The original scope of what was in the Kickstarter wasn't realistic for a single artist to do. He was able to get a lot of things running, but you need a specialist for a lot of things, like online--which the game will now have :)

also, about La-Mulana

2. The La-Mulana team didn't listen to us about removing the DLC, they refused. We cancelled the game. They eventually released it without DLC.

I played this on the show floor at Anime Expo this year.
Absolute garbage. It's not even a racing game anymore. Your final position is determined by points you get for drifting.
The AI is laughable. They drive seemingly random racing lines all over the track with no real direction.
The person demoing it on the show floor didn't seem very proud and was actively avoiding answering questions.

Oh huh I had heard that it was at Anime Expo but wasn't actually sure. Sad to hear the game is like that though.

Awesome.

Can we PLEASE get some new footage then?

But, more importantly, how about sharing some info about the gameplay? I'm hoping for gear-based drifting a la Daytona, but we still have no idea how the gameplay works in this game.

Even better, SEGA straight-up put out another Daytona USA arcade cabinet in the time since this Kickstarter. This project was one of those "the company will never do it, so I will" Kickstarters and it got beat to the punch by SEGA of all companies.

Jesus. I'd given up hope on this ever releasing years ago, but this might be an even worse fate.

It was even free on PC too lol

That anime expo impression don't do this game any favor. I probably will forget it and install that Model 3 emulator that I think got a new UI?

Didn't Matt say on a Super Best Friends podcast (before they disbanded) that the original developer, Pelikan13, was trying to buy back the rights to this game so he could finish it? (and Tyrone was trying to prevent that)

If that was true, and he was trying to do that, Tyrone's claims about it being "too much for one person to handle" don't exactly hold water, do they? I mean, Pelikan's made almost an entire separate game in the time it's taken Tyrone just to say ANYTHING about the game's status

I wouldn't trust Tyrone any further than I can throw him and folks, let me tell you, I am a weakling

the HELP Menu.
So to give context to these answers I think it's a good idea to post the related tweets that started it:

Now, despite hating Nicalis with a passion for what they did to Pixel (maker of cavestory) and being absolutly LIVID with the bullshit damage control Tyrone is trying with the freaking nonsense response in the OP (of course you're still friends with the guy you cheated the IP of their game from when they didn't fully understand English you fucking monster), I've kept an eye on Save Me, Mister Tako, since it seemed like a cute game with a nice aesthetic

Basically, Save Me Mr.Tako already had a patch finished and ready to go that fixes a lot of issues people had been complaining about, and apparently for quite a while too!

but of course, Nicalis is neglecting to update it.

Do you honestly believe what Nicalis is saying about the other games, when THIS type of shit keeps happening, CONSTANTLY??

I sincerely feel for the Tako devs. All that work patching their game for their players, wasted and ignored by Tyrone, for God knows what.

Absolutely Disgusting.

That response and Tryone's treatment of Nigoro is fucking disgraceful. Indie devs need to just stay away.

I'd still enjoy a traditional arcade racer with feel-good gameplay and music, but regardless of this update I don't have high hopes in this being released anytime soon. :/

Drift Stage is suffers from regular delays and now some major development issues too. And I have no idea what's going on with Racing Apex. I hope it's not a cursed genre, we really need some new entries into the genre.

Saying that, I do think that these games' scopes growing heavily during development. I wonder if it would have been better to get something smaller / tighter out first (maybe akin to Sega Rally 1 or Ridge Racer + Ridge Racer Revolution) and then focus on a bigger sequel or a long tail of DLC. The DLC can introduce leagues, customisation, alt modes, vehicle tiers, more tracks, etc.

Wait he finished it?

I assumed he was juggling this and the Take Over.

He finished working on it a long time ago, but who knows what that actually means. He's clearly not allowed to talk about what happened and why he's not involved.

Nicalis is directly to blame for any blowout this game incurred--the rumors and implications around this game suggest that Nicalis requested the developer add certain features and then browbeat him into handing over control of the game when those features weren't completed to Nicalis' satisfaction, but even that happened a long time ago so I have no idea what's taking them so long aside from the fact that Nicalis takes forever to do anything. (It also sounds like they've majorly fucked with the game they were given, if the above description is accurate.)

For those who aren't aware, this was originally a crowdfunded game and Nicalis got involved after it had been funded.

Problem with drift stage is that the coder apparently just said fuck it and disappeared leaving the artist alone with an unfinished product. I don't know how things are going now if the artist was able to continue development with somebody else but last I heard he was trying to contact the coder but kept being ignored by him.

My understanding is that DelkoDuck has given up on the matter. Earlier this year he made a big concerted effort to get the guy's attention and when it failed he seemed pretty defeated about the whole thing. Sounded like he was moving on.

Trying to find those tweets where he was talking about it, they've all been deleted, so who knows what actually happened or will really happen (and his twitter account is currently private anyway, so maybe digging too deep isn't the smartest idea). But I don't think DelkoDuck is to blame at all.

That's what I think as well. 90's Arcade Racer should be a three circuit arcade racer, with time attack and mirror mode, two cars, two transmission and that's it.

is there a TLDR place for all of Nicalis shenanigans? I've heard of so many that I wasn't aware of- in this thread alone.

I know this has been said before, but I find it hard to believe Tyrone and Pixel are still friends considering he used a different publisher for his follow up game, which just so happened to be about a tireless worker who is constantly overworked and harassed by his boss who doesn't speak the same language as him.
