopper story leads to an enjoyable experience
Gameplay - 8.2 | Fast hack and dodging up against a number of cool enemies and interesting bosses
Sound - 7 | Voice acting isn't great and the soundtrack has less hits than previous Grasshopper titles
Story/Online - 8 | The story is more tame but is still entertaining.
Asking Price- 8.33 | Decent number of levels as well as side missions to build a nice non bloated package

First down, only 51 to go!

Reserving a spot. A link to my Backloggery (where I keep track of every game I've ever played or would want to play, rather than a literal backlog) which I will also be updating. I didn't participate in this thread specifically last year, but I did pretty much the same idea. In there I kept track of every game I beat for the first time in 2018, so I think that's how I will be tracking things for 2019 since I always replay a lot too so that's not much of an accomplishment.

2018 - 60 games beaten
2019 - 54 games beaten

Game 1: Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare Remastered - PC - Completed 1/2/19
This should be a really good year of gaming for me, and I think this is a good start. Hopefully one of the games released this year is Modern Warfare 4.

Game 2: Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - PC - Completed 1/5/19
MW2 is a really good game, but it can be a bit of a slog compared to MW1 and MW3. I'm going to hold off on MW3 until we get closer to fall.

Game 3: Bulletstorm - PS4 - Completed 1/6/19
It always surprises me how much fun I have with this game, regardless of what platform I play it on. I had far to much fun trying to think of new ways to kill enemies.

Game 4: Gears of War 3 - XB1 - Completed 1/17/19
Working on this, Onimusha Warlords and Rise of the Tomb Raider all at once. Lucky to have such good games to play. Really enjoying my HD58x's a lot more than I expected.

Game 5: Rise of the Tomb Raider - PC - Completed 1/21/19
I enjoy this game so much more than Shadow. I guess that's what happens when a game actually has combat in it.

Game 6: Resident Evil 2 Claire A - PC - Completed 1/25/19
This is actually the first time I've finished any part of RE2. I loved every single moment of the game. Already looking forward to my next playthrough with Leon, and the subsequent flipped playthrough (Leon and then Claire).

Game 7: Resident Evil 2 Leon B - PC - Completed 1/28/19
Stayed up til 2 frickin AM finishing this up. Both sides of the game were great.

Game 8: Titanfall 2 - XB1 - Completed 1/29/19
It's gonna be tough for Titanfall 3 to live up to this campaign.

Game 9: Resident Evil 2 Claire B - PC - Completed 2/3/19
Woohoo I got the indestructible knife!! Leion A next.

Game 10: Resident Evil 2 Leon A - PC - Completed 2/7/19
Oh no, this isn't the end. I still have costume runs to do. I still have standard difficulty runs to do. I still have S run runs to.

Game 11: Quantum Break - PC - Completed 2/10/19
I forgot how good the combat was in this game. Really makes me hyped for Control.

Game 12: Forza Horizon 4 - PC/XB1 - Completed 2/19/19
This was really good, but the lack of showcase events as well as no proper "ending" sort of soured me a bit on the game. I still had a ton of fun. I think I just prefer FH3 more.

Game 13: Resident Evil 2 Leon A - PC - Completed 3/3/19
Standard run in just over 3 hours. Got the unlimited ammo pistol. Was quite the rush at the end there, but I came well under the 3:30 requirement. This leads to me next game...

Game 14: Resident Evil 2 Claire A - PC - Completed 3/3/19
Just a regular assisted run. I think I picked up every single item that I could and killed every single enemy that I could, even the ones putting their arms through the windows. The unlimited ammo pistol changes things a lot. Don't need to run away from Mr. X anymore. Just shoot him in the head a bunch and go back to whatever I was doing.
I really do prefer the Claire campaign. She has a good voice character and her, and her story, are just more likable.

Game 15: Devil May Cry 5 - PC - Completed 3/10/19
What a great game, and what a great start to the year.

Game 16: DmC - PC - Completed 3/17/19
It's hard not to compared this to DMC5 and it actually compares very well. Combatwise, DMC5 easily takes the cake. But DmC isn't exactly a slouch. But DmC has a lot more "game" mechanics. More platforming. More puzzles to solve. More thinking involved. Is it as good as DMC5? No. But it has aged very well.

Game 17: Resident Evil 2 - PC - Completed 3/24/19
Claire A standard. I've done a bunch of assisted runs as well, but I'm not counting them anymore.

Game 18: Resident Evil 7 - PC - Completed 3/29/19
Finished on normal. That's actually the first time I've finished it on anything other than easy. I died quite a lot because I'm not used to actual difficulty. DMC3 soured me on normal mode long ago. Maybe it's time to go back to it.

Game 19: Dear Esther - PC - Completed 3/31/19
My first walking simulator.

Game 20: What Remains of Edith Finch - PC - Completed 4/1/19
Fuck you, game.

Game 21: Assassin's Creed Odyssey - PC - Completed 4/25/19
From a 4 hour game to a 45 hour game. This is only the second AC game that I've ever finished. This and AC2. Just so many wonderful moments from my adventure with Kassandra. I don't think I'll ever forget it. RE2 might end up being my GOTY, but AC Odyssey is the best game I've played this year.

Game 22: The Evil Within - PC - Completed 5/18/19
Planning on doing TEW2 soon as well. I hope they show a new TEW game at E3.

Game 23: Gears of War 4 - PC - Completed 5/25/19
Haven't played much of the series this year. Planning to do one more series playthrough before Gears 5 comes out.

Game 24: Half Life 2 Episode 2 - PC - Completed 5/25/19
Aside from the protect Alyx section and the last section with all of the walkers, I completely forgot this game.

Game 25: Gears of War Ultimate Edition - PC - Completed 6/1/19
This just never gets old.

Game 26: Grand Theft Auto V - PC - Completed 6/7/19
This actually is not the first time I've finished the game this year. Probably the third or fourth. But I regularly play through the game, so I just wasn't counting them all. It's the day before E3. Hopefully we get some GTA or RDR news tomorrow.

Game 27: Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus - PC - Completed 6/16/19
Wolfenstein Youngblood is out next month, so I had to finish this off. I started it earlier in the year. Shotgun+anything is pretty OP.

Game 28: Wolfenstein The New Order - PC - Completed 6/21/19
The story is just so damn good. Wolfenstein 2 was good, but the story wasn't as well told. I don't expect Youngblood to be a great story, but it should be a lot of fun.

