Ken Starr, the former president of Baylor University who earned nationwide notoriety as the independent counsel who headed the investigation that led to the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, died Tuesday after a lengthy illness.

Starr, who served as Baylor president from June 2010 to May 2016, was 76.

He actually didn't. He was appointed in 1994, and spent most of his time going through the laundry list of right wing grievances about the Clintons - Whitewater, Vince Foster, "Travelgate", etc.... It was only in late 97 that he got onto Lewinsky, and then lucked out Bill managed to perjure himself about it in the Paula Jones lawsuit.

I know he wasn't originally appointed to investigate that but the upshot of the Starr Report was the Lewinsky scandal and the subsequent impeachment

Ken Starr sucked, and the agenda behind he and the Republicans actions absolutely sucked, but Clinton 100% deserved to be investigated/impeached for having sex with a White House intern. You're right though in that the way it was ultimately handled turned out to be a wasted of time and politicized and issue that shouldn't have been politicized at all.

Starr was mainly interested in if Bill had committed "actual" crimes like perjury or influencing Lewinsky's testimony, the actual affair was never the center point of his investigation. He also wasn't particularly interested in the earlier accusations against Clinton from women from his time in Arkansas politics.

I remember when the starr report was released, and some stores had these little copies of it in the impulse purchase section of checkout lines.

He could have done almost anything else with his life and it would have been more worthwhile. What a waste of existence.
