The only band from that list that I've heard is Dilly Dally and they're great. Marijuana is an awesome track.

I love Speedy Ortiz, seen em live a few times and they have one of my fav debuts in recent memory. There's another record that came out on friday by a band called beabadoobee which I can't tell if I like (im leaning into it being just alright) but is so 90's alt rock it feels a bit too intentional...like it's an industry plant.

Wow, all the songs I've checked out in this thread are awesome. Will be further checking out all bands.

Most of the songs in the OP weren't my jam, but holy crap, Potty Mouth are great! Totally adding them to my list.

My contribution is Donora... They're more indie rock than straight-up '90's, but their first record is SOOOO good and totally reminds me of the stuff I listened to as a teenager:

What does this mean lol. I mean I don't think "industry plants" really exist--it usually just means "a newly-signed artist has received a large marketing push from their label, and this is suspicious to people for some reason"--but I'm really not clear on how making an album playing with the sounds of '90s pop rock = plant.

Reason why I used it on that band is because while the song is fine...the 4:3 aspect of the video in 2020 with everyone looking like they walked out of a 1993 time machine just seemed a bit try to hard even though the song is perfectly solid. I fully admit it's snobbery on my part.

That said, there are industry plants even though it's usually an unfair term of derision. Often you get artists who's music is basically made by committee down to songwriting camps they have no part of. It's not anything new, but since selling authenticity is a part of the package nowadays its interesting seeing it's current forms. But in this case it was me strictly being a dick about that particular video; it just seemed try to hard in a post where other bands just seemed to be doing themselves. And maybe this IS them doing themselves. *shrug*

I know this thread is basically dead but I forgot this one and really wanted to add it.
Adventures, which is a side project of most of the members of, are you ready, Code Orange, where they write 90s alternative songs instead of hardcore.

If you don't know them, check out Kill Holiday, members of Unbroken doing britpop. Their record on Rev is great, I put the punkier single 'Meant to let you Down' on every Mixtape for years.

Damn good thread, OP! I listened to ALL of the tracks posted and I like, well, all of them lol. What a gold mine. Added them to my playlist :)

Kind of an obvious choice, but Title Fight and Turnover have put out some VERY 90's grungy/post sounding alternative rock albums in the last few years:

One of my favs from last year...just an absolutely awesome album. Most of the stuff so far in the thread seems to be the more droney/shoegazy side of the 90's. This one is firmly in the pissed off/Toadies/gritty realm.

Glad this thread resurfaced, didn't know of a lot of these. It's cool that these days if you can think of a classic sound you can probably find someone bringing it back if you do some digging.

Skating Polly definitely sound 90s to me:

i posted this ironically in the 90s alt music thread that spawned this one, but there's something very Stupid Girl-esque about this baseline ya?