Game 29: Bloodstained Ritual of the Night - PC - Completed 6/22/19
I got the bad ending. Killed you know who. Pretty overpowered because I went really quickly for the holy great swords. I'll come back to this later and try for other endings and achievements.
Update: I forgot to mention that I did get the good ending of the game. I absolutely loved the game. I hope there's a sequel in the next few years.

Game 30: Wolfenstein The Old Blood - PC - Completed 6/23/19
Three games in three days. Not too bad. TOB is a pretty quick game. Runs pretty poorly, but it's still real fun.

Game 31: Max Payne 3 - PC - Completed 6/30/19
I enjoyed this FAR more the second time. This might be a game that I come back to every 2 or 3 years.

Game 32: The Evil Within 2 - PC - Completed 7/1/19
I think this was the first time I played the game on a controller. Had to put on aim assist or I'd never get a headshot. After E3 I'm a little worried that there won't be another Evil Within game again, but at least we got two good ones out of it.

Game 33: Alan Wake American Nightmare - PC - Completed 7/3/19
Combat is still solid, but there's not a lot of meat to the game. Just three levels repeated over and over.

Game 34: Resident Evil 4 - PC - Completed 7/12/19
Sometimes I just play a lot of third person shooters. Obviously that's what I've been doing lately. I'm working on Resident Evil 5 now.

Game 35: Resident Evil 5 - PC - Completed 7/17/19
It's a solid enough shooter, but the fall off from the recent TPS that I've played later is really noticeable. Wolfenstein Youngblood is out next week. That should be fun.

Game 36: Metro Exodus - PC - Completed 7/23/19
There were some low points in the game, but the high points were incredible. I don't think I'll forget driving around the caspian in my shitty van anytime, nor the final level to the game. It's rare for me to have completed every single game in a series, but Metro is one such series.

Game 37: Tomb Raider 2013 - PC - Completed 7/26/19
Not much to say here. One of my most replayed games of all time.

Game 38: Metro 2033 Redux - PC - Completed 7/31/19
Oh wow. I finished seven games in this month. That's pretty damn good considering how hot it has been.
I loved playing through this game. I did play through it once before long ago, but I honestly didn't remember 99% of it. I'm starting to wonder if I ever played through this game or not. Either way, the game was great and like Metro Exodus the game got better and better the more you got into the world. By the end I was running 2 silenced weapons and a shotgun. I didn't like the instant death sections, but dying didn't have a big penalty so I was OK with it.

Game 39: Metro Last Light Redux - PC - Completed 8/6/19
I remembered a lot more of this game. Now that I've finished all three Metro games in a short period of time I can definitively say that Last Light is the best of the three. 2033 and Exodus certainly have their moments, and both are absolutely 8.5/10 games, but Last Light is the most consistent. The most deserving of a 9/10.

Game 40: Gears of War 2 - XB1 - Completed 8/11/19
Gotta do my GearsoWarAthon before Gears 5. Have had this one the backburner for a while now.

Game 41: Battlefield 4 - PC - Completed 8/11/19
This was actually pretty good. The game continued to get better and better the more I played of it. I don't like the lack of a third option in the ending, but I can understand why there isn't one. Solid 7/10 game for me.

Game 42: Gears of War Judgement - XB1 - Completed 8/18/19
Didn't want to play Gears of War 3 right now, so I went with Judgement. I really do love this game. I wish there was a Judgement 2 with another side story and controller config. It's a fun game.

Game 43: Shadow Warrior (2013) - PC - Completed 8/20/19
It takes a while for the game to click, but when it does finally do so it feels great. I've had this game for years now. Not sure why I started finally playing it, but I think every game has a time and place. I guess this games time was now for me.

Game 44: Control - PC - Completed 8/30/19
What a crazy experience this was. I had some issues with combat and difficulty spikes, but otherwise I loved what I played of the game. I think I'll go back to finish off more of the game, even though there's no achievements in this version (yet).

Game 45: Wolfenstein Youngblood - PC - Completed 9/1/19
The game was certainly rough around the edges, and the overall design of the solo game is still a bit perplexing, but I got through it. The 1.05 patch made a huge difference. I wish it was launched with those fixes in place but alas, at least it was fixed eventually. I don't know if it's a game that I'll go back to, we'll see.

Game 46: Gears of War 5 - PC - Completed 9/6/19
Incredible. That's all I got. The game was incredible.

Game 47: Gears of War 5 - PC - Completed 9/9/19
The game is a lot quicker when you know where to go and what to do. I did a lot of the open world stuff this time around. I'm really looking forward to Gears of War 6 now.
Not sure exactly what I'll play next. I don't want to burn out on Gears 5.

Game 47: Gears of War 5 - PC/XB1 - Completed 9/13/19
Gears of War 5 3 times in a row? You're damn right. Played some of this on my crappy old XB1. I'm so used to the mouse now that aiming with the regular old controller kinda sucks. I prefer semi automatics with the mouse and full automatics with the controller. I tried normal difficulty, but the recoil is a little too much.

Game 48: Control - PC - Completed 9/18/19
Second play through was much better. Took advice from people here and changed around the control scheme to a more mobile setup. I also spent a lot more time finishing side missions.

Game 49: Bioshock 2 Minerva's Den - PC - Completed 9/21/19
I've only ever finished this DLC once before. I like that it tells a good story and doesn't stick around for too long. I really hope we get news about a new Bioshock sometime in the next year. I miss the series a lot.

Game 50: Gears of War 3 w/aftermath - XB1 - Completed 9/29/19
I really dragged ass on this one. Maybe I'll take a bit of a Gears break til next year. Still a really fun game. I still love the game.

Game 51: Call of Duty Advanced Warfare - PC - Completed 9/30/19
This was a really good month for me. It's still a bit creepy to see Kevin Spacey in the game, but I don't think his part in the game should ruin an otherwise excellent game. The flying section isn't particularly fun, but at least it's short and the last two sections make up for it.
I don't want Call of Duty to go in this direction again, but I have to say that I miss games like this. We're not getting a lot of linear FPS campaigns this generation and this one is still in the upper tier.

Game 52: World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth - PC - Completed 9/30/19
Max level on my human death knight. About 6 months ago I started on this character. My fiancee plays alliance on this server and I wanted to help her when I could. So I spent months leveling this character from scratch, without help from any of my other characters. 65 levels in that time. That's probably the most I've leveled on one character since The Burning Crusade. It was nice to have something that wasn't necessarily at the forefront of my gaming. I've probably played 30-40 games in that time span, while on worked on this one here and there.
So with that, I'm technically done the 52 game challenge again. But I'll finish some other titles to diversify it a little more.

Game 53: Inside - PC - Completed 10/2/19
This game is still bonkers.

Game 54: Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus - XB1 - Completed 10/5/19
Doesn't look quite as good as the PC version, but it runs pretty well. Aiming is god awful with a controller. It seems like the game was balanced around a keyboard and mouse. I still love the game. Lots of nazi shooting fun.

Game 55: The Last of Us - PS4 - Completed 10/8/19
OK.

Game 56: Gears 5 - PC - Completed 10/13/19
I've been playing some other games - Dead Space 2, COD IW and even a bit of Spyro. But I just felt like playing this again. Even on my lowest tiered system (i5 3450, rx 570) the game still plays really well. I'm really looking forward to Gears 6. I know we won't hear anything about it for at least 2 more years, but I know it's going to be great. I'm sure I'll play this some more before the end of the year.

Game 57: Call of Duty Infinite Warfare - PC - Completed 10/16/19
I don't know if there's a Call of Duty that closes out better than Infinite Warfare. Infinity Ward really set the bar high for their next game, which coincidentally comes out next week. Future me, I hope it's as good as Infinite Warfare.

Game 58: Call of Duty WWII - PC - Completed 10/20/19
Playable. That's about the highest praise that I can give this game. Though I suppose it's better than the no campaign that Black Ops 4 had.

Game 59: Dead Space 2 - PC - Completed 10/21/19
I'm always surprised at how little I remember from this game. I've finished it at least 6 times, probably more. I guess I've spread it out a bit over time. I really hope that someday we'll get another Dead Space game.

Game 60: The Outer Worlds - PC - Completed 10/27/19
This isn't normally my kind of game (I don't like dialog option and choices that effect the story), but I had a lot of fun with this. I may go back to some of my saves to play through different scenarios. Probably not this year though.

Game 61: The Evil Within - PC - Completed 11/7/19
Just a nice casual play through of a horror game. Slowing down a bit now that the 52 game challenge is done.

Game 62: Red Dead Redemption 2 - PC - Completed 11/25/19
Where do I even start? It's one of the greatest games that I have ever played. Maybe even the best. That's a good opening I suppose. You know a game was good when you're constantly revisiting it in your mind. You know that a story was good when you can remember every single characters name. 2019 was a great year of games for me. RE2, DMCV, Blodstained, Control, Gears 5, Metro Exodus, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and finally this game. RDR2 was such a good game that I've had trouble getting into other games, because they don't match up. I am so glad that I waited for the PC version. The game was stunning on PC. The sound design was incredible. The music was excellent.
I said, before I bought the game, that it's unlikely that I would ever replay the game. But here I am after a whopping 60 hours, and I miss Arthur and I miss the gang. I don't know if I'll ever finish the game again, but I can see myself starting a new game and playing into chapter 3. And I so look forward to that.

Game 63: Control - PC - Completed 12/7/19
It feels good to get better and better at something. Areas that I struggled with in my earlier playthroughs were easier this time. More aware. More observant. Better prioritization. I completely skipped the seize power entirely. Skipped the ground pound as well. They're useful, but not necessary.

Game 64: Resident Evil 2 - PC - Completed 12/8/19
Claire B. I've been playing this on and off for a while. I've played through game over 10 times this year alone. Suffice to say that I'm pretty burned out on the game.

Game 65: Call of Duty World at War - PC - Completed 12/14/19
I've only finished this twice or so now, and I forgot how much damn fun it was. I absolutely enjoyed it more than this years Modern Warfare title. It gives me a little bit of faith that Treyarch can make a great campaign next year.

Game 66: Control - PC - Completed 12/16/19
Fourth play through. I started a new game with no intention of playing through again for a while, but then they released free DLC that I had to check out. So I finished the game. I have not got tired of this game. It feels better each time I play it. I'm constantly learning new ways to get through encounters. I completely annihilate sections of the game that I used to struggle on. I'm looking forward to the next DLC.

Game 67: Resident Evil 7 and The End of Zoe - PC - Completed 12/21/19
End of Zoe was a blast. Loved punching the shit out of everything.

Game 68: Resident Evil 2 - PC - Completed 12/28/19
Leon A. Got the itch to play it.

Game 69: Gears of War Ultimate Edition - PC - Completed 12/28/19
Been chipping away at this for a good while. Got a G502 SE with a gift card from my brother and wanted to play something. This was it. I really wish Gears 2 and 3 were playable on PC.

Game 70: A Plague Tale : Innocence - PC - Completed 12/30/19
As it turns out, this was my last game of the decade. A pretty solid game to wrap it all up. It might not have the ambition or polish of other big games from era, but I really enjoyed it. The difficulty spikes were a little annoying, but that's the way difficulty spikes should be. The developers did a fantastic job of creating the game world. There was some clunkiness to the game, but Uncharted 1 was pretty clunky too. There's a lot to like in the game.

Game ??: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 - PC - Completed ???
I totally forgot to add this game. It was a good enough game, but not up to the insane standard that Infinite Warfare set. Too many shocking events just for the sake of shocking the player. The game didn't flow together very well either. Too many stops. Technically the game was perfect. I'm reviewing the game two months after I finished it, and I don't get the typical COD campaign that I normally get. Somewhere in between that feeling and a bad Battlefield campaign. Modern Warfare took itself too seriously and I think the experience was worse as a result. If anybody from IW ever reads this, please loosen up a bit.

I dedicate my 52 game challenge to the goodest girl in the world. I miss you so much.

This is tempting but so many of my backlog games are old RPGs that I missed.

For instance, from 2011 to 2018, I put maybe 15 hours into Radiant Historia on DS. A few weeks ago it finally grabbed me and I played another 25 hours over the past month to finally finish it.

I finished 26 games last year, though I wasn't particularly focused on playing games. Hopefully, I'll be able to reach 52, but we'll have to see.

1. Sonic Mania (4 hours)
This is an excellent example of Sonic game, just bursting with great gameplay conceits and gorgeous spritework and music.

2. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back - N. Sane Trilogy (5 hours)
I'm not gonna lie, I don't think I see why people are so in love with this series. Don't get me wrong, this is a good game, but it feels unremarkable in just about every way. Maybe it's just because I'm more used to Nintendo-style 3D platformers of the era like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, but this felt really basic to me. That's not gonna stop me from beating the other two games in the trilogy, though.

3. Warriors of Fate (1 hour)
Another solid Capcom beat 'em up that just doesn't really do it for me thematically. I do like that the one guy bites his opponents' faces, though.

4. Armored Warriors (1 hour)
Okay, this is more like it. A really cool setting, sub-weapons, and the ability to equip parts from fallen enemies make for a highly entertaining experience.

5. Battle Circuit (1 hour)
This might be the highlight of the collection. This game is bursting with character, has a decent selection of special moves to pull from, and I was surprised when I reached the end of the game sooner than I expected.

6. Onimusha: Warlords (6 hours)
Perhaps a bit dated, but it's quite fun and briskly-paced. I'm surprised that Capcom let this series disappear for so long.

7. Catherine (13 hours)
Hard as nails but fair puzzles and a thought-provoking story make for a highly addicting experience.

8. Okami (30 hours)
It's easier than Kamiya's games usually are, but it's a wonderful specimen of a game nonetheless.

9. Daytona USA (<1 hour)
Man, this really has aged well. Never played this before, nor any 90s arcade racer besides Crusin'n Exotica, but it's still a lot of fun. That soundtrack sure doesn't hurt.

10. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (19 hours)
Okay, yeah, I can see why people love this one. Great spritework, great music, a great set of characters (why does nobody ever talk about Necro? He's awesome!), and of course, that legendary gameplay. Gill is all sorts of bullshit, though.

11. Soulcalibur VI (28 hours)
Quite fun in the gameplay department, but both of the game's story modes dragged, and neither had compelling stories.

12. Bleed 2 (1 hour)
It's more of the same as with the first game - short, challenging, but forgiving. Good stuff.

13. Street Fighter (1 hour)
Me to Capcom: "YOU'VE GOT A LOT TO LEARN BEFORE YOU CAN MAKE A COMPETENT FIGHTING GAME. TRY AGAIN,KIDDO!" [sic]

14. The King of Fighters XIV (14 hours)
I assure, that it's all fourteens is a coincidence. Game itself is really fun, mediocre art style be damned. It's also quite reasonable by the standards of SNK fighters, or so I hear, with straight forward inputs and a not-terrible final boss.

15. Crash Bandicoot: Warped - N. Sane Trilogy (3 hours)
In terms of the game's quality, I feel more or less the same about this one as I did about Cortex Strikes Back. It's fine. The level themes are generally much more interesting in this game, which is a plus, but the vehicle levels are almost universally bad. One thing that I will say in this game, and its predecessor's, favor is that it does have some of the best cartoon-style animation I've ever seen in a polygon-based game.

16. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (5+ hours)
In hindsight, the boss fights go on too long in this game, but this is still an extremely high quality platformer.

17. Resident Evil - REmake (11 hours)
This game holds up impressively well, but sadly does little to change my opinion that the recent Resident Evil 2 remake needs a fixed camera option.

18. Devil May Cry (12 hours)
Beating this and the original Resident Evil back-to-back, you can really see the influence of the latter in the former. Anyway, the game is great, even if its controls are rather dated compared to more modern games following in its footsteps.

19. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (12 hours)
For what this game lacks in lead English language VAs without terrible political beliefs, it excels over the original Devil May Cry in just about every way. The combat is more varied, the characters and story are more compelling, and the punishment for death is less, well, punishing this time around.

20. Mega Man (1 hour)
This definitely feels like an unrefined version of what was to come in its sequels. The controls are loose and the level design isn't always great. Still, it's Mega Man at its most basic form.

21. Mega Man 2 (1 hour)
The only Mega Man game I've ever beaten before yesterday, and one that has really earned its place in gaming culture. Boobeam Trap aside.

22. Mega Man 3 (2 hours)
A noticeably longer and more difficult game than the first two, but honestly, it pales in comparison to Mega Man 2 for the most part.

23. Mega Man 4 (2 hours)
Is it weird that I liked this one better than Mega Man 3? Cause I liked this one better than Mega Man 3.

24. Mega Man 5 (2 hours)
Easily the weakest of the main series that I've played so far. Not that it's bad, but aside from Gravity Man's level, it's not particularly inspired in any way.

25. Mega Man 6 (2 hours)
A notable improvement over Mega Man 5, thanks to its Rush Adapters and multiple routes within levels, and a fun game to boot.

26. Mega Man 11 (3 hours)
Five, six, skip a few, eleven. All jokes aside, this is an excellent modernization of classic Mega Man. The gameplay remains rock-solid, but there are a bunch of QoL changes in here that help make the game more approachable for new players.

27. Crash Bandicoot - N. Sane Trilogy (4 hours)
Like its first two sequels, it's fine, not great. One thing I like in particular about the original game is that whereas its sequels are basically random assortments of levels, there's a clear progression in this first game. On the other hand, this is home to some pretty bad level design (looking at you, High Road).

28. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (15 hours)
This game is impossible to put down. The drama, the comedy, the mystery, the characters, the music, it's firing on all relevant cylinders.

29. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All (14 hours)
Overall a step down from the first game in terms of narrative cohesion and trial design, but the Psyche-Locke system is welcome, and the final trial is killer.

30. Nemesis (2 hours)
Gradius, or at least the US arcade version thereof, is not a very forgiving game. You need power-ups just to get by, but once you start to get them, the game ceases to pull any punches, with dozens of insta-death hazards on screen at a given time. Thankfully, I was able to save scum, and the game itself is rather forgiving with checkpoints, even on a new credit.

31. Quarantine Circular (1 hour)
Although the narrative is mostly compelling, the shifting perspectives do it more harm than good and lead to some unclear choices.

32. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations (19 hours)
It's mechanically the same as Justice for All, but this game's story is far more compelling overall. A nice cap to the original trilogy.

33. Supraland (10 hours)
The environments blend together, and combat is generally weak, but for the most part, this game does a solid job at bringing Metroidvania gameplay to 3D.

34. Life Force (<1 hour)
I found this one much more agreeable than Nemesis, although the last few stages are still some bullshit.

35. Sonic 3 & Knuckles (1 hour)
Beyond the usual goodness you can expect from Genesis-era Sonic in regards to gameplay and soundtrack, this one also makes a solid attempt at conveying a narrative.

36. Castlevania (2 hours)
They are some parts, particularly in the second half of the game, that I would struggle to call fair. However, it's still a fun game with a cool gothic horror theme.

37. Hidden Folks (3 hours)
Translating Where's Waldo to the video game medium is admirable, but I found this game to be overwhelming, to be perfectly honest.

38. Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (4 hours)
So long as you're playing with a walkthrough handy, this is a very fun version of Transylvania to explore. The easier difficulty of combat certainly helps.

39. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (23 hours)
An absolute gem of a fighting game. I don't think I need to say any more.

40. The Last Blade (8 hours)
This game is gorgeous, it offers an understated soundscape, and it plays great, emulation issues be damned. This just feels really special.

41. Splatterhouse (1 hour)
The combination of stiff controls and so many hazards, especially in later levels, hasn't really aged well. Which is a shame, because this game has a really cool aesthetic and theme going for it.

42. Team Sonic Racing (8 hours)
A quality kart racer on its own terms, but disappointing as a successor to Transformed.

43. Donkey Kong Country (4 hours)
A classic specimen of a 16-bit platforming, complemented by an art style that remains distinct to this very day.

44. SteamWorld Dig 2 (6 hours)
A worthy sequel to an already addictive first game that goes for greater ambitions and excels for it.

45. Bone: The Great Cow Race (2 hours)
It's a fun adventure game on its own merits, but it's apparent that the early Telltale formula, which this is one of the oldest examples of, wouldn't have worked well with the tone of the comic's subsequent arcs.

46. Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (3 hours)
I like this one better than the first one. The multiple playable characters give the gameplay some variety lacking in the first game.

47. Bayonetta 2 (5+ hours)
It's more Bayonetta, you know what you're getting. Art style is nicer than the first, the excising of insta-kill QTEs is appreciated, but the final boss is anticlimactic by Platinum standards.

48. Banjo-Kazooie (11 hours)
A vibrant platforming adventure with a colorful cast of characters. Some of the worlds can be quite obnoxious to play, though.

49. Contra - Famicom (1 hour)
What strikes me is how shockingly fair this game is for an NES/Famicom title. I died a lot, sure, but every death felt earned.

50. Contra - Arcade (<1 hour)
It's certainly more visually detailed than the NES/Famicom version, but the added color capabilities actually make it harder to see enemy shots at times. Additionally, it's shorter and feels harder to control (although, granted, I used an arcade stick for this version).

51. Garou: Mark of the Wolves (4 hours)
This is just a really fun SNK fighter. The characters are great, the T.O.P. mechanic is great, the spritework and music are great, the PC port... not so great.

52. missed messages. (<1 hour)
A short, sweet game about empathy and support.

53. Battletoads - NES (2 hours)
The game's reputation for difficult levels and poor design is earned, but the core gameplay is fun, and there's a lot of variety for an NES beat 'em up.

54. Life is Strange: Before the Storm (9 hours)
It may not be as fantastic, in the fanciful sense, as the first game, but it still charts a compelling story of human drama.

55. one night, hot springs (<1 hour)
No, this isn't some fanservice game, this is a short and cute little visual novel about the Japanese trans experience. It offers a branching storyline and insight into the state of LGBTQ+ affairs in Japan and, to a lesser extent, the rest of the world.

56. Athena (2 hours)
It's got a fun core, but it's very, very dated. The jumping mechanics are baffling, there's no mercy invincibility, and it's very easy to miss certain items that are required for progression, ending playthroughs early.

57. Ikari Warriors (<1 hour)
It definitely controls stiff, and I noticed some bugs, but this is a fun twin stick romp.

58. TNK III (1 hour)
The gameplay seems like it would be more fun than Ikari Warriors, but it's way too easy to die, with your healthbar often falling down to zero in seconds. I also noticed some similarly glitchy controls to Ikari.

59. Flower (1 hour)
A serene little art game with a gorgeous art style and soundtrack.

60. The Last Blade 2 (10 hours)
It's a damn shame they never made a third one of these. These are some really lovely fighting games. I can only hope Akari somehow pops up in KOF XV.

61. Super Contra (<1 hour)
I didn't enjoy it as much as either version of the original game, but it stands on its own very well.

62. ARMS (10+ hours)
This is a very fun fighting game with lots of character, but it's so fundamentally different from the rest of the genre that I had trouble sometimes figuring out how to approach fights.

63. The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match (8 hours)
This game holds up exquisitely. It's just a really satisfying game to play.

64. Super C (1 hour)
The NES version of Super Contra is as fun an affair and arguably more so than its arcade counterpart, and it offers new stages and even a new final boss not seen in the latter.

65. Dead or Alive 5: Last Round (12 hours)
This is a damn fun game, but I would be here all day if you asked me what I didn't like about it.

66. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (4 hours)
Not flashy, but still really fun and really beautiful, though the characters are on the wrong side of the uncanny valley.

67. Dragon Ball FighterZ (19 hours)
I had a lot of fun with this game for how little I care about the source material, but it suffers from samey-feeling characters and a dragged-out story (from Dragon Ball? Never!).

68. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (10+ hours)
Not an especially deep game, but quite satisfying to play, to say nothing of the fanservice inherent to the premise.

69. Virtua Racing (<1 hour)
Not as flashy as its younger sibling Daytona, but it's a fun enough arcade racer.

70. Star Fox (1 hour)
Definitely dated in multiple respects, but it's surprisingly fun all things considered.

71. Return of the Obra Dinn (7 hours)
This game is just a really compelling period mystery story.

72. The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (1 hour)
A small but compelling slice of a new side of the Life is Strange universe.

73. Psycho Soldier (<1 hour)
This is a much more agreeable title than its predecessor Athena. No secret items required to beat the last boss in this game!

74. Operation C (1 hour)
The controls here can be stiff at times, and a few bosses are a bit too claustrophobic, but this is otherwise a faithful adaptation of the classic Contra gameplay to an early portable system.

75. Groove Coaster (2 hours)
A fun and visually unique arcade rhythm game with some clarity problems.

76. Castlevania: The Adventure (1 hour)
This game attempts to do what Operation C generally succeeded at, but it's let down massively by poor controls and level design that neglects to account for that.

77. Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road - Arcade (2 hours)
Between the player character's slow movement, the fast and dense enemy projectiles, and bosses that take the concept of the "damage sponge" to insane heights, this is easily one of the worst games I've ever played.

78. Guacamelee 2 (8 hours)
Guacamelee was already a fun game, and the sequel is largely more of the same. I will say there is something refreshing about being able to play as X'tabay, though.

79. The Miskatonic (2 hours)
A really awkwardly put-together game, but charming, funny, and with some solid horror.

80. Contra III: The Alien Wars (2 hours)
Contra III, having more buttons and more power to work with than its predecessors, brings some fun new tricks to the table.

81. The Room (2 hours)
A neat little puzzle game with a nice physicality to its gameplay and cosmic horror elements.

82. Mortal Kombat 11 (26 hours)
This is Mortal Kombat. You know the drill, wonky animation, awkward gameplay, tons of unlockables, and some of the best single-player content in the genre.

83. Faerie Solitaire Harvest (15 hours)
Good ol' solitaire.

84. Streets of Rage (1 hour)
I'm not so sure about how it has aged, but I had a good time with it.

85. Close Your Eyes (1 hour)
A nice, creepy little horror story, though some of the puzzles are a bit too obscure for my liking.

86. Super Castlevania IV (4 hours)
This one is noticeably easier than 1 and Dracula's Curse, and I'm all for it. The presentation is also top-notch, taking advantage of the 16-bit hardware to make Dracula's castle feel lived-in.

87. The Lion King (1 hour)
The Lion King video game is a gorgeous translation of the movie's art and animation style to a 16-bit presentation. However, it's wonky to play, with questionable hit detection and some attacks with unclear purposes.

88. Zoo Tycoon - 2013 (3 hours)
The way I play tycoon games is that the game is "beaten" when I've gotten to a point where I feel like I've done all I want to do with my main park. It speaks volumes about how dull Zoo Tycoon 2013 is that I reached that point after only 3 hours.

89. Aladdin - The Final Cut (1 hour)
Honestly a better game than The Lion King, and I grew up owning a Lion King SNES cartridge.

90. Yoku's Island Express (5 hours)
As it turns out, Metroidvania and pinball make a combination that's hard to put down.

91. Simulacra (3 hours)
A compelling horror story about deceit.

92. Prehistoric Isle in 1930 (<1 hour)
One of the more enjoyable sh'mups I've played, thanks to its novel setting and relatively agreeable difficulty.

93. Street Smart (<1 hour)
Not a very deep game (it's an 80s fighting game, after all), but it's got its charm as a mindless brawler.

94. Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (1 hour)
A massive improvement over Castlevania: The Adventure.

95. Kid Dracula - Famicom (1 hour)
This is very much a Mega Man knock-off, but it's fun enough, and it has a few tricks and surprises to help it stand out.

96. Castlevania: Bloodlines (2 hours)
A more traditional take on Castlevania than IV, but it's got a few tricks of its own.

97. A Hat in Time (6 hours)
Charming as heck and bursting with creativity.

98. Full Throttle (3 hours)
Not LucasArts' finest hour, but a damn fine adventure game all the same.

99. Fantasy (<1 hour)
A very, very short game that still gives you multiple different styles of gameplay during that brief time. None of them are particularly deep, but it's a charming enough experience for its length, random racist tribal enemies aside.

100. Kirby: Planet Robobot (5 hours)
More or less what you can expect to Kirby, but with a new mech mechanic that does a very, very good job at breaking up the series' traditional gameplay.

101. Halo: Reach (6 hours)
A lot of the enemy types seemed like bullshit, and some of the weapons felt of dubious practicality to me, but I found this to be quite enjoyable. Hopefully the numbered entries are even better.

102. Contra: Hard Corps (2 hours)
Not the fairest entry in the series, with some unclear hitboxes, but it's still a damn fun game.

103. Katamari Damacy (4 hours)
A simple, absurd, and extremely satisfying conceit.

104. Heaven's Vault (17 hours)
A very addictive language-deciphering system serves as the driving force of what turned out to be a very compelling sci-fi mystery.

105. Space Harrier (<1 hour)
As it turns out, the progenitor of rail shooters such as Sin & Punishment is no less difficult than the games it would inspire. Fun as hell, though.

106. Sonic the Hedgehog (1 hour)
Mechanic design, level design, art direction. Yep, in comparison to its immediate sequels, the original pales in all.

107. Horizon Chase Turbo (12 hours)
A really fun throwback to classic arcade racers like OutRun.

108. Mighty Switch Force 2 (2 hours)
A fun spin on the original Mighty Switch Force.

109. Mighty Switch Force Academy (2 hours)
A solid return to the original's gameplay, but with a few new tricks.

110. A Short Hike (<1 hour)
A cute platformer with Animal Crossing vibes.

#2: Noitu Love 2: Devolution (1-2-2018) | 8/10 | PC| ~ 2 Hours | Recommend: Y
# Overall -8 | A great quick action game with fantastic boss fights
Gameplay -8.8 | Controls are simple, graphics are outstanding and the bosses like other Konjak games are superb
Sound - 8 | Some great tracks roll you throughout the game
Story/Online - 8 | Its told quickly through text, but the level design fills you in on other aspects
Asking Price- 7.67 | An enjoyable experience but one that will not have as much lasting power besides the boss fights

FYI - The creator of this game released Iconoclasts last year on all the major devices besides Xbox 1. Its in my top 10 games of all time and I highly recommend for those looking for a 2D platforming adventure with an actual story. Bosses, graphics and animations are also top notch!

I have to say I loved this game, so many times I wanted to quit but I kept on trucking and I got to the top of the mountain. And a surprisingly good story, I am happy I finished this before Game of The Year has to be put in this will make the list.

Game Boy: 1
Nintendo Wii: 3
PC: 1

Games Beaten:
1. Away: Journey to the Unexpected (PS4) - 4/10 - February 11
Game started out promising but soon falls to pieces. I genuinely can't believe the developers thought completely railroading you in a roguelike would be a good idea and make for an enjoyable game.

2. Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4) - 9.5/10 - February 11
Superb game, and if they removed the annoying Mary Jane stealth sections that were extremely tedious it would be almost perfect. It's just missing that little extra something to make it my GOTY over God of War.

3. Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu (NS) - 7/10 - March 4
A fun romp through Kanto, but I have major gripes with it. Not being able to battle wild Pokémon is fucking lame and this is the easiest Pokémon game to date. However, there are some great features that I loved, like the legendary Pokémon battles.

4. Spyro - The Reignited Trilogy: Spyro The Dragon (PS4) - 6.5/10 - March 13
The platforming here is fun, but this is a pretty barebones game. If you don't actively try and 100% complete everything there is to do in each level this would be a 3-hour game. Spyro's personality is so white bread here, and, in general, there's just a bland feeling reverberating throughout the whole game. Not a bad game, but certainly not a great one.

5. Spyro - The Reignited Trilogy: Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! (PS4) - 6.5/10 - March 30
This is definitely an improvement over the first Spyro game, but it still isn't amazing. There are way too many janky and frustrating elements here. This is the Spyro game I remember most fondly from my childhood, but even nostalgia couldn't make it much more enjoyable.

6. Spyro - The Reignited Trilogy: Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon (PS4) - 5.5/10 - April 14
God, I really wish I'd never went back and played these games. They were so much better in my nostalgic mind. Spyro 3 is literally just a re-skin of Ripto's Rage with god awful mini-games and side characters added in. these are the only additions to the gameplay and they are god awful. At least I now can confirm that Crash Bandicoot was the far superior platformer series on the PS1.

7. Unravel Two (PS4) - 8/10 - April 21
Such a charming game. Beautiful in every single way, but the stunning score really stands out. Introduces enough new mechanics to make it a genuine sequel, and the platforming has been refined to the point where it's actually a joy now.

8. Yoshi's Crafted World (NS) - 8/10 - May 9
This game is just absolutely bursting with joy and life. From start to finish I was blown away by the creative and innovative level design, and so many times I was impressed that they were able to continue adding neat new wrinkles to the gameplay. My only major negatives are that the Poochy "flip side" levels aren't all that fun, and the game overstays its welcome a little bit. Knock maybe 2 hours worth of gameplay off it and you damn near have a 10/10. I'm genuinely baffled that this game wasn't well-received upon release.

9. Trials: Rising (PS4) - 6/10 - June 17
This is a masterclass in ruining a perfectly good game. What is with the insane difficulty spikes here? I'll beat 99% of the tracks, and even some of the harder ones available, but when it comes to the tracks required to beat the single-player campaign there are just challenges that are way too fucking hard. You know you've fucked up when seasoned veterans of the series are asking for track times to be patched. It's a damn shame because I was having a blast with this.

10. Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy: Scam of the Century (NDS) - 2/10
June 19 - This might be the worst game that I have ever played, in terms of games that weren't just a completely broken or glitch-filled mess. It's a masterclass in what not to do when it comes to game design. There are only two redeeming qualities; the character animations and the soundtrack perfectly capture the essence of the show.

11. Code Lyoko: Get Ready to Virtualize (NDS) - 1/10 - July 3
This game is god awful. Zero redeeming qualities.

12. Ben 10: Protector of Earth (PS2) - 6.5/10 - July 13
This is a very enjoyable beat 'em up. Disappointing that all of Ben's aliens aren't here and the final battle with Vilgax is absolutely the worst thing in the entire game.

13. Johnny Bravo in The Hukka Mega Mighty Ultra Date-O-Rama (PS2) - 2/10 - July 28
Johnny Bravo dating sim. The background of this game is so bizarre and the end product is equally strange. There's actually a lot of really funny writing here, just not enough of it, and the actual mini-games themselves are all terrible.

14. Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends: Imagination Invaders (NDS) - 3/10 - August 20
This is a dull, yet fundamentally sound game. 90% of the time is just spent doing fetch quests, however, this would be a good introductory point for young kids. Unfortunately, the final boss battle would probably prove impossible for that crowd.

15. Days Gone (PS4) - 5/10 - August 30
What a fucking let down. Bend tries desperately to tell a gripping narrative, but it is so fucking dull and boring. Why does this game have over SIX HOURS OF CUTSCENES? The game is so bloated and just keeps dragging on like a zombie. The gameplay is generic, except for the hordes, which are barely even featured in the game until the last few hours. The game honestly feels like a bad cover version od Red Dead Redemption, just set in a post-apocalyptic world. It even has a "going to Mexico" scene where you travel to a brand new area of the world, complete with sombre song playing. This is how poor the game is and I haven't even touched on how fucking poorly it runs. This is honestly the worst Sony first-party game I have ever played.

16. Pokemon Blue (GB) - 6/10 - September 14
The game that started it all. Looking at it through 2019 standards it is extremely flawed. It pretty much doesn't hold up to any of the entries that come after it, but the fact that it pioneered so much is still breathtaking. Despite being insanely broken it's still a pretty fun romp.

17. Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law (Wii) - 6/10 - September 22
This is a solid parody of the Ace Attorney series. The idea works really well with the Harvey Birdman license and the writing is really damn good here like in the Aqua Teen game. I'm not a huge fan of this style of gameplay, which is the major reason this game gets more of a middling score.

18. Jump Force (PS4) - 4/10 - September 28
Just absolutely awful. For starters, it's just an all-round poor fighting game. There is absolutely no strategy involved here and you'll basically win every fight with your eyes closed by just mashing buttons and spamming your special moves. Secondly, how the fuck did they mess up the story mode. Creating a fun cross over between Shonen Jump franchises should be a breeze, but for some stupid reason, they make you play as some dumb self-insert character. Why couldn't you just let us play as the characters we know and love? The worst part is that every now and then you do get to play as those Jump characters, but when you do you're so unfamiliar with how they play that it actually becomes frustrating and annoying. Lastly, there is quite literally zero variation in the gameplay. Doing the exact same matches over and over again for 10+ hours is dreadful.

19. Code Lyoko: Fall of X.A.N.A. (NDS) - 2/10 - October 5
Awful. This is honestly the dullest and most boring game I have ever played. Glad I'm completely finished with all of the Code Lyoko games now.

20. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fuelled (PS4) - 8/10 - October 14
This was a great return to the past. For a long time, I strongly believed Crash Team Racing was the best kart racer of all time, and I honestly think this remake is a genuine contender for that crown. I think my biggest issue with the game is that there is too much going on at times to the point where it's overwhelming. Whether it's the weird Fornite style battle pass or the fact that you're bombarded with a million different bits of info upon booting up the game. I was overwhelmed when they presented me with a million different cart optimization options, and it got to the point where I just picked one of the throwback carts purely because you couldn't customise it. Similarly, I picked the classic version of the Adventure Mode, which apparently means I missed out on all of the PS2-era content? If Beenox had tidied all of those aspects up this would currently sit as my GOTY. Also, the boss races still suck. Nothing about those are enjoyable.

21. Ben 10: Alien Force (PS2) - 5.5/10 - October 18
In some ways, this is an improvement on Protector of Earth, but in many ways, it's worse. The combat feels a lot more fluid, but so many of the fundamental issues of the first game are still present, while a whole host of new issues are brought along. The platforming is awful, there is one of the worst boss battles ever, and all of the Kevin Levin sections are tedious.

22. Blair Witch (PC) - 5.5/10 - October 29
Had a few promising signs, but for the most part this comes off as a poor man's P.T. or Resident Evil 7. It's quite clearly taken massive inspiration from those two games, yet doesn't come close to hitting those high notes. The spookiest moments actually occur when nothing's happening. When you actually encounter the game's monsters you'll just be frustrated. Fighting them off with the flashlight is cumbersome and just annoying because locating them means you just have to spin around in circles constantly. The stealth sections, on the other hand, are just dull. They are ridiculously easy, yet if you fuck up even slightly you die instantly. To top it all off, the narrative falls flat. The story's twists are incredibly obvious, to the point where I'm pretty sure I had mapped out the entire narrative in my hand before even reaching the halfway point. The ending is also a massive slap in the face. If you're going to tease that the player will have to make tough choices that will affect the narrative, you should probably make those changes actually matter.

23. The Secret Saturdays: Beasts of the 5th Sun (PS2) - 4/10
Absolutely terrible. The only redeeming quality is that traversal with the grappling hook is kinda fun.

24. Pokémon Sword (NS) - 9/10 - November 25
What a return to form for the Pokémon series! I honestly haven't enjoyed a Pokémon game since Black & White. It's not perfect, but GameFreak managed to recapture that magic and I think that is far more important. My biggest gripe is that yet again the games are too easy. I quite literally didn't lose a single battle and only came slightly close in the final fight. I also think the Wild Are being dumped on you all at once so early in the game is an issue. Not only is it overwhelming, but because you want to explore this new feature you end up doing too many raids and over levelling yourself. The story also could have used a few tweaks towards the back half

25. Ben 10: Alien Force - Vilgax Attacks (Wii) - December 5 - 5/10
I have such a love/hate relationship with this game. On one hand, Papaya Studio made some great changes. It's a major step up in the graphics department, and overall the combat feels so much smoother. However, the game is just so damn janky and focuses way too much on puzzle solving, when the real hook of the game is the alien combat.

26. Ben 10: Alien Force - The Rise of Hex (Wii) - December 18 - 4/10
This is easily my least favourite Ben 10 game so far. This one completely switches up the formula, opting for a 2D sidescroller focused more on puzzle solving, rather than the past three 3D beat 'em ups. While it's not necessarily a bad idea, I think the execution is off. The decreased focus on combat means all of the aliens feel identical to play as and a lot of the puzzle-solving is monotonous rather than being tricky or clever. The three boss battles are also staggeringly bad, which I can only assume is due to the overall combat being a clear afterthought in the design process here.

27. Star Wars - Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4) - December 22 - 9/10
As a major Star Wars nerd, I was always going to enjoy this, but I'm happy to say that this is fantastic even when judged purely as a game. I was initially very apprehensive of the Soulsbourne direction they took the game in, and while I can't say I'm ever going to play a FromSoftware game, I didn't completely hate it. I never quite felt like I mastered combat and it was extremely frustrating feeling outmatched against all but the lowliest enemies. What I did love was the Metroidvania style exploration. I'm not usually a fan of this style but t just works so well here. Maybe it's because it's Star Wars, but I was so keen to explore every path on each planet. I also greatly enjoyed the story, but my biggest issue was that they introduced the woman from Dathomir way too late in the game and didn't give you enough time to bond with this cool character. I also think they have to kill off Cere and Cal at some point. I get that it's literally impossible for The Empire to purge every Jedi, but the current canon now has Obi-Wan, Yoda, Ezra, Ahsoka, Cere, and Cal all running around as notable Jedi during the OT era.

Rules:
  • A beaten game is ideally to completion, Platinum Trophy/100% on PS4 Pro and 100% on Xbox One X, or dropped due to lack of enjoyment. However, some games may not be dependant upon the time investment needed for 100%.
  • Try to complete a variety of games across all platforms.
  • Main Game to count as 1, and all DLC to count as another 1. Same from a purchasing point of view.
  • Try to prioritise games that have sequels on the horizon, or are relatively new releases.

Have no trust in myself to actually get to 52 games, but my backlog stands at 70 games (though most of that is PS+), so I really need to whittle it down. Might as well give this a crack.

Jan 20th Edit: Feeling pretty good so far about my progress. Already gotten through 4 (albeit shorter) games. Now to finish off the RDR2 epilogue and move on to the behemoth of BotW.

Feb 18th Edit: I abandoned BotW for the moment. Can't seem to get in the groove with that game after the first couple hours were sublime. I'm currently making my way through Divinity Original Sin 2 and wooooo boy does that game have CONTENT

Currently Playing:
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (and I will be for a long time)
  • DMC HD Collection
  • Whatever trips my fancy
  1. Marvel's Spider-Man: The City that Never Sleeps DLC (PS4) | 1/4/19 - 8hrs | 5/10
  2. Burly Men at Sea (PS4) | 1/6/19 - 1hr | 5/10
  3. Bayonetta (Switch) | 1/15/19 - 10hr | 6/10
  4. The Order: 1886 (PS4) | 1/20/19 - 9hr | 6/10
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4) | 1/21/19 - 52hr | 9/10
  6. God of War (PS4) | 2/4/19 - 28hr | 9/10
  7. Tacoma (PS4) | 3/1/19 - 4.5hr | 8/10
  8. Civilization VI (Switch) | 3/6/19 - 52hr | 7/10
  9. Divinity Original Sin II (PS4) | 4/1/19 - 70hr | 9/10

Reserved.

I did pretty well in 2018 with 42 games completed, but I'm anticipating 2019 will be much lower with me trying to focus on longer games that I've been putting off - Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid V, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Persona 5, etc. So it may be more like a 12 in 12 for me this year, heh.

I did the same Finished 42 games and when I look at my 2019 goal it's the big open world games that are going to eat up my time too mostly 2016-2017 sunset overdrive/Witcher 3/AC Odyssey/Spiderman/shadow of the tomb raider
So good luck

Thanks! And good luck to you as well.

The only way I can manage to do it is to sprinkle a few shorter games (15 hours or usually less) in between the biggies. So I'm playing SteamWorld: Heist right now and probably a couple more before I tackle...well, I started to say The Witcher 3, but I guess Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the first long-ish game I start up this year.
